2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

1. Somewhere I said I'd require a US passport (proof of citizenship to vote) and would require it be provided free to citizens. That's all it takes to vote.
I couldn't even get my passport because my parents gave me the wrong birth certificate. Making that a requirement to vote (a fundamental right of this country) is ludicrous, **** that. And they're very organized and have that type of stuff lying around in a safe, that's almost certainly not the case with people who aren't of your typical (white) upper middle class family.

Good.

“Exclusive: The DNC will reject Fox News for debates, citing an article that suggested the network is "propaganda" for Trump.”

I was fine with them doing one on Fox until I read about how they buried the Stormy Daniels story. That was the straw that broke that back. Still anxious to see what Chris Wallace does this Sunday.

5. Nope. Not going agree with a system where someone can become POTUS after campaigning in maybe 150 square miles of the country.

Which of course is not true. Why do you agree with a system where 150 million people have absolutely no impact in an election? With the electoral college there are only 10 states that matter.

Without the EC, a vote in Florida is the same as a vote in Delaware or Oregon. Candidates would actually need to campaign nationwide.

If that's where the people live that's where they live. I'm sure the flyovers love a system where 1/3 of the country will control 1/2 of the Senate by 2040, but it's the same as rotten boroughs in pre-1832 Reform Act England. The days of the rural (white) domination of urban (diverse) population centers are drawing to a close. You may rage against the dying of the light, but that sh-t will soon be history, and good riddance. It's just another sepia-toned cloak for racism, like voter id.

6. Return the Senate to appointments by Legislatures*. Repeal A17; go back to the original wording of Article I, Section 3.

*Drive the importance to more local legislative bodies and away from the Federal behemoth. We have 50 experiments in representative democracy. Let's better use them as laboratories to find the best solutions.

LOL. Sure. You know why we took the Senate away from the legislatures and gave it to the people, right?

Talk about a recipe for plutocracy. May as well restrict the franchise to landowners while you're at it.

Without the electoral college only these counties matter as they make up half the US population.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

So it'd be more democratic and land owners wouldn't (by design) have more say. Oh noez!

Better question:
Has direct election resulted in the intended consequences.

At least they'd be somewhat accountable to Legislatures and not solely the donors it takes for re-election.

That's where the people live!!!!

Don't you get that? Your dirt and shrubs don't have the right to vote, people do.

Yes, but we're still a republic made up of several States. Your proposal is the death of A10.

If you want a Federal democracy, well, you have the road map.

I’ve never thought of it that way before. I mean, obviously I’ve heard “land doesn’t vote” but I haven’t thought of it as land owners have more say.

I kind of feel stupid now for not having thought of it like that before.

The tenth amendment has been dead for decades. That you still think it’s alive is hilarious.

The States are as obsolete and ridiculous as the margraviates of the Holy Roman Empire.

I recommend we redivide the US by equal population.

To everyone else's point, many of those empty counties have a vote that counts.

But what of most of those blue counties? The one's where the people live? They have no vote. Chicago? No vote. DC? No vote. LA, SF, Seattle? No vote. Even Houston, Dallas, OK City, Birmingham. No vote. And even the less pop counties, WY, ID, MS, AK, VT. Today, their votes don't count either.
