2021 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award

I actually think ZumBoom has a better chance than Watts now. My respect for the the award is crumbling.

It's Zoom Boom. You as a Wisconsin fan (having seen it first hand unlike other slubs on here) should be well aware of both of those aspects of her game.

Highly doubt she wins over the other two.

So ARD had no chance after a totally historically dominant year and the eastern bias on the PK reigns supreme since 2014. ... My respect for the the award is crumbling.
Oh, quit whining. She won the award after all, didn't she? Imagine being a UMD fan.

One of the problems with the Kazmaier is that they start the process so early that they are looking at only part of the season, and not including the most important parts. So there is often a lag between when players do something worthy and when they get rewarded for it. Then there are multiple players who are very comparable, and one gets the award and another never does. Forgive me if I don't lose any sleep over Desbiens having to wait a year when so many great players who had terrific seasons and careers didn't win one.

Different seasons have different committees. Who knows what this one will decide. The award has been much friendlier to Wisconsin over the years than most teams. Knight didn't win, but neither did Agosta, or Brandt, or JLam, or Darwitz, or Ouellette. It's just how it is.

I just felt that ARD's season was more compelling that year than it was the next when she won. The fact that she did win the next year really does say that this is more of a lifetime achievement award than an award for that year, at least 14 and on.

Sure seems to me that the process is flawed since it has to start so early.

No argument there. I wouldn't say that it is lifetime achievement, as much as there is somewhat of a lag to account for what happened at the end of the previous season, after the voting was complete.

Awards in team sports are imperfect at best, taking something that revolves around team achievements and splitting that team apart. In hockey, the defensemen are almost like offensive linemen in football, where they are far more likely to be blamed for failures than to be credited with success. So D receive token mention, if anything at all, and how does one accurately compare a forward to a goaltender?

Congrats to Frankel and can’t disagree with the decision but I’m still surprised she got both awards.
Two different organizations entirely. I would think each thinks of its mission as being independent of the other.
