Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

"Name a better candidate but you can't say the guy who is a better candidate because I don't think he's a better candidate and also he technically didn't run as a dem for state elections!"

So you dont have one. Just as I thought more worthless posts that go nowhere. You really are a Democrat all platitudes no actual plan.

Are you seriously telling me that Bernie is the only guy in the Democratic Party that can win? Christ even Scooby isnt that pessimistic.

Come on...you can do better. Instead of just tearing down every candidate give us someone we havent mentioned. Any piker with a keyboard can criticize give us a name, someone we dont now. It isnt like we are betting on it or anyone will care a year from now, take a chance and actually offer up something more than snarky reasons you dont like anyone.

Three things are likely in 2020.

1. The Democrats win.
2. I'll be disappointed.
3. I'll have voted for my disappointment.

Not really any pessimism in there. Just being realistic.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI). He literally was born to be president :D

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

I'll say this. If Bernie runs again, he has to do a hell of a lot better job articulating his plans, including how he will pay for them.

He can't just be a senile old crank hollering at the clouds about healthcare and the banksters this time around.

No one has really articulated how the Republicans stole the 23 trillion dollars and why it's important. That's what I want to hear. How about explaining how the 1.5 trillion that was just stolen went straight to shareholders and didn't do anything for the economy? There are a lot of ways to go here.

He'll have to worry about his own supporters from 2016 joining other campaigns, frankly

His ideas merged into the parts of the party where his lane might have younger actual Democrats rather than an 80 year old independent.

The same way we pay for our military every year or trillions of dollars in tax cuts.

My lord can you tapdance...we get it you dont know a name you just dont like anyone else. I think we are done here.
No you literally just don't know how to read because you constantly argue about something completely different than what I actually say in my posts and constantly shift the goalposts. Bernie is a better candidate than Beto, period. That doesn't mean he's the only one that can win, I think just about anyone who isn't Hillary can win.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

No he isnt. I know you desperately hope and pray he is, but he isnt even the best Progressive to run let alone the best overall Democrat. The problems of his last try still exist. He has no plan to pay for anything, he has no way to bridge the gaps he had, he is now even older and he still refuses to join the Party. If another Progressive runs (and one will) Bernie might not finish second. No one m,oved any goalposts I wanted him out of the discussion because we already know his strengths and weaknesses and most likely he isnt going to win the ticket.

You may not like Beto and that is cool...he isnt my first choice by a long shot. But his advantages destroy a lot of the current favorites even with his voting record. His likability is going to put him on the ticket in one of the spots right now if you are a betting man. Hell just basic strategy makes it worth it because Trump will have to spend way more time than usual in Texas making sure they hold true while the Dems go back to Sconnie, Penn and MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECHIGAN to flip them back.

If I was to bet right now Beto ends up VP (which is fine since he isnt giving up a Senate seat or something for the job) and someone we havent thought of will be top of the ticket. Every time I look at a list of the "favorites" I just dont see anyone that jumps out at me. I love Kamala Harris but outside of trolling the Trumpers I am not sure it would work. The rest just kind of register a "meh".

If any Democrat wins in 2020, I'll be happy. Nervous if they're not qualified, but happy.

Happy? Politics will never make me happy. This country is so far gone I won't be around long enough to either see it die or finally fix itself.

Name a more ambitious progressive than him that's even been talked about as a potential candidate. If you think someone more progressive is going to come out of left field and run I'm not entirely discounting that possibility but I feel like we would've heard about it by now.

The problems of his last try still exist. He has no plan to pay for anything, he has no way to bridge the gaps he had,
He has plenty of plans to raise taxes and he can pay for his programs the same way every other president has paid for everything else, so this is laughable and economically illiterate. Nancy Pelosi is that you?

he is now even older and he still refuses to join the Party.
Ageism and a non-relevant talking point.

Yeah I know, as you've said the only thing that matters is being white and a male and that's why he's gonna win except when it's Bernie then those things are bad somehow. Also the vast majority of his likability was being not Ted Cruz which literally anyone other than Hillary can pull off.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Isn’t Beto similar to WJC and Obama where he is young, likable, and has kind of come out of nowhere? Neither of those guys were really on the radar up until they ran. If you look at the Dems who have lost in the last 25 years they profile similar to Biden and Bernie.

Charisma is king in politics. Obama and Bill Clinton had it, Gore, Kerry, and Hillary did not.

I'd sort of agree with that. Young and inspirational seems to be the preference since JFK's day and yes the people who had been around the block for a long time (Mondale, Gore, Kerry and Hillary) had trouble garnering the same affection although it should be noted both Gore and Hillary did win the popular vote. Most Dems this time around not named Sanders or Biden are relative newcomers or unknown on the national stage as the better known governors (Jerry Brown, Andrew Cuomo) aren't running.

So, everybody in as far as the primaries go and may the best person win. I doubt it will be anybody over the age of 60, let alone 70. Oddly enough, the problem Bernie is going to have is a bunch of Dems looking to stick it to him due to his supporters voting FOR Trump enough to put him in the WH. That backlash is going to be costly as well as the holier than thou attitude of his cult members, I mean fans. ;)

Anyone who knows anything about the Vietnam war knows Kerry has charisma. Not sure I'd point to that being the main reason he lost, though admittedly after 9/11 he had an uphill battle vs Bush.

Huh? He had no Charisma. None. And he did not have an uphill battle. The War in Iraq was a disaster by that time. Bush convinced everyone that Kerry wasn't a war hero. He lied and it worked. This coming from a guy that pussed out and joined the guard.
