Did that storm really form in that high a latitude? I didn't think that was possible -- too cold.

As has been commented here for the last few years, they seem to pad the total of named storms. This looks like one of them for this year.

So far this year, 4 of the 5 named storms have not been "tropical". Only Cristobal was tropical for part of its life. They're really padding the stats this year in an attempt to verify all the preseason forecasts for a hyperactive season.
 
Have we been lucky or does the real sh-t usually not start til August?

A massive hurricane landfall right now would just about render FL uninhabitable.
 
Big ones usually later in the season - warmer water=more energy to feed the storm. I’m sure there have been exceptions, but that is the trend.

Not just Florida. Imagine all those COVIDIOTS fleeing into the interior of the Deep South for 7-10 days.
