Interesting fact. My grandfather lived long enough to see my dad get married. And his brothers.

I assume that happens a lot.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

Mine didn't. Also probably normal.

Until 2 years ago, my family had 4 living generations at any time since about 1900 (might have been before that, too, but haven't done any research). Depending my nieces and how long my parents want to stick around, there's a good chance that we'll have 4 generations in 7-10 years at the earliest.

Michigan and other waffle states voted overwhelmingly for D’s in 2018, which points to a future for our nation in 2020 and beyond. The one thing that could re-elect Trump and possibly end the American Experiment permanently is nominating someone as blindingly stupid and meanspirited as Trump himself is (Gillibrand) or someone who is bat**** insane (AOC etc). Don’t screw this up. There are human candidates available.

Blue waffle:D

I would say don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. When people start insisting that any Dem nominee needs to support universal basic income and the green new deal or they won't vote, they need to be beaten senseless by an angry mob. Otherwise aside from a few fringe candidates the Dems are coalescing around a similar set of issues so its a matter of who delivers the message best. Issue #1 is voting rights.

Are you saying the ones who would benefit the most from it are the ones against it? Because, yeah, that seems about right in line with how things have gone lately.

That's why Ayn Rand politics has worked so well for 40 years. We'll need another Depression before we get anything resembling an FDR policy again.

You didn't learn anything from 2016, I see.

If you're siding with the right against the left it's time to ask yourself which side you're on.

But I think the answer to that is clear.

Your own.

Nobody real is doing that, but nice strawman.

You always say your way or the highway, Rover, but because your way is centrist you think that makes you a pragmatist or a compromiser.

But you're not. You're just another fanatical ideologue. It's just your ideology is a knife so dull it won't cut anyone -- or be good for anything.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

I think Joe Biden should run. Likeability is key. And what's not to like? Plus he has the appropriate aura of wisdom and success ("gravitas" if you must) tempered by humility (personal tragedy) and good humor. He's the guy everyone wants to have a beer with as opposed to the guy you want to pour your beer on.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

And what's not to like?

I would vote for him over Dump, but worry that he's too old, and has too much history of gaffing to inspire people under 35. He and Dump will waste a lot of time trading barbs about their lecherous histories. Dump will tout his fake degree from Wharton that daddy paid for, and how he's such an Ivy League Guy, while pointing out Biden's falsely claimed Masters' degree that derailed him in '88.

Kep I don't have to sign up for every lunatic lefty idea to prove to you my bona fides as a liberal. I was telling you the GOP was a cult 10 years ago while you were still thinking Bernie Sanders was going to win over half of them with his appeal to economic justice.

UBI - total idiocy. No, we shouldn't let our opponents dictate our policy but there is something to be said for not showing up to a fist fight with your eyes closed and your chin up.

You are missing the point. You don't have to be on our side, but you should be respectful and not try to triangulate your way by undercutting all your possible allies. That's the Hillary Way: the Entitlement of the DLC. It ruined this country.

By all means speak passionately for your ideas but stop undercutting the stronger liberals in our coalition. You know for a fact that you will always get about 98% of what you want in the platform, because that's how the Democratic party goes. My side will never dominate the party. You have controlled the party since the mid 70s and will in the future.

BUT YOU CAN'T KEEP WRECKING EVERYTHING THAT IS FARTHER LEFT OF YOU, OR THE COUNTRY WILL KEEP SLIDING RIGHT. Why you can't see what is a simple fact is beyond me. Your ideas will control the party but if you keep destroying the reputation of the left in this country then our choices will be far right vs center, and we will keep on sliding deeper into the right wing sewer.

UBI is inevitable, but we're probably not going to see it in the next 20 years. Or the country dies. I know most people in the country want it to die but I was kind of hoping it wouldn't.

The choices are:

1. UBI
2. Massive population die off in wars, civil unrest, and famine
3. Genetic change in the population bringing intelligence forward and pushing aggression out

I suspect we'll have a combination of all three. It's possible gene therapy will save the day before there's a war of all against all among the dummies, but either way they will be bred out.
