What got the Democrats the House in 2018 was taking college educated whites and the suburbs from the GOP and running on health care. Until Trump can pull himself away from the Wall and a fantasy GOP repeal/replace (Narrator: He can't), that needs to be the target as it's been proven to be successful. Nothing about eliminating the Electoral College, UBI, or whatever else that is a bridge too far. That's for when you *have* power, not running on it.
Obama got a Republican Health Care Plan. That's what he got. He didn't get Health Care. He compromised and was pilloried for it. Somehow, the Republicans can always get another 1.5 trillion in tax cuts yet the left can have nothing.
Why don't you try explaining that first.
This.
Health Care is the winner. Forget running on Universal just run on the fact that Trump is planning to take it all away. Once you win THEN you go for Gold. That doesnt mean you cant support the idea, it just means that isnt what the agenda is.
That is how you win in politics these days. That is also what the Dems never do which is why they suck at politics these days. Find the issue the voters resonate with and go with it. The voters, even the Trumpers, wont abide him destroying their health care. (even though they hate ObamaCare cause...reasons) So make them understand that is what he is doing. When the GOP fights back saying they will repeal and replace remidn the voters they have nothing to replace it with. Win the WH just like you won the House...
I'm saying if you think he can't possibly win those states again in the primary (or in a general if he did win the primary) like a certain Wells Fargo spokesperson, who doesn't understand marginal tax rates, keeps repeating ad nauseum in this thread, you're an idiot.2) If I read this correctly, trix thinks his hero Bernie will win MI and WI because he won the primaries there? Does that mean he'll lose Massachusetts to Trump because he lost that primary?![]()

Not you 5MMWhoa there chief. Where did I say he can't possibly win?
Not you 5MM
Yeah I should've made that more clear, I haven't had any major disagreements with Rover in this thread that I can think of.Yeah I was confused as well before you updated the post.![]()
Some thoughts:
1) Stop trying to have conversations with Scooby. He looks for bad news and when he can't find it creates his own, all for the purposes of pleasuring himself to it. It's both icky and nonsensical at the same time.
2) If I read this correctly, trix thinks his hero Bernie will win MI and WI because he won the primaries there? Does that mean he'll lose Massachusetts to Trump because he lost that primary?![]()
3) Biden should absolutely run. He's not my first choice but he's an acceptable one to lead the party. If he has too much baggage the primary voters will decide that for him.
4) I'll ask again: in the key swing states that must be won in some combination for 2020 (PA, MI, WI, VA, FL, IA, NC, AZ) - can someone name me the acceptable by your standards progressive who's won statewide for Gov or Senate in any of these places? If you can't name one, doesn't that maybe tell you something about your own standards being too rigid...
So progressives in the Kepler approved mold have lost every Presidential election since 1944.....but you think NEXT year will be different???
Okay...
Curious who didn't make the cut as the last progressive nominated. Who did you include? Adlai Stevenson? Hubert Humphrey? George McGovern? Walter Mondale? Mike Dukakis??? Obama? FLAMING CONSERVATIVES, ALL OF 'EM (except for one, apparently).
You are Bob Gray. The transformation is complete.![]()
I meant McGovern but I'll give you Adlai Stevenson. The Happy Warrior (HHH) had been a great liberal but remember in 1968 he expressly ran against liberalism in the primaries. Had he run with the courage of his convictions he'd have won.
Mondale was simply a machine pol -- he is the best argument against your fetish for established, unscary candidates. Dukakis was a technocratic pragmatist -- a Clinton ahead of his time and with less personality.
You are a prisoner of the cliches which come out of the abuse heaped against liberals in the 1980s and 1990s. It comes through in the dripping venom you have for anybody with a wisp of idealism. You were beaten so bloody by authoritarians condemning principle as naivete that you have become one. I don't think you are deliberately cutting through your own Achilles tendon. It's just the inevitable result of the shibboleths you observe.
"The poor are prevented from thinking by the discipline of others. The rich by their own."
I'm saying if you think he can't possibly win those states again in the primary
I like your flowery words mixed with a healthy dose of hallucinogens! As I wasn't born yet I'll just assume your take on HHH is wrong as you're often not correct in your study of history, but again I wasn't there.Beyond that though I can't laugh hard enough about the Duke not really being a liberal. I mean, you're getting into Flaggy type absurdity now.
What I'd like to do, and you don't want to do, is win. Even though the type of progressives you prefer are apparently on an unbroken 68 year losing streak (1948-2016) NEXT YEAR WILL BE DIFFERENT!!!!! Obviously deep in your heart you know that's not true. But like Scooby, you like to lose. You revel in defeat. Its comforting. You wouldn't know what to do if you won politically, so you'd immediately start looking for reasons to be disappointed in order to get back under your security blanket of disappointment. I think this also explains your distaste for the winning ways of Boston sports teams, but that's a topic for another thread.![]()
I keep forgetting you could legitimately just be an idiot and not a troll. I mean, BU, right? My bad.
