2020-21 UVM Catamounts: A New Era Begins

I’m also impressed with the video quality at home games.
Agree, it's way better this year. Don't know if it's due to better lighting in the Gut or better camera equipment, but the quality of the picture is much better. I always had trouble following the puck and this year it's pretty much as good as high def TV. And we finally get replays. I have only one small quibble -- there's still no clock showing the time left on a power play or PK.

Agree it would be nice to have the PP clock and I even though I know the bills need to be paid I sorta wish they didn't have the Vermont Mutual and Heritage ads on the bottom sides...I wonder if those sponsors could be made into a new score graphic like you see on NHL broadcasts or TV?

Merrimack this weekend. Sat-Sun series.

Side note, women's team received two votes in the top ten poll this week. Currently riding a 4 game win streak.

UVM site shows all 4 Merrimack games at Merrimack??? Is that accurate? USCHO shows a home and home this weekend.....That doesn't seem likely.

Unfortunately looks like the Women's game is PPD against Maine per USCHO and nothing showing on UVM website for games this weekend.

https://www.eliteprospects.com/awar...20+Nationell+(North)+Best+Face-Off+Percentage

He was the best face off man in the Sweden U20 league last year with 63% win percentage so looks like that's going to be his specialty...I think there was an article about Woodcroft and how he loves centermen who win face offs or that is a big point of emphasis for him...played in the WJC recently too and centered the top line per this preview article https://www.habseyesontheprize.com/...edule-online-live-stream-roster-lines-lineups

Not seen it mentioned but Connor Hutchinson left the team I wonder what happened there? Hopefully everyone gets better and can safely continue playing after this pause but in the meantime big series for the women who are on the cusp of the top 10 rankings vs BC this Sunday and Monday.

UVM has also received a commitment from Isak Walthers, a Swedish winger who was picked by Nashville in 2019 draft. UVM is mining the hell out of the European market early in this regime, as since Woody took over we've gotten:

Raimonds Vitolins (LAT, currently on the team)
Luca Muenzenberger (GER)
Jesper Tarkiainen (FIN)
Jellus (SVK)
Walthers (SWE)

When you're in a smaller market like VT, turning to Europe is a fantastic option for talent (and one that the previous staff really didn't turn to as much as they probably should - the women's team has very much turned to it though), and you can find some real diamonds in the rough. Wiedler's fingerprints all over it too, as AIC's team was like, half European.

Since we don't have any hockey to talk about until after February 4th I see the team has been busy getting more recruits:

Cole Hudson a goalie, plus a former Alaska Anchorage recruit Porter Schachle. It looks like based on birth year these guys will be coming in next season but it is hard to know for the rest because I learned a long time ago they're only on the team when they arrive because the recruiting sites never seem to always get it right.

Both are in their last season of junior so they SHOULD be coming next season.

Hudson has been very impressive for NAHL Shreveport this season and with 2 keepers graduating that was a position of need. Schachle is a big 6'4 forward. His brother Tanner plays for LIU.

The men do not appear to be playing this weekend, the women are returning Tuesday at Merrimack so that's something, hopefully they didn't lose momentum because they were playing really, really well before the pause.

On a men's note, '03 born Swedish goalie Axel Mangbo has committed to the team, per his Instagram. 6'3 playing for Rögle's youth team. Would be UVM's first-ever European goalie on the men's side.

Also, I've taken another gander at the Heisenberg list, more Sneddon era guys are crossed out.

The only ones that appear to still be currently committed are Jack Kurrle, Dylan Finlay, Ronan Walsh, Eli Barnett, Joe Calvarino, and Mario Gasparini.
