Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers VII: Bon Voyage Beto

Tinfoil hat time. Is there any chance that he's getting into the race because he needs name recognition as someone has offered him to be a running-mate but wants more exposure? There's zero chance of that, right?

I've never heard of anybody saying to x, "hey, I like you but nobody knows you, so get in the race (against me) and then lose and drop out and then I'll pick you."

I'm not saying it's impossible, but that sounds like a three cushion behind the back shot with a blindfold.

What is very likely is a regional guy gets in to become a national name for either Veep this time for the whole enchilada down the road. I am firmly convinced that's the only reason Inslee and Amy and Gillibrand and 3 or 4 others were ever in it.

He wouldn't be doing this prospecting would he? Get his name out there and see if anyone wants him as a VP or cabinet secretary. That almost seems more plausible. I don't get it though, working at Bain and probably making bank? THat seems way better than getting torched by the media and voters and having to work 100x hard than he would at Bain.

Anything is possible but the only front-runner who would want him is Biden. If Biden were the nominee a black VP candidate would be attractive, but MA is a given. Better to choose Andrew Gillum in hopes that he can help bring Florida's 29 electoral votes into the blue column. That's what Warren might be doing.

What's his angle here? Because jumping in at a time like this just seems insane.

Once you have enough money you want the interns to blow you for your sparkling personality, not your checkbook.

That is an excellent choice. He can help with GA, too. Those states are brothers in arms now after getting f-cked over by the GOP voter suppression machine.

Oh man, the more I think about that... I think he works with Biden and Sanders, too. You may have just named the Veep 9 months in advance.

It does give you an excuse to not compete in IA and NH if you're going to get lost in a whiteout there anyway.

Yeah but I looked it up earlier, he’s only worth a few million. Not tens or hundreds.

It must be hidden in the Caymans. He works for the Masters of the Universe. They literally print money.

So peeps at Bain don’t work :p

Money makes money. Everybody at every financial firm could die tonight and be replaced by their maids. The money would still make money.

They may "work," but it's not work in the accepted sense of "activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result." The man who stands next to the sausage machine "works" in the sense that he draws a salary and can't go to the beach that day (note: the Bain guy isn't even limited like this), but the machine is what creates.

Not as much as politicians running for president.

As Marilyn said:

"You know," Monroe once said, "that when a producer calls an actress into his office to discuss a script that isn't all he has in mind ... I've slept with producers. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't." In 1955, 20th Century Fox awarded Monroe the richest per-film contract of any actress. "It means," remarked Monroe, "I'll never have to suck another cock again."

Rest my case.

That is a good piece, and not from a friend. Really solid; thanks for posting it.

OK, this was pretty good. :)
