2022 - 2023 Season BOSTON COLLEGE

Well, 3 first round picks, a second round pick, and 2 third round picks amongst the incoming Freshman class. Add this injection of skill to Gauthier coming back and this should at the least be the most exciting BC team to watch in a while.
 
Their top 6 are going to be a threat to score every time they hit the ice. PP should be outstanding and the defense should be much improved with the new additions. They have a complete team to have a special season.

Absolutely! BC could have a first line of Gasseau-Gauthier-Ambrosio, while keeping the USNTDP line of Perreault-Smith-Leonard together.

Plus, they still have William Vote and Oskar Jellvik on the third line.
 
Great potential in that group, would still like to have Nesty and Kuntar bt we have to move on. Only 3 months to go, can't wait
 
Not to sound like a downer, but if the Boston College coaching staff doesn't hit it out of the park, the first week in August, the program could see some pretty lean years.

The players they have slated to arrive on campus this Fall are phenomenal. But, how many of those guys are going to be around for the 2025-26 season and beyond?

BC has (on paper) a weak class arriving in the Fall of 2024. Tim Delay, Nolan Joyce, Jake Sondreal, Teddy Stiga and Justin Solovey are nothing to get too excited over. None have produced very much in the USHL.

Unless the Eagles staff knocks it out of the park the first week in August (when almost all the top players commit), they could be looking at back-to-back substandard classes. And this is with Will Smith, Ryan Leonard and Gabe Perreault possibly being gone when the Fall of 2025 rolls arounds.

Does anyone know where Boston College stands with a lot of the top prospects? Aka guys that will be on the USNTDP U-17 Program this year.

This concerns me a lot too. The only good thing is that they don’t have a ton of players committed, so they can always add more. I like Sondreal quite a bit and think he’s the type of player we need. An older, point-producing guy who will likely stay 3-4 years. Stiga will be fine, but he’s not elite by any stretch. Solovey and Resendes don’t excite me at all tbh. Hopefully Solovey sees a big jump in production. My gripe has always been that we bring in players too early. I get that they might go elsewhere, but (as an example right now) I’d love to see Stiga play a year in the USHL after next year’s U18 season. I know it’s unlikely to happen, but unless you have truly elite young players like Smith, Leonard, or Perreault you’ll never win championships with the mid-level NTDP guys as 18-year-olds or 19-year-olds. Also, we currently have no defensemen committed right now, I trust that’ll change shortly. I think Greg Brown is the right man for the job, but I will admit I have some doubts (that aren’t a result of anything Brown has done though… More just that I’m pessimistic by nature). Brown coached the D when he was here before and that was our strong-suit. It became a real weak point after he left, so hopefully it goes back to being our strength. The D on the later York teams pissed me off to no end. It’s like they were clueless out there at times.

Stiga had a really rough start at the NTDP and struggled to find his playstyle but I thought he looked a lot better the 2nd half of the year there. It felt like he was trying to do too much individually at the beginning of the year and I don't think he was set up that well with linemates early either. I expect him to have a good year this year, I'm not too worried about him. NTDP players very rarely play another year of juniors after their U18 year unless they really struggle, he's not a fit there.

I think a lot of people are overlooking Resendes. He was absolutely dominant in prep last year, he's the type of guy BC used to recruit all the time but hadn't in recent years, it's great to see them get back to their roots there.

As for recruiting going forward, Im a big fan of them adding Brent Darnell from the NTDP as a 3rd assistant coach. He's been not only an assistant there for multiple years but also the associate director of player personnel. He'll have a ton of connections with coaches at the U15 and U16 level to help them out recruiting and he's been identifying and watching talent at that level to bring kids to the NTDP for years so there's big potential for recruiting moving forward with his addition.

The NTDP team Stiga is on is a really young team so I wouldn't look into too much of why they don't have any other commits. There's still 7 kids on the team who can't commit until August 1st and a bunch are defensemen. Hagens is the big fish everyone is going after. I've heard it's down to BC, Minnesota and Harvard but there's a weird thing with Harvard because Hagens is most likely accelerating in school to play his freshman year after next year's NTDP season. It becomes a matter of whether Harvard will let that fly. His brother is committed there and I'm sure they'll do everything they can to make it happen but we'll see. My guess is he ends up at Minnesota with Eiserman but I hear BC is in the final 3

The other big uncommitted NTDP target is Logan Hensler. He's a really high end defenseman, looking like a top 15 NHL pick. This one I don't have a read on but I'm sure BC has made a push for him
 
Worried about 24 and 25 ? More than ever before every year is a new team for every program. The Golden age of BC Hockey ended when underclassmen left after 2016 and while BC is still an elite program it is hard to dominate. I loved to watch those the teams, still love the talent but it is a different world in college hockey and it is not going and we are not going back to the old days. If you going to worry about two seasons from now you might miss the excitement of the coming year. I think it is tough to win with Freshmen but it is going to be fun to see how they do.
 
Ryan Leonard was on Spitting Chiclets yesterday, it was a pretty good interview for a kid as young as him. One little tidbit I picked up, they asked him if he had any sponsors or anything and he said he had a couple NIL deals. There has been multiple people talking about this around college hockey, it was good to hear he was able to cash in on some of it and BC was making moves there. Leaves me very encouraged for BC being able to continue to land high end recruits moving forward

The defense has been a concern to me since the 2016-17 season. Every year of the Jerry York Era, Boston College had a big, mean defenseman. Brendan Buckley, Brooks Orpik, Andrew Alberts, Mike Brennan, Nick Petrecki, Tommy Cross, Patrick Wey, and Steve Santini. Not any more.

Although, in BC's defense (no pun intended), I'm not sure how many of those guys are still out there.
 
Saw that Jamie Armstrong from BU is going to BC for his final season. Any insight as to what he could do for BC? Perhaps the last spot on the third line? Seems to have good size with few penalties and did have 5G 8A last year.

I'm not sure what Armstrong will bring. He is certainly a serviceable forward.

I would be really worried that BC didn't get any commits thus far for the Fall of 2025, but not too many of the top end recruits have committed (for some reason).
 
BC also picked up a third Grad transfer in Jack Malone from Cornell, 8G 9A. It appears they are filling out their lines with some experienced size and penalty free players. Their depth is looking much deeper this year.
 
I found some good news regarding the transfer from BU. Armstrong apparently excelled on the checking line. He also won the Iron Terrier Award. That award is presented to the player who most exemplifies character, strength, dedication and discipline in the weight room and off-ice training. Sounds like a Greg Brown type of player.
 
Interesting situation, has this happened before, someone switching ends of Commonwealth Ave. Will add some spice to the series this year. Both teams should be very strong this year. Getting close to the start of the season, can't wait.
