2020 Presidential Election I: Don't Say I Didn't Warren You

Kepler

Si certus es dubita
The Belle of Charleston says what we're all thinking.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) does not have a problem with Senate Republicans move to silence Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) for calling attention to Jeff Sessions' civil rights record on the Senate floor.

"The bottom line is, it was long overdue with her," Graham said the Mike Gallagher Show on Wednesday, according to a clip highlighted by CNN. "I mean, she is clearly running for the nomination in 2020."

"The Democratic Party is being pushed really hard by the most extreme voices in their community, and they just don't know how to handle it. If they empower her, then I think the Democratic Party is gonna lose way with the vast majority of the American people," he added.

Translation: "We're terrified of her because she is speaking to the same discontent Trump did, except she's intelligent, capable, and serious. We only have four years to do a Hillary Hit Job on her, so we're starting yesterday."

It will be easy to watch what the Echo Chamber tries out on Warren. Just watch Fish and Flag's posts. Fish will regurgitate the mainstream NRO attacks while Flag will give us the 5150 stuff. It will all be bullsh-t, but just as with Hillary if the media sleeps on spiking each fake story and accusation you never know, especially now with a Justice Department and FEC run by the metaphysical equivalent of Центральная избирательная комиссия Российской Федерации.

I have them both on Ignore, so you fellas are on your own. You've got a lot of help from the GOP, though. It was inevitable the American right would metastasize into a fascist party. We're just lucky they are an inept and self-destructive fascist party. :p

Also, you can't make this sh-t up.

In a little-noticed 6-3 vote today, the House Administration Committee voted along party lines to eliminate the Election Assistance Commission, which helps states run elections and is the only federal agency charged with making sure voting machines can’t be hacked. The EAC was created after the disastrous 2000 election in Florida as part of the Help America Vote Act to rectify problems like butterfly ballots and hanging chads. (Republicans have tried to kill the agency for years.) The Committee also voted to eliminate the public-financing system for presidential elections dating back to the 1970s.

What's really funny about this, which I brought up to an election security expert, all it takes is a few people who are mad at you to rig the election. And right now, it's pretty universal the hate against republicans.

Plus, we know most of the high tech firms out west are pretty liberal.

So it's really in the best interest of the sitting legislators to beef up election security.

They are not all that smart.

Presumably they think they and the Russians can hack the count. I don't think it's occurred to them that they would be going up against the people who created all the systems and tools they would be using to do so.

This is like a freshman script bunny trying to outwit LulzSec. Good luck with that.

And somehow, in 4 years, Russia will still want R's running the show? That's pretty funny.

Going a LONG way back in time, given all of the fear mongering that we are given, and all of the restrictions that we are willingly allow to take place, it's pretty clear to me that the goal of the terrorists as well as Putin, is actually succeeding. It's all destabilizing the west, and little by little, confidence in the "American Way" is being eroded from within.

They want a sh-tshow and they're getting it. Agreed.

It's amazing: Bin Laden spent $10M on 9/11 and got us to spend $5T to date (with no end in sight, ever). Putin spent whatever two hookers, video equipment and a new mattress cost to destabilize the entire American democratic process.

It's actually too bad these guys aren't physically running the country. They deliver first rate results quickly and cheaply. Princeton can use a man like Joel.

How did I know that the title and opening post of the first 2020 thread was going to involve St. Liz?

At the moment, there are only a few major D's that are standing up more than others. One of them is Senator Warren. Perhaps with the way things are going, some of the more minor Ds that can also be leader will also emerge.

Still, what happened with Senator Warren being shut down is a great job of rallying MORE people around her. Make her appear to be dangerous to the other party.

It's pretty funny that a few of the choices Rs have made in the past few weeks have had the opposite effect than intended. Then again, we should be used to it. As soon as R's made it a government recognized law of what marriage is- that forced the courts to allow gay marriage, as equal protection applies. Try to make sure gay marriage doesn't happen, and you end up make it a national law that its allowed. Great idea.

Ironic that a party that is so interested in smaller government with less regulations would stick their nose in the opposite, only to get it sliced off.

Once again, catering (cratering?) to the coasts. I thought you learned a lesson this past November. But just in case, let me repeat it - "Stop nominating coastal liberals for national office". As a KoD, why not put Patsy Murray up as VP?

However, given the midwest has dried up as a talent pool (shame on you DWS!), you may have no choice.

Uh, we are 2 years from when this really gets going. There's a long way to go, and a lot of angry people who are already tired of what's going on. There's a really good chance more people will step up to the plate.

Lets get through the mid-terms before we start saying one *possible* candidate is bad or not.

We should run this like a peloton. Put the high profile stalking horse in front to absorb 40 months of the GOP Hate Machine slander and lies. Warren's perfect -- she's a true leftist and a woman so all the worst dirt bags will be after her. Keep the powder dry on a handful of moderates with nice hair. Have Liz pull out well before the convention in exchange for substantial left-leaning economic policy. Run right up the middle on all the rest -- flash a gun around, talk about "bringing jobs back" rather than anything practical but complex, rally round the family.

In my industry we say "bid to win, not to perform," meaning you tailor your proposal to strictly what the RFP asks for at the lowest credible cost, even knowing that there is no actual way to deliver quality at that cost. Once you win the contract you work with your government COTR and ECP if you need more money -- it does her no good with her people for her contract to fail, so she'll play ball. In politics it's even easier because there is no strict SOW and requirements are fuzzy.

The GOP always bids to win, the Dems always bid to perform, and that's why we lose elections. The Plan was that the American people would realize that we weren't lying and reward us. Well, um, that didn't happen. :p So on this at least follow the GOP lead: bid to win. And hide your real nominee behind the high profilers to draw enemy fire. Force the GOP to have to start their smear campaign from square one with only a few months to go until the election. They'll never have a 25-year head start again like they did with Hillary, but they can do a lot of damage in 4 years, so Christ, don't lead with your dominant hand.

Won't matter.
Schumer is setting himself up as the person who took on Trump.

Schumer won't run for president. He is a born Power Broker. He wants to be the Democratic Senator who makes and unmakes multiple presidents. And he's smart enough to know that the job of president has become the worst job on earth for an ambitious person -- you can't accomplish much and no matter what you do 90% of the country will hate you for either doing too much or not enough.

Schumer is trying to maneuver to where he controls the Senate whenever the next Democratic wave happens -- 4, 6, 8 years from now. Until then he'll launch harpoons like Queequeg in the target rich waters of Republican whales, draw a lot of blood, and make a lot of Dems smile, meanwhile cutting ungodly under the table deals with Wall Street so he can control enormous spoils during election season.

Warren won't get close to the nomination. As the GOP has become more outsider, the Dems will shift a bit towards more establishment. She is far left, a destructive force like Sanders or Trump and a New Englander - and polarizing. She would destroy the Dems new coalition and send us into the wilderness. She's the right's dream scenario for the 'they're actually worse than we are' argument.

There has been more buzz about Franken.

Yep, I advanced basically that same argument a few weeks back. No more white Northeast libs. Warren needs to fight to keep her Senate seat, where she is more effective.

There has been more buzz about Franken.

A Franken presidency would be pretty ironic, considering I read Why Not Me? many years ago.

But it won't be him either.

I like his general approach and attitude. Tough but smart.

I thought he would have made a good attack dog for Clinton. But his speech at the convention was very, very bad. Not sure what was up with that.

Glad you added that. It shows you understand who he is.
