2021-2022 D1 Women's Hockey Scores

It was nice to see the uscho article call out how good the RPI broadcasts are (very easy and FREE to watch) and challenge other programs to follow. It is crazy P5 schools can't do a better job in the broadcasts.

There is no excuse OSU's is so bad. I'd love to hear Muzzy's take on it as it is doing her program and their fans a disservice.

Can they fix the streaming without a new rink? not sure they can. But by all means ask the question. I watch a lot of just ok stream and OSU, due to the closeness to the glass and the protective netting, it’s the worst.

sadly Muzerall has changed her tune about the rink at least publicly. In year 1 she gave an interview where she said were getting a new rink it just needs to be fully funded, but we’re soon, we’re next after (some other sport). A year or so later she said while at a
CBJ game, and I’m paraphrasing “kids play in modest rinks growing up, why does it need to be fancy at college?.” But if that’s true, why does that standard only apply to the women and not the men at Ohio State?

I’m a Muzerall fan, it’s not her fault by any means. but Ohio State in general, shame on them for having a rink / streaming situation so shitty relative to what they are capable of. It was a good starting point 20 plus years ago but it’s long past time. They’ve recruited coaches and players for years promising a new rink. They’ve never delivered obviously. If my choice was this rink or cancel the program, of course I’d take this rink and streaming situation, but I don’t understand why 20 plus years into the program, biggest budget in the land, it’s even a theoretical choice at all.

There is no reason why OSU cannot have the same setup as Wisco and Minny - a 'practice' rink for men/women that doubles as the women's 'home rink'. I would have to think the crappy practice facilities for the men hurt their recruiting as well. However, in the case of both Wisco and Minny, it took a donor to create top tier practice facilities that could double as the women's home rink. Hope hockey is important enough to some OSU alum. Ideal situation is what PSU has of course - a single, hockey dedicated facility for both men and women for both practice and games, and not having to share the 'big hall' with basketball and other sports for the games.

Cornholio - you are right on both points. A practice facility that does double duty is reasonable, I think that was the most recent proposal, the problem is they came up with something that was still terrible from a women’s hockey perspective. Way to much like a bare bones practice facility. People in the program don’t weigh in often, they might prefer current rink location to attaching a practice rink/ women’s rink to the Schott as well but I don’t know. The Schott sounds like their was some poor planning around it, wonder if they would do it the same or do like a PSU.

donors is an issue. Women’s hockey has fewer rich people that care about it, and the stars don’t make what the guys make so how’s it going to change. Who knows. To that end the donors that do exist, well I’m grateful for them - the Ridders, the Boyntons, a family called the Lapins I think just have a bunch of money tonUSA Hockey that is funding the Olympic team, etc.

Anyway speaking of nice rinks Minn at Colgate is on now!

Somewhat beside your main point, but Wisconsin men practice at LaBahn because the Kohl Center gets switched back and forth set up for hockey to basketball. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that isn't an issue for Minnesota, with Ridder, Mariucci and Williams Arenas. So why would Minn men practice at Ridder? Do they?

Minnesota leading toothpaste after 2 periods 4-3. Minnesota's penalty kill continues to be bad although toothpaste did gift them a shorthanded goal which is the difference in the game.

The 3M Arena at Mariucci features a 200x100 foot rink. Ridder is 200x85. My understanding is that the men sometimes practice at Ridder when preparing for a road game at a 200x85 rink.

Harvard 4- Dartmouth 1. The real story is the young Dartmouth team who will certainly improve. Penalties doomed Dartmouth but there is a lot of young talent.

Come on people, where are the reactions to this score? The Mighty Bemidji Beavers vs Clarkson. A tie?

I only got to see the second half of the game but to my eye it looked like the Beavers were handling Clarkson very well even though the SOG were very even. The Beavers had the game won until in the last 3 minutes they decided to go into a “prevent defense” that allow Clarkson to possess the puck and get numerous chances. I hate it when teams do this! Have the courage to stick with what’s been working and continue to trust your players and play aggressively!

I'm not even just being defeatist or dramatic here, I think (1) this is the biggest East/West disparity in quality we've seen in my 15 years of following this sport and probably ever, and in particular (2) think this might be the worst Hockey East has been in that same time frame. The worst part is that this is an Olympic year when the teams at the top should be brought closer to the pack!

WCHA easily, without a doubt, has the top 4 teams in the country and it's not even close. OSU/UW and UM/UMD in whatever order you want.

Meanwhile over here in WHEA, coming into the weekend New Hampshire, Merrimack, Holy Cross, and Maine were a combined 3-21-2 with the only wins being 2 vs. LIU and 1 vs. Franklin Pierce. And one of the losses was a 4-0 Holy Cross loss to Franklin Pierce (!!), plus a Maine loss to St. Anselm.

The supposed Chosen One team of Northeastern got swept by BU and PC two weeks ago. BU has since gone on to take brutal shootout losses to the aforementionedly terrible UNH and Merrimack teams plus a regulation loss to dogcrap RPI (at least that's not Hockey East!), and PC needed two third period goals just to scrape by FREAKING UNION?!?!?!?!?!!?!!!!!!??!!!?!?!?!!

BC, God bless them, has managed to win all their games against terrible competition, but only by 1 goal each and has gotten outshot significantly in almost every game. At this point given all the chaos around them I'm just happy for them to get the wins any way they can.

This is awful and frankly it's not great for the sport in general, either.

Interesting read TTT. I can’t wait to see what Maine v BC brings today. No idea what to expect. I feel like the ice garden might have jinxed BC by saying it’s an easy weekend.

I mean in theory it should be lol... BC plays well at Conte so hopefully this is one of our better wins.

After two periods Minnesota is up 2-0 over Colgate. Could easily be a wider margin but several Gophers got a little two cutsie trying fancy moves skating in all alone on the Raiders' netminder.
