It's A Great Day For Hockey
Re: 2019 Frozen Four
On, Wisconsin!
On, Wisconsin!
I thought it was more entertaining than the average UM/UW game, because it was more up tempo. Minnesota didn't play great, but much of that was due to the Badgers. Their back pressure was very good today, so a number of Minnesota's best looks never resulted in a shot. Ultimately, it was a couple of defensive letdowns that sunk the Gophers; not to say that there weren't other miscues on D, but Gulstene was able to save the others. It was a good game, although I’m sure gopher fans would disagree.
Nice to see a close game scoreboard wise. It was a good game, although I’m sure gopher fans would disagree.
Wisconsin moves the puck fast, blocks shooting lanes big time.
Minnesota is a great team, but the passing not the same as the Badgers, and too many individual effort attempts with the hope there might be a rebound etc after.
Crowd could have been better, but btn did a good job.
Maybe visit elementary schools in the area and hand out tickets or something to pack the rink.
Great Badger defence.
Tough to hand out free tickets to a sold out game.Crowd could have been better, but btn did a good job.

Good grief.
The NCAA "gave up" the center ice logo in Madison last weekend for the Wisconsin/Syracuse NCAA Quarterfinal. The usual Flying W was in place. I don't recall an NCAA center ice logo at any of the other quarterfinal sites either. But if they were there, no marketing was accomplished with me; I have absolutely no memory of them. You're telling me this is a sacred cow? It isn't. Flexibility is possible. The NCAA got 100% of the space on the boards at LaBahn. The rink looked perfectly fine as a playoff site.
BTW, I attended the Boston FF you mentioned. Whoever made the decision to breach contractual terms and leave the Bruins' logo in place was wrong to do so. Quite honestly it was refreshing that someone challenged the NCAA on this. Again, though, they chose the wrong means.
I still have not seen it anywhere: does anyone know who made the all-tourney team? Campbell and Pankowski, obviously. Roque? Shaver? Schammel? A full Badger sweep?
Never say never! But you've mostly really come around. The NCAA is often rigid, and change comes at a glacial pace. But just as you now describe, pragmatic decisions are possible. You never see the center ice logo for a pre Frozen Four game when held on a campus site. The NCAA understands that’s too much work. You will see them at the men’s regionals this weekend,
But for a Frozen Four, they rightfully demand it. It’s great marketing.
Boston probably missed one turn to host, thus doubling the wait time. And it cost them hosting Frozen Fours for a very long time.
Of course.A contract is a contract. If you don’t like it, don’t sign the contract.

IIRC, the Bruins played on the off day or on Sunday and the Garden didnt have the time to change logos.
Lots of work goes into preparing a bid, so losing a round hurts. No doubt about it. But it's perfectly normal to have to bid more than once to get a tournament. IMHO, the real issue is the number of years between tournaments awarded. They were rejected twice. So, they missed two cycles.
It's likely that the only way it will change is if the required signage would have a negative effect on a football or men's BB game. Even then, I doubt that the NCAA cares as long as a lot of ads can be sold to Geico and Pepsi Co.I've seen parts of two NCAA men's games today at two different sites, and both games the broadcasters have mentioned the not-great condition of the ice - soft, snowy, bumpy, taking extra time to 'set up' between periods, etc.
Of course, both ice sheets are recently installed, to be able to get 'NCAA' and tournament logos in place. Because the logos are the important part of the whole thing...
