2018-2019 Division I Commitments

Re: 2018-2019 Division I Commitments

Well, with the Gophers out of town, this would be the weekend to do it. (LINK) All of the local future recruits will be in Blaine.
All of local future recruits plus those from SSM, Chicago area, St. Louis, Wisconsin and Michigan. I count 24 teams in all; is that a record for the NIT Tournament?

Re: 2018-2019 Division I Commitments

Re: 2018-2019 Division I Commitments

are these girls crazy? there are only so many open spots on the roster. do they understand a lot will not be dressing or playing?
are the other conference schools that bad where MN gets them all? I highly doubt it.
crazy.

Re: 2018-2019 Division I Commitments

From Iceburg on GPL

2018
D Crystalyn Hengler (Eden Prairie)
F Emily Oden (Edina)
D Gracie Ostertag (Shattuck 16u) from Shakopee
F Catie Skaja (New Prague)

Holy crap...The Gophers have 13 U18 recruits from the US and Canada coming in the next three years with Oden's commitment. All ten recruits for 2017 and 2018 are U18 players

That is some crazy roster stashing stuff right there. ;)

the bench as well as the stands will have some really good players. if their life long dream is to sit on the Gophers Bench or in the "heralded" rink, then some will fulfill that dream.

Hopefully I'll be around to see if these players spend their college career on the bench or watching from the stands. I'm unconvinced your saying so makes it a foregone conclusion though.

Truth is, yours and Hockeysbest complaints sound more like butthurt than anything else. Never quite understood the propensity for questioning and second guessing the decisions of players and commitments. How is anything related to those decisions the business of observers in this forum? If such a decision turns out to be regrettable or a mistake it's theirs to own. People are allowed to make mistakes...right?

What is the basis for presuming one knows better than the future student athlete themselves regarding their choices for how / where they spend their college careers? I have honestly always been puzzled by these implications.

Boom...Now 14 U18 recruits from the USA and Canada coming in the next three years and all 11 recruits for 2017 and 2018 are U18 players! I guess the odds were good they were going to get at least one of the remaining three uncommitted players since they were all from Minnesota. ;)

It's like teeing it up for a Hockeysbest rant. :D

I think it's extremely magnanimous of the Gopher staff in an effort to provide Hockeysbest with quality posting material.

By my count, Minnesota will have 15 forwards, 8 defense and 3 goalies next year. Unless my count is off, I suspect you will be around long enough to see a bunch of kids in the crowd and another handful on the bench.

Hey I will bite :D.

So we have Minny on the mens side of hockey leading the charge on the “age limit” proposal, which would prevent schools from taking 21-year-old freshmen and guaranteeing them four years of NCAA eligibility. The vast majority of coaches — a recent straw poll showed it at 49 against and only 11 for — think it's a bad proposal advanced by the Big Ten, and spearheaded by Lucia's Minnesota, because of the competitive disadvantage they now feel for themselves.

I think on the women's side the CHA coaches should sponsor a proposal to limit the number of U18 recruits from the USA and Canada to lets say no more than 5 spread across any 4 recruiting classes. After all, with Minnesota gobbling up these all star recruits like swine at the pigs trough it really puts them and all of women's college hockey at a competitive disadvantage ;) . I will bet you the vast majority of coaches (well maybe not Wisconsin  ) would support this.

And while we're throwing out cockamamie ideas, there should be a rule that no team can have more than two Canadians on their roster at any one time. I will bet you the vast majority of coaches (well maybe not Clarkson  ) would support this.

UofM Men's hockey with Lucia? Honestly have lost interest in that program.

I guess it is nice that other posters are concerned for the well being of Minnesota's future recruits.;)

I just think it funny given the past rants of HB that this information could possibly make his/her head explode like the folks on the Jet.com commercials. :)

This idea is not so crazy. Why not limit it to the number of Americans allowed on CIS rosters? I have no idea if there are any rules on that or how many that is but it seems only fair. I would be that there are a number of players who fall in the crack between D1 & D3 who would be interested in playing in the CIS, especially with the favorable exchange rate.

There are no limits on the number of Americans (or citizens of any other country for that matter) who can play on CIS men's or women's hockey teams. The only sports where there are limits on the number of foreign athletes are basketball (maximum 3) and volleyball (maximum 2).

That answers that question. Then I would not be in favor on a limit on Canadians.

Re: 2018-2019 Division I Commitments

given that of the top ten scorers only one is Canadian, and she only scores because of her line mates , there is no need to limit Canadians
