2018 USA Olympic Women's Hockey Team

Re: 2018 USA Olympic Women's Hockey Team

It certainly is a fact that they are ex-Gophers. Whether or not the twins would want more of a "presence on the walls at Ridder" I'm not so sure. As for the call of the Siren only they could answer whether it was initially emanating from Grand Forks or Vancouver.

Two of the most indelible memories I have of Ridder Arena are of Natalie Darwitz circling around on the power play with the puck looking to pass to Wendell or Stephens and also of the Lams rushing up the rink with the puck into the offensive zone along with whoever their left wing might be for that game. They probably should have won a national championship if it weren't for a nasty case of food poisoning and okay maybe Meghan Agosta.

My indelible memory was of Lam on the high umbrella on the PP & Kessel making her look like a chump as she blew past to score shorthanded in an NCAA playoff game.

If #21 is your best player than she needs to play like it.

USA played well enough and if your going to lose a game than this is the one.

Also how did the linesman miss Canada being offside? That was pretty obvious watching it live.

USA can work with that effort. I feel better than I did going into the game.

Just gotta win the last one.

I remember that play as well and typically J Lam getting called for a penalty on the play. Kessel provided countless indelible memories for Gopher fans. One of mine would be of her winning a battle for the puck with Poulin and then firing it into the open net for the final goal of the 2013 season. Fortunately it was not the final goal of her Gopher career.

If they miss them at the NHL level, they can miss them anywhere.

Better question is why didn't the USA challenge the play.

In an interview after the game Stauber said something like they had looked at the play and decided there wasn't enough evidence that it would be overturned. They should have let the officials review the play and decide what the evidence showed. Is there a penalty for a failed challenge in Olympic hockey?

Re: 2018 USA Olympic Women's Hockey Team

Kessel has been dead weight so far. She is not playing like she used to.

Kessel and Knight are not what we've seen in the past. Not so surprised about Kessel given her injury history, but Knight is a shocker. The Knight/Decker/Coyne line has not much chemistry.

Officiating is horrific. There was more contact in that game than the US men's game. Call the game like it supposed to be played.

Re: 2018 USA Olympic Women's Hockey Team

Why was JLam effing around with a between the legs showboat move on a penalty shot down 2 against Canada in the Olympics

Re: 2018 USA Olympic Women's Hockey Team

The better team did not win this one but it is not the one that counts. My take on game 2

USA 4 Canada 1 ;)

Yes. If you fail on an offsides challenge, you get a delay of game penalty.

Failed goal challenges just lose you a time out.

What?? That can't be right...

EDIT: Holy crap you're right, that's asinine. The challenge is to overturn a goal in the first place, why should it be any different of a challenge than a goaltender interference challenge? Just charge them with a timeout and get on with it. That's nuts...

Re: 2018 USA Olympic Women's Hockey Team

Yeah that line was a handful for Canada . Loved the bank pass by Coyne that sprung Knight in alone in the first period. Knight scoring there would have been yuuge.

Same with the Decker play along the boards and the feed to Coyne in the Finland game. That was was, as the kids say, "lit."

Shouldn't the NBC TV announcers have known that, and explained it to us all? They went on and on about how offside the play was (I didn't think it was clear-cut at all, and likely would not have been overturned).
