2021 NCAA Championship: No. 1 Northeastern Huskies vs. No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers

I'm not a huge women's hockey guy but I cannot believe it's taken this long for ESPN to show the FF. I will definitely have it on as the kids go to bed and I clean up etc. I know the ratings are miniscule but it's a start. Much, much better than having it online on a Sunday afternoon or whatever the hell has been done over the years.

Amen to that!

Yeah, I hear you. I want to root for my conference but when it's the team that sent you home? Plus there's something compellingly underdog about NU with never winning it all before.

I’m rooting for WI in support of the WCHA. Have to be able to keep saying the WCHA is the best conference in the nation!

If it helps your 'decision making' process, after many years of observation, I have come to the conclusion that - shockingly! - who and what I root for seems to have no effect on the outcome whatsoever! It really is quite disappointing.

After our hockey season is over folks, keep how the NCAA, amongst other large institutional concerns, view women-their athletics, and do NOT walk the walk (they talk)! I’m sure you’ve all seen the inadequacy issues at the Final Four sites...
it’s a joke! None of us would ever allow someone to treat our women (moms, daughters, sisters, etc) with such disrespect for any reason! We have to do better! We here DO respect women athletes, their dedication and athleticism so if we don’t show and maintain what they’ve earned, the NCAA will never do a damn thing for women’s hockey!

Look at what http://markmessierfoundation.org has done! If you give any donation, they send you an email asking for a quick self meme(?) to explain why you support women’s hockey(this is in conjunction with the current PWHPA drive)....in this way, they grow the movement, get inclusion, create a buzz and begin changing minds!

I apologize for my grandstanding here but as I’ve said before, you folks already care how women’s athletics is handled....if only hockey was a year round sport! Thanks kindly!

PS...for you WCHA fans, ESPN has rerun the Wisconsin/Ohio State game twice now....the NU/UMD game not once! Obviously they believe they’ll draw more of an audience by highlighting the WCHA over HE.....

The UW/OSU game originally aired on ESPNU, while the NU/UMD games was only available as a stream on ESPN3, so that likely factors into it.

It’s startling to me Hockeybuckeye that in reading my narrative, that’s your response!! C’est la vie....

I’d love a separate thread, and will probably do that but I did purposely use the attention that this thread draws because of the dedicated posters beliefs.....

NU definitely winning the hype video matchup on Instagram so far. Wisc relying on a tik tok video from annie Pankowski so far. I mean it’s good but still, we are waiting, Wisconsin!

I can't cheer for either one, but 5-2 BADgers. The Championship will not leave the WCHA for another 6 years and then BC will finally win one with King-Crowley and Kennedy in 2027. This season reminds me of 2006 when New Hampshire was rated #1, but the Badgers took home the trophy by dominating the Gophers at Mariucci.

Is it just me or is the NCAA missing an opportunity to make some money by not offering a live video stream for those of us who for whatever reason won't be able to watch the game? Especially in a season like this one where attendance at the game is limited, you'd think (well, I'd think) they could make up the lost revenue from ticket sales and probably make more with a pay-per-view setup. Of course, it's entirely possible that I'm just whining.

Are you sure it isn't streamed at the ESPN web site? Besides the ESPNU showing on their "Upcoming" list, it also shows an "in Spanish" listing for ESPN3.

If they sold rights to ESPNU are they allowed to also sell as Ppv? I’m sorry you are missing out. Maybe find an emptyish bar and ask them to put it on?

I was in Columbus last year when the Rivalry Series game at Honda Center was played out in California. Neither my hotel nor the sports bar we went to had NHL Network, and I missed an OT classic. Gaps in coverage are no fun and I definitely understand your whining.

For a neutral fan, why would anyone root for Wisconsin over Northeastern? The overplayed WCHA pride angle?

I do think geography enters into it. I suspect there are many Eastern fans who have no direct ties to Northeastern who are nonetheless pulling for them.

Ya but that could be because Hockey East has never won one. Why would a Gopher fan want Wisconsin to win yet another title?
