Pay attention to Nietzke and everything else will fall into place although Lindenwood handled Bemiji quite easily. Nietzke has 8 goals and 6 assists.
 
Penn State wins game one at Lindenwood 4-2, on goals from Julie Gough, Alyssa Machado, Katelyn Roberts, and Lyndie Lobdell. Shots on goal were 39-25 for Penn State, and both teams took two penalties.
 
Penn State takes the sweep at Lindenwood by a score of 8-2. Goals came from Leah Stecker, Stella Retrum, Alva Johnsson, Maggie MacEachern, Lexi Bedier, and the first career hat trick from Mya Vaslet.

That score is a shocker on RIT and Mercyhurst. What was really interesting is that Vasdani is not having the year that was expected so far and RIT is still getting it done.
 
Mercyhurst goes 0 and 2 against Princeton and Penn State had a bye this past weekend. Mercyhurst vs PSU is usually a good one, no matter the records and this weekend should not be any different. Janecke is quietly leading the team in points with 1 goal and 11 assists.

She's missing from the Twitter posts, but the team also announced the signing of Nicole Hall (Forward from Stockhom, Sweden) on Instagram + Facebook. She's played for the Sweden U18 team.

That's 2 defensemen and 3 forwards to replace (at least) 3 graduating players (Gough, Johnsson, and MacEachern). I'm wondering if some of the current seniors who have a fifth year of eligibility won't be returning.

The current roster of 18 skaters is the smallest number of players for years. A 20 person roster for PSU is more the norm. It looks like a good recruiting class.
 
Penn State is at Mercyhurst tonight (7:00 Eastern) and tomorrow (2:00 Eastern) for a rematch of last season's CHA championship. Unfortunately, it's on FloHockey, so I won't be watching this series. Freshman defender Karolina Hengelmuller is still out of the lineup...she hasn't played since October 14, so I hope she's okay. She's definitely missed on defense, with there only being five other defenders playing.
 
Going strictly off the stats...

Mercyhurst wins game one by 4-0. Total shots on goal were 21-16 for Mercyhurst. That's four goals on 21 shots on goal. Penalties were 9-3 for Penn State.

First period stats: shots on goal were 12-9 for Mercyhurst, no goals, no penalties for either team.
Second period: shots on goal were 10-2 for Mercyhurst, three goals, and penalties were 4 for Penn State and 1 for Mercyhurst. Penn State had 2 total shots on goal for the entire period, and 4 penalties.
Third period: shots on goal were 7-5 for Penn State, and they took 5 more penalties (just in the third) to Mercyhurst's 2, with one more goal for Mercyhurst.

Six of Penn State's forwards didn't register a single shot on goal for the game (Alyssa Machado, Maeve Connolly, Carrie Byrnes, Julie Gough, Mya Vaslet, and Alva Johnsson). Going by penalty minutes, Maeve Connolly and Karley Garcia both got 10-minute penalties late, so this one must have ended with some excitement.
 
RIT is back to being a spoiler, the scholarships are obviously making a difference. They have good goaltending also. RIT always seems to find goalies that are comfortable taking a lot of shots.
 
That's a nice bounceback with a 3-1 win. Mercyhurst played Princeton last weekend and Penn State had off and played Lindenwood the weekend before. I always think that the team that had the recent tougher competition has the advantage. Of course one could argue that all those penalties killed PSU yesterday. In any event it was a must win for PSU. The Brooks Retrum combo was productive. Lobdell and Johnson led with 2 blocks each. 7 blocks total is not enough though.

I think I would've started to really wonder about Penn State if they had played like they did in game one. The difference between these two games was pretty surprising.

Of course one could argue that all those penalties killed PSU yesterday. In any event it was a must win for PSU. The Brooks Retrum combo was productive.

That was a big change - 9 penalties in game one, 3 penalties in game two. Mercyhurst had 6 penalties in game two, but 23 penalty minutes - still trying to figure the math for that one. Then there were Penn State's shots on goal: game one, 16 shots on goal...game two, 47 shots on goal. Where did that come from (and where has it been hiding)? And 50% on the power play, too. Game two was just a totally different team than the one that showed up for game one. Maybe they needed to get their xxxx's handed to them in a game to have a wakeup call.

It's actually not too bad:

4 Minors x 2 Minutes = 8
1 Major x 5 Minutes = 5
1 Misconduct x 10 Minutes = 10

8+5+10 = 23 Minutes.

You probably forgot about the Misconduct minutes. Even though only 4:10 remained in the Third Period, all 10 minutes count for statistical purposes.

Thanks for clearing that up. I have a love/hate relationship with math...meaning I love to hate it.
