2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

Hitting the campaign trail, Pete Buttigieg gives Iowa voters a glimpse of what he's about.

The South Bend mayor is likely the least known, with the smallest chance of winning, of any of the serious Democrats who have indicated a desire to run in 2020. He doesn't appear to be doing anything early on to make it harder on himself though.

Buttigieg has been a mostly effective mayor. Before anyone decides that a "mostly effective mayor" might not be qualified to be an effective president, remember that the resources available to a president to be able to fix the nation's problems are vastly different than the resources available to fix a mid-sized city's. I don't know that Buttigieg is ready now, or will ever be ready, to be the president. I do know he is highly intelligent, has an ability to see big picture solutions and is worth listening to.

I also wouldn't mind seeing him elected since I have had conversations with him and a picture of him with me when I worked for United Airlines. In 2016 I assumed pictures of me with Tim Kaine were going to be a lot cooler than they turned out to be.

“We’re starting in Wisconsin because, as you remember, there wasn’t a lot of campaigning in Wisconsin in 2016. With me, that changes.”

Klobuchar with the shade.

Klobuchar with the shade.

That's the ticket. Fck the long game pipe dreams of flipping Georgia, Arizona, and Texas when you lost Michigan and Wisconsin last time. This is like fixing a hockey team with a losing culture and no discipline - reestablish team rules, get back to emphasizing what you know you do well, and focus on key areas where improvement will most quickly yield positive results.

Her best shade was this:

Science is on my side, @realDonaldTrump. Looking forward to debating you about climate change (and many other issues). And I wonder how your hair would fare in a blizzard? ☃️

Why not both?

For the present I would still commit resources to slogging it out in the Rust Belt burbs, but the future is the West, specifically the Southwest.

Because you have to win before you can worry about the next step. If you want to win the series you have to win a game THEN you worry about a sweep.

Amen. Hillary tried to win Georgia and the Carolinas.

**** that. Hold the wall. I’d rather win by 1 than lose.

Get back the anti-Hills from the last election, the Dems win. Period.

This. I think both sides are underestimating just how much Hillary, specifically, was hated.

The GOP Slander Machine tries to turn every Democratic nominee into The Great Satan, but with Hillary it worked perfectly, for whatever reason. It was partly that they had more time for her: 25 years of constant screaming propaganda turned up to 11. But it was more that she actually was inherently unlikable and untrustworthy. She is a phony in ways that are keening and obvious.

We have nobody else like that. It doesn't mean we'll easily romp in 2020, but it does mean if we are smart we will get back a metric sh-t ton of people who voted against Hillary instead of merely for Dump or even against-any-Dem.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers III: Weekend at Bernie's

No they won't or no don't bother?

It assumes facts not in evidence. Everyone forgets what happened before Hillary and assumes Hillary was the entire problem. His response as usual is devoid of context.

It worked because it started when I was in middle school. The entirety of the Faux agenda back ten was slandering the Clintons. 30 years of the same rhetoric makes it seem more legit.

That is why it falls flat on most other candidates...they just never have the foundation built.

Agreed. Its more like Klobucher with the stupid instead of with the shade. I don't understand why we're trying to eat our own.

Regarding where you campaign, you can't ignore driving up vote totals in educated suburbs. Even if they're in Georgia or Arizona or Texas. Forces GOP to spend resources on these places and helps you win down ballot (think Obama's 2008 campaign). Money won't be a problem for either side in the upcoming election.

This is another reason why I'd love Stacey Abrams to make a Senate bid in 2020. She can really drive turnout above and beyond what the top of the ticket is doing.

Except he is right. You can talk context all you want you flip 200k Anti-Hills in 3 states Trump goes down in 2020. You can pretend that isnt a fundamental truth because of other candidates that lost but they lost for other reasons. Kerry didnt lose for the same reason Hillary lost nor did Al Gore.

The funny thing is for someone who is whining that the Rube is ignoring context you are doing the same ****ed thing. People stayed home where it mattered most. They didnt do it for any other reason than they didnt like the candidate.

Odd that people are pooh poohing the unprecedented and coordinated Russian effort with the GOP. People have a tendency to believe that would never work on their preferred candidate. Prepare to be surprised is all I have to say about that. So from my state the Russians are going to come after Warren for example with everything they have. Look for doctored photos on facebook with her dressed up in Native American gear if it looks like she's doing well in the NH primary.
