2023-24 Penn State Nittany Lions

After one, it's 0-0 in Penn State's early game against Robert Morris. Robert Morris took the only penalty, and shots on goal are 10-7 for Penn State. The games this weekend are on BTN+.

After two, Penn State is up 1-0 on Robert Morris on a goal from Brianna Brooks. Shots on goal are 29-7 for Penn State. Robert Morris took 5 more penalties in the second, including a 5-minute major, and Penn State took 2. The second period was all Penn State, and they spent a ton of time in the Robert Morris zone (obviously, with all the power play chances). Robert Morris's goalie is keeping them in this one.

Penn State takes game one by a score of 2-0. Shots on goal were 37-16 for Penn State. Robert Morris took 8 penalties to 4 for Penn State. Goal scorers for Penn State were Brianna Brooks and Tessa Janecke. Game two tomorrow is at 1:00 (Eastern) on BTN+.

Bothun gets the shutout, her 19th. The CHA commish was hinting at an unknown team wanting to join, and I guess it is the Blue Hens.

In CHA weirdness, if today's conference games go as they should...

-- Penn State will extend its first place standing
-- Mercyhurst and RIT will be tied for second
-- Robert Morris will be fourth
-- Lindenwood will be fifth
-- Syracuse will be sixth

If predictions for holiday break standings had been taken at the start of the season, I would've had Mercyhurst alone in second place and then probably been wrong about the other four, especially RIT. I know Syracuse is rebuilding, but I would've never had them in last place at the holiday break. Lindenwood should just be made the permanent fifth place team, because they seem to like that spot. Their bright star is Morgan Neitzke, who right now is leading in pretty much all the CHA offensive stats. I wish Penn State could've snagged Neitzke when she was in the transfer portal.

Lindenwood was better under the coach before Shelly Looney. Shelly Looney's Lindenwood was better than Lindenwood now. The kick Flanagan to the curb by Syracuse has not worked out to well. Davis at RIT won coach of the year and then was kicked to the curb. RiT stuck with Celeste and looks to be in good hands, but it has taken three years and RIT now has scholarships to offer.

As far as PSU, if PSU can win about 22 games, the program will take care of itself under Kampersal. The next class looks really good. A nice winning season will take care of the class after that.

In my opinion, 22 wins is goal number one, winning the CHA tournament is goal number two and then winning a game in the NCAA's is goal number three.

After one, it's 0-0 vs Robert Morris. Both teams took two penalties, and the shots are pretty even (stats are wrong). No announcers in the first period...well, I can hear them like they're one tick from mute, so basically not there.

After two, Penn State is up 2-1 on two goals from Tessa Janecke (one shorthanded). Penalties are 5 for Penn State and 4 for Robert Morris.

Helgenmuller is back. What are the lines this game o/d?

Starting lines were:

Stella Retrum - Tessa Janecke - Katelyn Roberts (Karolina Hengelmuller - Lyndie Lobdell)
Lexi Bedier - Mya Vaslet - Alyssa Machado (Kendall Butze - Karley Garcia)
Maddy Christian - Brianna Brooks - Julie Gough (Maggie MacEachern - Leah Stecker)
Alva Johnsson - Maeve Connolly - Carrie Byrnes

Penn State makes it a sweep of Robert Morris by a score of 4-1. Goals today came from Mya Vaslet, Brianna Brooks, and two from Tessa Janecke. Both teams took 7 penalties (ouch) and the shots on goal were 40-22 for Penn State. Robert Morris was never really in the game...the first period stats looked pretty even, but the game play was all Penn State, and it was pretty obvious that once they settled into the game they weren't going to be beat. That's two good wins at home, finally, after finishing their insane 12-game road schedule.

Definitely not greasy, but highly skilled in my opinion. Thanks for sharing. Definitely a highlight reel goal. Vaslet is also putting up stats to go with her exceptional skating. Vintage Jersey was right on Stecker on d being a good move.

That's how I mean "greasy"...as in pretty slick moves. She even got some Team USA celly practice (hahaha)!

Bothun with a shutout and a .95 save percentage in the second game is a nice bounceback for her. 11 blocks in the second game is also better with Butze leading the way with 3.

Why is it that when I decide to go out for a quick cruise (I have a Honda 250cc scooter), it starts to snow? I just wanted to keep the battery charged and the fluids flowing, but two wheels in the snow turns not very fun in a hurry. Well, okay, it was fun anyway, but only because I hadn't gotten too far from home.

It sounds like retirement is treating you well and it sounds like you enjoyed the experience. How about Kailey Thalman showing up at women's hockey to give the girls some coverage! I'm still waiting on the pep band to get there more than once a year.

Yale will definitely be a litmus test for PSU - it's a golden opportunity to move up the ranks.

(In my best Duluth accent): Yahhhh, shur, you betcha!

I always love the ride, but this one was a little chilly. I was kind of testing my layers and seeing where I needed more...it didn't take long to find out. It was in the upper 30s outside, so not crazy cold or anything, but like anything else in winter you just have to dress for it.

I really, really hope Penn State doesn't just take this as a "doesn't count anyway" non-conference game, for exactly the reason you said. It's a great chance to move up the ranks.

In the last games before the holiday break, and the only CHA series this weekend, #15 Penn State is at home to take on #13 Yale tonight (6:00 Eastern) and tomorrow (2:00 Eastern). Both games are streaming on BTN+. The school pass is the cheapest option for BTN+, at $9.99 for the month, and that gets you both games...not a bad deal. There should be a decent crowd at Pegula tonight, as this is the only game in town. Here are links for tonight:

Should be a nice crowd tonight and I'm hoping for a really great crowd tomorrow for the annual THON game. There's a free post-game skate with the team tomorrow afternoon + kids get in free. Kampersal was on the Penn State Coaches Show last night (starting at 06:45 on the video): https://gopsusports.com/watch/?Archive=8944&type=Archive
