2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

Primary day in Minnesota

I’m seeing the most organized push from republicans that I’ve seen in years. To vote for Omar’s primary opponent.

her margin has gotten smaller, still can’t see her losing tonight

It's not that simple though. Contesting only works if Harris doesn't cross the threshold or states that pushed her over refuse to certify. If enough states certify it doesn't matter what the Red Nimrods do.

For example she likely won't need GA to declare anything if she wins the states with Blue people making decisions. Whitmer, Shapiro and Evers aren't going to refuse to certify if Harris wins and neither will Hobbs. Some states need the SOS to do it so that will depend who is in charge I guess.

So the key is, what states are an actual threat? Not just because one or two counties refuse but because the infrastructure is in place to hold it out long enough. How many of those states will Harris win and can she get to 270 without them? I admit I'm no election expert but the vast majority of states she will win (in theory) are not going to cause such an issue especially the big ones. We just need to know each states rules.

That doesn't mean they shouldn't fight...absolutely keep having Elias' group and people in the White House having plans in place. But I don't think the coup has much of a chance to work unless she loses some former Biden states.

All I know is this is the most motivated I've been since 2008, and since 2016 I've voted in every election down to dogcatcher. I would consider volunteering for her campaign, but as you can likely ascertain from my posts here, I don't suffer fools gladly, so I am a poor choice to be knocking on doors or making phone calls. I have, however, definitely done my part in terms of donating.

Interesting- I’d think it would be to the advantage of the republicans (at least at the national level) to have Omar in office. Sort of how it helps democrats nationally to have Marjorie Taylor Green in office.

Her primary opponent is black, so there would still be plenty for them to hate.

Yeah like I said...this all sounds fishy as heck.

As I said on Threads...Jesse Ventura goes after stolen valor like a hawk. He endorsed Harris-Walz and he doesn't usually endorse.

I watched an msnbc clip on YouTube where they interviewed Ventura a few days ago. He mentioned that Walz reached out to him for advice after being elected, and it struck Ventura as a classy thing, Walz’s willingness to reach out to for advice regardless of political parties, and that’s why he’s endorsing Harris-Walz. Ventura doesn’t much like the current 2-party system, and the schism it creates. He’s not the most prestigious endorsement, but he’s worth something with the middles who don’t vote, which is how he won back in 98 (stated for the non-Minnesotans, not you).

My mother in law is from Nebraska, (so is my wife technically) and she has a cousin that graduated with Walz in that graduating class of about 25 or so. Evidently the Washington Post is calling these people to ask what they thought of him. I guess they sounded pretty disappointed when she answered “He was a pretty normal, nice guy.” She also told them that if they get negative responses it is only because of the position he’s in now. No one had a problem with him.

The media can't handle that he isn't as hateable as Vance...

If you can get (essentially) everyone who voted for Biden in 2020 to vote for Harris in 2024 then you can win. Not by amazing margins, but if we're wishing for that then let me wish for a pony too. Adding that since 2020 older voters who tend to vote for Trump have died and younger voters who tend to vote for Harris can now vote, and that pushes the 2020 results even further to the win column. 2020 Biden isn't running this time, so we need to recreate his advantages in the aggregate, like in Moneyball. Having Trump be the opponent, turning off some swing voters and motivating people on the left helps; Walz and his midwestern and union appeal helps; we'll have to see if it all does so enough.

Newsmax: Gen Z is energized like never before with young voters flocking to Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. More than 230,000 voters have registered to vote in the past 3 weeks, of which 81% were between 18 and 34 years old. You’re seeing a lot of movement to Harris-Walz right now
