2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

No need. The hard right always thinks we're going to come after them. We're not.

Speak for yourself. I want to see them obliterated. First by expanding voter rights which is a one way ticket to irrelevance for them as the people they suppress are the ones voting against them. Then I want an FBI investigation into all Russian influence and payments to us govt and political organizations. If that means Paul Ryan gets hauled before a judge in leg irons because he's been accepting suitcases full of rubles, so be it. If that means the NRA goes down on a money laundering charge, so be it. Finally, if right wing states think the gubmint is evil, pull all government funding from them. All of conservatism is completely corrupt in its current iteration and needs to legally be wiped off the face of this country.

On another note, it seems Kep has finally been deprogrammed from the Bernie cult and has accepted the core tenet of Roverology, which is the worst Dem is better than the best Republican, so happily vote Dem every fuking time. Good to have you back.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Of course, wrong.

Five Myths about the Fall of Rome
Washington Post

MYTH: The empire collapsed because of Christianity.

In his monumental study “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire,” Edward Gibbon famously proposed that Christianity sparked a decrease in civic duty leading to its collapse. But no modern scholar believes Gibbon’s thesis.

I was not referring to Gibbon's thesis, and to be candid I was just throwing some shade to the Death Cult to be a jerk, so, sorry. However, there are still plenty of folks who note the importation of an Eastern mystery cult into the heart of a western culture was part of the destruction of Roman identity and confidence. Christianity was certainly to blame for Rome's turning its back on science and reason.

There are four historical rules that apply to all religions:

1. The contents don't matter, the box is the point.

2. They are fungible expressions of primordial human fears and interchangeable.

3. They make good servants and terrible masters.

4. They are useful metaphors but if you take them literally you have Missed The Point.

Hillary's dead and Gabbard threw away her shot. There is no other Democrat dangerous enough to have a positive expected value opposing.

BTW, you will be happy to note that while of course I'd vote for him as nominee I would strongly dissuade Bernie from running. There are plenty of others who can do the job better.

But I'm not rank-ordering my choices and I'm not going to have a rooting interest this time. My favorite Democrat is the one who wins our nomination, and I love all the rest of them. I have fully adopted Reagan's 11th Commandment for the Dems and I hope you do, too.

I mean I'd be curious to know which other options are as likely to actually implement the progressive agendas that have since become mainstream because of him. Other than that I mostly agree, I'd vote for Joe Manchin or Hillary over Trump (and then not be surprised when we get a worse fascist in 2028).

Might want to talk to someone about this.

Of course, that's not true either. Changing threads.

You're right about that. No point in having the superseded tech live on in my head.

<img src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8814/17133125587_19ea3c6297_o.jpg" height="200">

In addition to ridding Rome of much of its early brutality and godlike dictators, their monasteries were local intellectual centers on nearly every front imaginable and shepherds of ancient thought that would spur the renaissance.

After having destroyed a millenium's worth of learning, closed the academies, and taken 4 centuries off to pick their nose in the ruins of the Forum.

Reason is the enemy of faith. I didn't say that. The Patristic fathers did. And their head-in-their-orifice insistence on denying reality when it conflicts with their myths has persisted down through the ages.

"Reason is a whore, the greatest enemy that faith has; it never comes to the aid of spiritual things, but more frequently than not struggles against the divine Word, treating with contempt all that emanates from God." -- Martin Luther

We finally broke that spell with the Enlightenment. You can stay in your cave, but don't try to peddle that nonsense out here in the sunlight. The figures you cower before are merely your own shadows.

I predict he won't even win the Five Boroughs during the primary.

Made the mistake of turning on cable news a couple days ago, and FFS, I couldn't believe the political ad cycle has started anew over Dump's stupid ****ing wall.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Before it was discussed how Beto and Bernie might compete for votes...even though they are seemingly dissimilar. Well the strategy of using the far left to defeat Beto is the new GOP strategy.

THE G.O.P.’S PLAN TO TAKE DOWN BETO: UNLEASH THE BERNIE BROS

Frankly, the best strategy to take down Trump is Minnesota's Tim Walz approach. In Minnesota's governor primary process, the outstate D moderate Walz was favored over more liberal Twin Cities candidates - even in the cities - because instinctively they knew he would be better at taking down the GOP. The plan worked like a charm...and Walz sailed to victory.

In the presidential election, we need to do the same by putting up a moderate candidate. That's why the GOP is trying to stop moderates like Beto and help Bernie. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see Russian trolls start to support Bernie and attack Beto.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Just about anyone can beat Trump, I'm more interested in doing that and seeing whoever wins actually deliver something of substance to the working class for once.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Instinctively people thought Hillary had the better chance despite all polling evidence that suggested otherwise but we'll ignore that because it doesn't support MY Tim Walz narrative in which the candidate who had like 100x as much money won...

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

A few points:

1) While I've been guilty of this myself, we need to put aside the notion that either Hillary was a historically bad candidate or Bernie Bros all voted Chump to put him over the top. As time has now shown, the primary reason for Trump's election was an unprecedented effort by Russia to put him in the WH through legal and illegal means. I'll let Bob Mueller sort out what Chump did and didn't know, but with the scope of the Russian effort now known that's why he won and she lost. Every time he did something stupid that would normally bury a candidate, Russia would turn around and leak some BS damaging to Clinton that the sheep like media would run with. Had Bernie, Martin O'Malley, or Lincoln freakin' Chafee been the nominee, Russia would have done the same thing.

2) I'm somewhat skeptical of this latest GOP/Putin effort for several reasons but the most prominent being that there's like 20 people running for President. Which one do you choose to boost over the others? Its not like the either or contest of Hillary vs Bernie.

3) Lastly, aside from Joe Biden, who exactly is the "moderate" amongst the people running for Prez? Sherrod Brown? Klobacher? Booker? Really?

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Meh, the voter suppression done by Republicans had a far greater effect than anything Russia did. And she was a historically bad candidate.
