The young woman didn't ask permission, she repeated Kamala at Kamala's request, and did it of her own will. ;) Nitpicking, sure.....

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

“Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids — ” Biden said, to some scattered applause, before correcting himself, “ — wealthy kids, black kids, Asian kids.”

:p I took it as the Twitter poster did: a moment of genuine connection between the two, and motivating the youth of tomorrow.

I fully agree on that Twitter comment.

Truth over facts. That's a new one. Jesus.

Yea and somebody decided that he was superfluous to the needs of the Civil Rights Movement

I like conspiracies too but Malcolm was just Elijah Mohammed getting rid of an ex who knew too much. Had nothing to do with radical politics and everything to do with sex.

That's as stupid as Dump.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

Biden is in full gaffe mode.

Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. raised eyebrows on Thursday during a speech in Iowa when he said that “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids,” an apparent gaffe for a Democratic presidential candidate whose record on race has come under intense scrutiny during the primary.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

Bet it doesnt affect his numbers one bit. If people cared about gaffe's these days he would have been out of the race a month ago and Trump wouldnt be President. The rubes find this stuff endearing.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

One of Biden's weaknesses is he is so old and out of touch. These gaffes coming from somebody else might just be shrugged off as misspeaking but with Biden it could show up as a risk of senility.

We don't need to make this mistake, Dems. 2016 is ringing the phone off the hook right now. Ixne with the Oldes.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

So the ninth candidate to qualify for September’s debate is....Andrew Yang??!!

Agreed. Nobody gives a fuk. Whenever Biden's rivals start harping on sh it like this they just look petty and actually increase his chances. People don't like being nitpicked or talked down to.

Its up to the younger candidates to broaden their appeal. Eliminate anybody over 65 and the top 3 candidates making up for about 60% of the current polling (Biden, Warren, Bernie) are out. How exactly does that benefit the Dems? Its not like the Republican candidate is some sleek and youthful looking person himself. :D I'd be happy for Kamala Harris to emerge (my 2nd choice). But she's gotta earn it. The way to take down Biden is to thank him profusely for his service, and the stellar record of the Obama administration. However, much like Teddy Kennedy passed the mantle of liberal leadership to Obama, its time for Obama/Biden to pass that to someone new to keep moving the country leftward. Trashing Biden for editorials written 40 years ago, or opposition to forced busing, etc - none of that is going to work.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

Nobody should trash Biden, but we should be aware we are making the same mistake we made in 2016. Familiar isn't always better.

It's not age per se. Warren and Sanders haven't lost a step and for all I know they're even older than Biden. But Biden looks obsolete when it comes to addressing any of the changes any liberal wants to see. He seems like an impediment. That can work -- LBJ was seen as a big step backwards in 1963 and all he did was the VRA and the Great Society. But the optics are sh-t.

You don't think Sanders looks even more creaky and out of it than Biden does? Have you ever seen him trying to explain his plans in detail?

Yes on Warren as she's sharp as a tack and she's probably forgotten about more than the rest of us will ever know. However, if you apply the age brush to one person its going to apply to all of 'em, even the one that you and I both hope gets the nomination.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers IV: Culling the Herd

Naw, I think he looks like Sanders. The only change is last time he was the new kid in town and this time he's a known quantity so the charm offensive isn't quite as effective. He's also operating within a field where he's within the same continuum from center to left, whereas last time he was out all alone on the flank. Both these things contribute to him being less fun this time.

And for that matter, Warren is so obviously better as a choice for the broad mass of lofo voters that I find myself twitching impatiently with Bernie and telepathically sending him messages about dropping out and supporting her.

However, if you apply the age brush to one person its going to apply to all of 'em, even the one that you and I both hope gets the nomination.

I repeat, it's not age per se. Warren and Sanders can get away with looking like the aunt and uncle of the Elder Gods because they are talking about new policies and refreshing solutions. Biden can't because he's peddling 1992 to an electorate half of whom have completely passed him by.

Joe seems like a good egg. He needs to have a moment of reflection and realize he is not the good choice for us. But who can really do that, when they're in sight of the Presidency? Who has that level of self-awareness? I'd guess any person who does did not get into politics. Every one of these people is, in their heart, Tracy Flick.

I never want to see that skit without Ferrell, so if you can get him we'll talk. Else, nah, let it sit in resplendent untouchable glory like Gone with the Wind.
