I had to turn off msnbc this afternoon as all they talked about was Biden polls.

r/conservative is now lamenting that desantis screwed himself for 2028 by signing the six week ban

He is going to need some late night retail therapy to get over this! If I owned a boot company I'm emailing him special price codes!

Which is why he is a great candidate to run against a huge partisan lean. But you don't do the GOP's work for them by meeting their cray halfway when you don't need to. Elections are about winning but also about field position. Beshear is 35% Dem so you run him in a 66% red state and he beats the guy who is 75% red. But you don't run him in a country that is 50/50, because that is giving up before you start. That was the Great Clintonian Triangulation disaster. It benefitted Clinton, but nobody else.

"I hate divisiveness" is not how you run against Nazis. You run by calling them out as Nazis. You have to, or they even win when they lose.

I get what you're saying, but I don't get what you're saying. Andy had a binary approach to his campaign and his choice of ads, but it mainly centered around the economy and bipartisanship. Hell, his slogan from basically day 1 of his months-long daily covid updates was "We will get through this. We will get through this, together." Of course he implicitly knew his Democratic base would be smart enough to wear masks and get vaccinated, thereby increasing his voter share come 2023, but he truly meant everyone at the time, including Republicans. Or, at least, he did an excellent job of selling that he cares about everyone, including Republicans. Either way, a duped dunce or a truly cared for dunce flipping his/her vote is a way to win. He also played up the "Here's what I did for y'all during the Covid, tornado disaster, and flood disaster" card with his ads, because the man sent me my homeowner's insurance deductible back in the mail after my house got hammered by a tornado with a letter that basically said "You need it worse than we do." Which, God knows isn't true, because the state of Kentucky's more bankrupt than I am, but I digress. The second part of this campaign is yeah, the cultural issues, slamming home he's pro-choice with an ad featuring a woman who would have been forced to carry her stepfather's baby to term at the age of 12 (Kentucky jokes notwithstanding), if Daniel Cameron's "no exceptions for rape or incest" stance on the issue was enacted into law. It worked because Kentuckians voted 52-48% for the pro-choice option on Amendment 2, so Andy understood the numbers, and ran the ad. If it was 65-35% pro-life on Amendment 2 the year prior in Kentucky, Andy never would have ran that ad. Give Andy a 50/50 stage instead of a 65/35 tilted stage, he flexes his muscle more. I guess you don't think he would. He's definitely 100% Democrat though. I'll accept 35% progressive/65% Establishment.

From kos, so of course the wingnuts will reject it out of hand. But that just reinforces the sentiment expressed here. And why Repubs will continue to lose until they reject MAGA fascism and all the rest it stands for.

So, my daughter and her friend volunteered on election day to pass out literature on behalf of local Democrats near our local polling place in PrettyBlue County. I'm not going to disclose her age, but she isn't voting yet. And yes, as you might suspect, Dartagnan's daughter does lean Democratic, although that's been mostly reflected by the values of tolerance and respect of others she's developed rather than any overt political affiliation.

But that probably changed today, and wouldn’t you know, I had absolutely nothing to do with it. Some old Republican White dude did it for me.

You have to be pretty fucking ignorant to verbally abuse a school-age girl just trying out the experience and virtue of performing her civic duties. In fact you probably have to have your head firmly embedded in your anus before you apparently scrunch your neck down a sufficient distance to provide yourself adequate breathing capacity and power of speech to tell her and her friend that they “deserve to be run over by a bus,” just because they were passing out literature — sample ballots, as I understand it — for local Democrats.

Or maybe you could just be a typical Republican, I don’t know. But what I do know is that this guy — described as “old” by my daughter, which honestly could mean anyone from 30-95 — did not get the response he evidently desired.

No, actually they laughed at him. And they came home, after their shift was over, still laughing at him. Giggling, in fact, with that high-pitched, joyous giggle that only teenage girls seem to be capable of.

Look, I try not to be a helicopter Dad, so I didn’t explain to her that this might be one of those “teachable moments.” I didn’t need to tell her that if I’d been there, this interesting fellow they met wouldn’t have been on the receiving end of laughter (to put it mildly). Because I didn’t need to.

The thing is, she learned something about Republicans today like nothing Dad could have told her. And she, just like countless other people her age, has an awesome memory, especially of formative, “off-the wall” experiences like this. They take that memory with them, it germinates and grows as they mature and get older themselves, becoming part of the way they view the world and certain people in it.

See, they notice everything. They see everything, and they take it all in. They see the racism, they see the bigotry, they see the hate, and they recoil. They’re repelled by it. Because they don’t want to be like that. That’s not what they want for their future, most of them, anyway.

And they make a choice, and usually that choice stays with them for the rest of their lives.

I don’t pretend to know what Republicans are thinking when they embrace, Trump, Trump-ism, and all the bigotry, racism and hatred that comes with it. But they might want to seriously think about what values they’re projecting to our young people every time they open their mouths.

Because those kids are going to be running the show, very soon.

R/conservative is angry that late term abortions are still being pushed by dems. Some lamenting no woman’s health is being endangered by these laws.

they will never get it.

omg it gets better. Some of them challenging others, saying how can we be so extreme on abortion if we want small government . Answer- “people are just stupid for letting the state murder babies” lol

It's interesting.

They lie about abortion. Then they call the Democrats liars.
They lie about election fraud. Then they call the Democrats liars.

Is that all they have?

It's so interesting how these people like Youngkin for example did this very thing go around telling everyone that Democrats are out whacking babies out of wombs in the 9th month for sport. As far as I know the reason abortion needs to be an option throughout an entire pregnancy is because it is medically necessary in rare cases. Not because Dems want to kill babies.

Tim Ryan lost to JD Vance. I think he's forbidden to speak publicly for 4 years after that.

This. Believe it or not, despite the fact Ohio is all sorts of messed up, his race was winnable. He fumbled the ball once he got into the redzone.

People who opine Biden should drop out now are idiots. If we graded on a curve, Biden is likely the best president in my lifetime. Yes, I mean that. Given what he inherited, what he has to work with in not just the House, but the Senate as well, I do not know how any thinking person can believe his presidency has been anything other than successful. This is 2023 people, and being president now is about a hundred times harder than it was even 40 years ago. People are f uc king idiots man, just f uck ing idiots.

And on my way into my office this morning I passed by the one healthcare establishment inside the city limits that provides abortion care. The pro-birth protesters were there, as usual, setting up office. I was tempted to stop my car and hand them one of my remaining "Yes On Issue 1" door hangers and tell them to shove it where the sun don't shine, but I just drove by and smiled... I don't know how many hundreds of phone calls to union members I made, or how many doors I knocked on in August and late October-Election Day (mostly in the eastern Cleveland suburbs) but for any number of reasons, I'd say that was time well spent. And nobody shot at me, so that was a bonus!

CNN last night was showing how in Trump won areas of Ohio Issue 1 still was performing well. Of course then they would tell us that Biden's numbers sucked for 5 minutes but for a brief moment they would focus on what was happening not their predetermined narrative. You guys did great work!

Speaking of the media scrolling Threads and seeing a lot of media types openly wondering why Dem performance doesn't match polling is pretty fun. Watching them be all confused that somehow the NYT/Sienna Polling on Biden isn't causing all Dems to lose all elections is hilarious! Some seem to get it (I mean it happened literally a year ago how soon they forget) but a lot are dumbfounded! No one at CNN mind you, but MSNBC is all over the "we have no idea how this happened" backtracking pretending this is some weird outcome when non corporate media types had been saying this was likely for a few weeks now. (especially Kentucky and Ohio) Maybe talk to them and let the Tim Ryans of the world go work for Faux as their token Centrist.

Meanwhile, in rural Michigan where well-paying jobs are sorely needed, yokels in a tizzy over the Gotion battery plant because they think the CCP wants to spy on their boring lives have owned the libs by...owning the cons who voted to do the smart thing for their local economy.

Rural Michigan is really starting to stand out as a unique form of DERP.

Like I understand many areas have always been backwoods hillbilly, but there is also a hint that they currently believe they are better than those "Southern Hillbillies".
