Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Beto in the news. Not really sure what ICE was thinking when it dropped 200 migrants in the middle of nowhere.

Beto O'Rourke seeks help after ICE leaves 200 migrants at El Paso bus station

U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke - a potential candidate in the 2020 presidential election - is calling for donations and help after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement dropped off at least 200 migrants at the El Paso, Texas, bus station.

O’Rourke, whose term representing El Paso expires shortly, posted on Twitter that local shelter Annunciation House needed fresh fruit and unworn clothing .

ICE dropped off the migrants Sunday and Monday at the local Greyhound station, with more buses of people expected on Christmas day.

The agency typically coordinates with local shelters to make sure there is space for them to stay. But U.S. Rep.-elect Veronica Escobar, O’Rourke’s successor, tells The Associated Press that ICE officials dropped people off at the bus station after Annunciation House said it didn’t have enough space.

Escobar called ICE’s action “really alarming.” ICE did not respond to a request for comment.

Co-published by The Guardian and Newsweek

Following Beto O’Rourke’s spirited run for the U.S. Senate, powerful voices in the Democratic Party establishment have touted the outgoing Texas congressman as a 2020 presidential candidate who, as the party’s standard-bearer, would offer a vision of America contrasting against that of Republicans. However, a Capital & Main review of congressional votes shows that even as O’Rourke has represented one of the most Democratic congressional districts in the entire country, he has in many instances undermined his own party’s efforts to halt the GOP agenda, frequently voting against the majority of House Democrats in support of Republican bills and Trump administration positions.

Capital & Main reviewed the 167 votes O’Rourke has cast in opposition to the majority of his own party in the House during his six-year tenure in Congress. Many of those votes were not progressive dissents alongside other left-leaning lawmakers but were instead votes to help pass Republican-sponsored legislation. In many cases, Democratic lawmakers said that those measures were designed to help corporate interests dismantle Obama administration programs and regulations.

O’Rourke’s votes for Republican tax, trade, health care, crime- and immigration-related legislation underscore his membership in the pro-business New Democrat Coalition.
Amid persistently high economic inequality and a climate change crisis, O’Rourke has voted for GOP bills that his fellow Democratic lawmakers said reinforced Republicans’ tax agenda, chipped away at the Affordable Care Act, weakened Wall Street regulations, boosted the fossil fuel industry and bolstered Trump’s immigration policy. Consumer, environmental, public health and civil rights organizations have cast legislation backed by O’Rourke as aiding big banks, undermining the fight against climate change and supporting Trump’s anti-immigrant program. During the previous administration, President Barack Obama’s White House issued statements slamming two GOP bills backed by the 46-year-old Democratic legislator.

O’Rourke’s votes for Republican tax, trade, health care, criminal justice and immigration-related legislation not only defied his national party, but also at times put him at odds even with a majority of Texas Democratic lawmakers in Congress. Such votes underscore his membership in the New Democrat Coalition, the faction of House Democrats most closely aligned with business interests.

It's OK though, he can shuffle across the stage on a skateboard, and gets Suburban Latte Ladies Clubs all hot and bothered. :p

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Beto's voting record is an issue, but he can win so no offense to the Bernie Bros but they can shove off. They dont like him because the Party does unlike Bernie who still wants to have his cake and eat it too.

The uber Lefties just want to burn the party to the ground they dont care who goes with them. If they cant have their Messiah then they want no one which is cute in theory and suicidal in practice.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

The "Bernie Bros" don't like him because there are better options and they actually care about what politicians' actions more than their skin color and other 3rd order qualitative metrics.

100% correct.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

I’m on the Beto train right now and not just because I find him attractive. He’s potentially quite electable, as handy said and that’s important. He’s been a legislator in Texas, so I’m not exactly shocked he’s not running a progressive voting record.
Now, if he runs for higher office and wants to **** on the environmental t, I won’t support him unless he’s the dem nominee.

The Bernie Bros. are quickly becoming the Tea Party of the left, and that's neither a complement nor a good thing.

That's precisely what they've become. "Burn it all down", "Centrists and liberals get the bullet too", etc.

EDIT: Didn't Beto also marry into quite a bit of inherited money? *gasp* The horror! Nevermind "Bougie Bernie" buying his third home though. Nothing to see there, please disperse!

100% correct.

That's also 100% correct.

The dem party is fighting for La Crosse independents that are guaranteed to be in the ballot box. For everyone that switches from Trump to D wipes out two uber lefties that decide not to vote (or an infinite number of them if they're in New England).

One of those two is literally insane and their ideas haven't worked anywhere and the other basically wants what other European countries already have and is proven to be successful. Great comparison

Sure. That's why they helped elect Trump.
They didn't elect Trump anymore than Clinton voters elected McCain.

The other are a bunch of petulant children who think Obama was too conservative and couldn't bring themselves to vote for Hillary when the other option was a metaphorical dumpster fire. They're idiots.

Bernie himself is fine. Bernie Bros. are not. If you can't understand that difference, you're part of the problem.

The handful that voted for Trump are idiots but you could say the same thing about Clinton supporters during Obama’s election and there were far more of them. It’s not something exclusive to Bernie supporters in fact it’s less true for them than centrists.

True. Democrats have to fall in love. It's another factor that gives Republicans power that they should not have.
