2019-20 D-III games / scores

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores

Honestly, the numbers don't really translate. Playing on a terrible team requires an entirely different mindset as a goalie [i.e. me against the world] that doesn't translate into 'normal' games where one mistake is the difference between winning and losing, whereas you have zero pressure when you're expected to lose 10-0.

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores

GAC is on a European tour and today defeated the Austrian National Team by a score of 3-2, per their Instagram. It did not specify which level they faced. Based on the Austrian Ice Hockey site they faces the U18 team.

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores

Bowdoin's New Year's Women's Hockey Classic opened the 2020 half of DIII today

In the neutral game Manhattanville was able to come back from a 2-0 deficit by tying it up 2/3 of the way through the third period, but Williams is able to escape with the victory when Amanda Reisman scored the game winner with only 1:26 left on the clock.

In game 2, host Bowdoin outshot Trinity in the first and scored early in the second but Trinity would turn it up, outshooting their hosts in the 2nd and 3rd (the period where they would knot it up at 1). Trinity would outshoot the Polar Bears in OT, but it was only by taking advantage of a Bowdoin gamble that the Bantams won. Bowdoin had a faceoff in Trinity's zone with 4 seconds left in OT so they pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. The Trinity center Delaney won the draw and fed it to Capone who saucered it down the ice. Per the game recap, the puck crossed the goal line as the buzzer sounded. Trinity wins 2-1.

Trinity vs Williams is the early game Friday despite being the winners (game will not count in the NESCAC despite being from the same conference) and Bowdoin vs Manhattanville is the late game.

Also on Friday:

Team China @ UW-Eau Claire - 1 PM ET
UMB @ Nichols at Warrior Ice Arena (Bruins practice facility/Boston Pride home ice) - 5:30 PM ET.
SNC @ Hamline - 6:30 PM ET
Lake Forest vs Bethel (@ Hamline's home ice of TRIA Rink). - 8:00 PM ET.

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores

Norwich leads Plattsburgh 2-1 after 20 minutes.

Very entertaining hockey game.

Cardinals score 3 goals in a little over minute in the second to make it 4-2.

The refs are very relaxed through the first two periods. Hope they at least stay consistent in the third and don't pull a 180 and start calling every little thing...

EDIT: The refs did start blowing the whistle in the 3rd but nothing seemed unearned. Final score was 6-3. A real team effort from Plattsburgh to come back. On the Norwich side Amanda Conway was involved in all 3 goals scored by the Cadets.

In other action,

Endicott is a few minutes away from taking both games from Hamilton.
Buffalo State shuts out host Castleton 2-0 in the third place game of the Castleton Invititational. Canton takes on Northland in the championship.
The second game of the East-West between Adrian and Elmira will be starting shortly.

Consolation game Norwich -Elmira tie
Championship game ......Plattsburgh 4 - Adrian 1 I believe that is the first power play scored against the cardinals this year!

Yes, that is their first PPG allowed, though I can think of two goals this year (one against Potsdam and one against River Falls) where the opponent scored seconds after the PP expired so they might as well have been PPGs. First PPG allowed aside, I thought this was some of their best hockey this season, particularly today. Great to see them come back twice against a ranked team and then the next day take a lead and hold on to it after a tough game the previous day.

The officiating had me scratching my head a little in that they let a lot go from both sides in all games. It was at least even, except for when Plattsburgh got called seconds after they let an egregious hit by an Adrian player slide. On the whole I thought the officiating was an example of the stark differences I've seen in how Eastern and Western region refs call games between the power teams.

All Tournament Team was:

Elizabeth Hanson - G - Elmira
Jacquelin White - F - Adrian
Amanda Conway - F - Norwich
Madison Walker - F - Plattsburgh
Nicole Unsworth - F - Plattsburgh
Ashley Davis - G - Plattsburgh

MVP was Sierra Benjamin, defender from Plattsburgh.

Great job on the tourney by Norwich, particularly the quality of their web stream visually and the call by commentator Tanner Acebo (sp?).

Thank you Scott!

Tanner is a rock star and we're very lucky to have him. What people didn't probably realize is we were shorthanded all weekend with the students on break for these four games as well as the men's tournament the previous two days and we had Tanner not only calling the game, but he was also producing it, updating the scoreboard, graphics and doing replays. Not many people could pull off that multi-task but he does it very well!

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores

Colby's loss to UMB last night knocked them out of the top of the PWR. Plattsburgh is now #1 followed by Midd and GAC. Colby is now #4 followed by Endicott, Eau Claire, Norwich, Adrian, Elmira and River Falls finishing up the top 10.

Also in Tuesday night action, Hamilton rebounded from being swept by Endicott this past weekend by handing Nazareth their second loss of the season by a 3-2 score, out-shooting Naz by 20 shots. Junior forward Kate Piacenza with two points for Hamilton.

Today's games are: USM @ St. Michael's, King's @ Oswego, Morrisville @ Plattsburgh, Canton @ Utica and Marian @ Stevens Point.

I remember days like that working games on winter break as a student assistant in the SID office, it's always tough with less hands. Very quick thinking when he used that top part of the graphic to display the shootout score.

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores

Good night for the NEWHL.

Plattsburgh wins 5-1, with an additional three pucks that went over line called no goal. This was the best the fourth line and extra skater has looked for Plattsburgh all season.

Oswego shuts out King's 9-0, with all goals coming from their top 6.

Canton shuts out Utica 3-0, with top LW Parigi scoring 2 of 3 goals.

In action not relating to the Pseud-NYAC, USM and St. Michael's skated to a 1-1 tie and Stevens Point is up 7-0 on Marian after 2 periods. 3 of Stevens Point's skaters are looking for one more for the hat trick in the final frame.

Enjoyed watching UWS upset Gustavus online tonight. First game I’ve watched in a while.

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores

Some interesting action today:

- Becker beat NEC 5-3 an 88-shot slugfest that was iced when NEC blew a chance to tie on the power play by conceding a shorty. Puumala for Becker led with 4 points.

- Hamilton can't extend their winning streak to 3, as Bowdoin wins 4-3.

- Middlebury continues to roll, snapping Endicott's 9-game winning streak with a 3-0 win. Endicott had also won their last 4 games against the NESCAC prior to the loss. Panther foes should watch out if they're heading into their game with a head of steam, as Middlebury has now snapped two long winning streaks this season. The Panthers lead NCAA DIII women in defense.

- Amherst defeats Conn College 2-1 in a low-powered affair that only saw 31 total shots between the two teams. Similarly, Colby defeated Wesleyan 2-1, with all scoring wrapped up by 1:47 into the second period and only penalties the rest of the way.

- River Falls beat Bethel 6-3 with Abigail Stow getting the hat-trick.

- In a battle to see who is the better Scranton/Wilkes Barre team, Wilkes defeats King's by erasing a 2-0 deficit with 3 third-period goals, with the game-winner coming with 7 seconds left in regulation.

- Augsburg defeats Superior 4-1 in a game that for being heavy on penalties was low on power play goals.

- Williams took a trip to Connecticut and left with the W, beating Trinity 3-0. Halloran and Montembeault with 2 points each.

- Nichols and Castleton skated to a 1-1 tie.

- In a rematch of the East/West Classic third place game, Elmira hosted Norwich, and defeated them 3-1. Only minutes after conceding the lead to the Soaring Eagles, the Cadets took a bench minor for too many players and Elmira took advantage to extend their lead.

A few blowouts:

- Cortland dropped Neumann 8-2 on a the back of a hatty from Grace Schnorr among 5 PPGs.

- Trine came east to Chatham and beat the Cougars 6-1 which included 2 ENGs after what looks like Coach O'Grady deciding to selectively pull the goalie with ~ 6 minutes left down 4-1.

- Plattsburgh beat Buffalo State 6-0 despite outstanding goaltending from freshman Soleil Archambeault. Cardinal forward Unsworth paces with 3 points.

- St. Benedict defeated Finlandia 5-0.

- Eau Claire defeated Lake Forest 6-1.

- Manhattanville beats Salem State 6-0.

St. Catherine had to cancel their non-conference match with Concordia (WI) due to "technical problems at the arena". They announced the game would not be rescheduled.

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores

After entering the new year with a 10-1-0 record, the women from Norwich have fallen to 0-3-1 in 2020, most recently losing 4-1 to Amherst. With the loss, the Cadets slip all the way to No. 14 in the PWR. There’s still a lot of hockey left to be played, but what is going on in Northfield?

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores

Plattsburgh 3-1 over Oswego. Second straight close game these teams have had since the 7-1 blowout in their first matchup of the season.

The announcers noted that Oswego HC Diane Dillon was absent from the bench and Associate HC Digby was leading the Lakers tonight.

Edit: The sports editor for the Oswego student paper interviewed Digby after the game and reported on Twitter that HC Dillon is recovering from the flu.

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores

There's a handful of games this week that may have significant impact on seeding/hosting in the NCAA tourney:

Tonight: Middlebury @ Plattsburgh - 7PM ET
Friday 1/24 and Saturday 1/25: Colby @ Middlebury (7PM ET and 3:00 PM ET respectively) and St. Thomas vs GAC (@GAC 7:00 PM CT on Fri and @UST 2:00 PM CT on Sat)

If the season ended today this would be the field assuming today's conference winners win AQs and seeded 1-10 based on PWR:
1 Plattsburgh (Pool A)
2 Middlebury (Pool A)
3 UW-Eau Claire (Pool C)
4 Endicott (Pool A)
5 Colby (Pool C)
6 GAC (Pool A)
7 Elmira (Pool A)
8 UW-River Falls (Pool C)
9 Adrian (Pool A)
10 Norwich (Pool A)

First Round
Norwich @ Colby
River Falls @ GAC

Quarters:

Norwich/Colby @ Plattsburgh
Endicott @ Middlebury
GAC/River Falls @ Eau Claire
Adrian @ Elmira

Would be an interesting tournament for sure if it turns out that way. I think some Plattsburgh fans would complain that if Norwich beats Colby and plays Plattsburgh while Midd hosts Endicott they're getting the short end of the stick but a championship team has to beat whoever is in front of them...

Re: 2019-20 D-III games / scores

I came up with a few differences from you... here's my take as of right now...

1 Plattsburgh (Pool A)
2 Middlebury (Pool A)
3 UW-Eau Claire (Pool C) (3 PWR)
4 Endicott (Pool A)
5 Colby (Pool C) (5 PWR)
6 GAC (Pool C ) (6 PWR)
7 Adrian (Pool A)
8 Norwich (Pool A)
9 St. Thomas (Pool A)
10 Manhattanville (Pool A)

This gets interesting with no Elmira. There will be a flight in the QF round (assuming they want to avoid a first round flight, which could necessitate another in the QF round)

First Round
Manhattanville @ Endicott
Norwich @ Colby

Quarters:

Norwich/Colby @ Plattsburgh
Manhattanville/Endicott @ Middlebury
St, Thomas @ Eau Claire
Adrian @ GAC

This would be an interesting tournament to put down on paper. Is there a way to have one of the first round games out west (where the seeds are lower (St. Thomas @ GAC) and have the winner play Eau Claire while Adrian is flown east (against Plattsburgh) for a QF match? Things will obviously change. The biggest change would be in the UCHC where if Elmira gets back on top, this whole exercise gets a lot easier!

Good catch regarding the field. But if the field is as in your post, I think they should go with St. Thomas @ GAC (9 @ 6) instead of Norwich @ Colby (8 @ 5) for the second first round game.
