2024-25: D3whky

So a day after falling out of the rankings SMU beats UW-Eau Claire 3-0.

Colby beat Suffolk 6-3 to open the season.

I've seen St. Mary's play twice so far this season. They're going to be a team that will win games they shouldn't and lose games that will make you scratch your head.

I can say that St. Mary's before the late-in-the-game coaching change, several western programs considered SMU the MIAC favorite and even a Frozen Four contender with how skilled their top players are. The coaching change was huge with how acclaimed Davis has been. New coaching systems and lack of experience are definitely going to threaten this team's upside. That and the fact there are never easy games in the MIAC. But we've already seen they can play with some of the best.

Elmira had a late coaching change and ended up in the national championship game...if a team is good enough they find a way

#15 Oswego upsets #8 Cortland 4-1. Cortland netminder Goergen looked mightily off her game today, letting in a few softies. Big win for the Lakers

#6 Plattsburgh wins an ugly one 3-1 against the Canton Kangaroos, handing the 'Roos their first loss to a ranked team this season.

Coach Kevin Houle reached career win 500, joining Bill Mandigo and Mike Carroll in the 500 win club.

It was a back and forth matchup up and down the ice, with the Cardinals having way more good chances than Canton.

Of the 4 goals scored in this game, Ciara Wall's power play goal to put the Cards up 2-0 was the only score that didn't go in off a defender. Ruegge, Wall and Conlon were the Plattsburgh scorers.

Plattsburgh hosts Buff State tomorrow, a team that has a win over Canton, a split in 2 games with Neumanm and a tie with Potsdam.

Canton will visit #7 Utica on Tuesday, their 3rd of 4 non-conference games against a ranked (or will likely be ranked) team this season. Their 4th is December 7th when they host Hamilton.

Middlebury wins in overtime against Wesleyan. Despite Midd throwing more than 50 shots on goal during regulation. The first 10 minutes of the game were Wesleyan throwing off their bus legs and being pinned in their own end. After that Wesleyan proved they were the faster team on the ice and disrupted the Middlebury system, and had multiple good opportunities of their own. Wesleyan took two games from Midd last year, so the rematch this afternoon ought to be interesting.

Some results from yesterday:

UWRF drubs UWEC 5-0. The Blugolds are now 4-3 following recent losses to SMU and the defending champs.

Trinity sweeps Hamilton with a 3-0 win.

Plattsburgh defeats Buff State 4-0.

Utica defeats Nazareth 2-1 in OT to salvage a split after Nazareth gave the Pioneers their first loss on Friday.

GAC has a much easier time against Concordia-Moorhead Saturday with a 6-2 win. The Gusties had only a one goal margin in Friday's game.

Amherst sweeps Conn College 3-1
Midd beats Wesleyan 6-0 for a sweep.
Norwich defeats William Smith 4-2

SNC finishes a sweep of Aurora 4-1 to go to 8-0 ahead of their trip east to the Cardinal/Panther Classic next Saturday and Sunday. They will play host Plattsburgh on Saturday and then either Endicott or Middlebury on Sunday depending on how the Sat games end.

Endicott swept a home and home with Nichols, winning 6-0 at the Levy Rink in Burrillville, RI and 4-0 at the Raymond J. Bourque arena in Beverly, MA. The Gulls found their mojo against the Bison, outshooting them 100-32 over the weekend and getting shutout performances from Casey Moritz (Jr., Trophy Club, TX) on Friday and Celia Dahl (So., Orono, MN) on Saturday. Next up is a bus and ferry ride to Plattsburgh for a matchup with Middlebury on Saturday. Plattsburgh or the Green Nights of St. Norberts await them on Sunday.

The Hilbert at Potsdam two-game series this past weekend was canceled. The only thing I heard was on the men's broadcast, where they said Hilbert did not have enough healthy players to field a team.

Don't know whether this was due to injuries or illnesses. They only have 15 players on their roster to begin with, with three goalies, so that's 12 skaters. Either way, this doesn't bode well for that program which is supposed to join the UCHC next year.

As it is, they only have 19 games scheduled, which ends on February 1. Well, now 17 if this series doesn't get rescheduled. (Technically, these games should have been forfeited, but since they were nonconference match ups, it doesn't mean anything how they are recorded.)

As a plus, I do like their uniforms...

Will you be heading up to enjoy the weekend tourney in person? Endicott has won at the Ronny B before

On Saturday the weekend before, Hilbert dressed 2 goalies and 9 skaters against Utica. It is my understanding that they chose not to allow a running clock to hurry the game end.

Huge tournament this weekend in Tampa. On Friday, #5 Adrian faces #12 Trinity followed by #8 Utica v. #13 Norwich. (Now that's a tournament!)
On Saturday afternoon the winners play for the championship after the losers play for 3rd place.

Late to the party here, but didn't Adrian split with Canton to open the season?

That's a fantastic tournament.

Yes should be a great tourney. Really hoping we get Utica vs Adrian.

We also have Card/Panther featuring two ranked teams in Midd and Plattsburgh alongside Endicott.

The Codfish Bowl at least has nationally ranked Amherst among their four.

Despite all of the talent in these three tourneys, University of Dubuque is tone deaf enough to use a tag line of "women's college hockey at its best" in posts for their tourney featuring them, MSOE, Lake Forest and SMU.
