I think he was dead meat regardless. Won by 3 in 2018 in most Democratic environment in the last 15 years. With Trump on the ticket he probably loses by 10.

Yeah I think he was toast.

he went out on a high note- throwing millions more children into poverty. Doing his best to spread the West Virginia shithole experience to as many as he can
 
Let's be real, he would run again if he thought he could win and be a powerful swing vote in a narrow D Senate. So his internal polling must not have been encouraging. He's also going to be 77 next year, and I'm sure he doesn't want to fade away like Turtle Boy.

He's been useful at times and a dick at times, but it's time to let it go and focus on wins we know Dems can accomplish, in states that are economically relevant in the 21st century.

The best thing I've seen so far was someone posting stories about how states are putting abortion on the ballot in 2024.

Manchin was a pain in the DNC's backside, but considering his replacement is yet another gross MAGA chud, I think we're going to miss that vote.

The former I understand. One third of this country are rural Christians and a bunch of them have to be in Maine. The latter, without also being the former, I don't understand at all.

The only thing in that article I will quibble with, and it is semantics, is I don't think telling the truth about what would happen if the GOP won is going negative. Going negative is when they accuse candidates of hating cops or not supporting the troops based on nothing. Going negative is when you dig up dirt on someone and use it to cloud the issues. Saying the Virginia GOP with full control will ban abortions (whether after 15 weeks or whatever) is just saying exactly what they have admitted they will do. Calling a spade a spade is not negative.

But yes the Dems need to be out front making sure everyone knows the score. The GOP made it easy...they literally just put a hardcore anti abortion guy in the #3 spot in the Presidential Pecking order! (who is an election denier...another issue the GOP cant afford be front and center) If the Dems want to continue the momentum (and continue to befuddle know nothings on TV) they need to paint the GOP for what they are...Anti Democratic Misogynistic weasels that want to control every choice you make.

We will miss the vote, but this and the incipient defenestration of the Arizona Trash Bag means the Dems can concentrate on a more left agenda without the distraction of vipers in their midst. This is a slimmed down version of the Dixie Racist Defection. And in this case, we likely only lose one seat instead of 20, because the AZ GOP is a dumpster fire.

Don't forget that they are playing into Xi's hands by hamstringing the military, and siding with Putin's aggression. By all rights, we ought to sweep the foreign policy and safety debate.

Our IC pundits should also be out there screaming that playing chicken with shutdowns is making us more vulnerable to terrorism.
