2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

And St. Thomas runs the playoff table to pretty much destroy the NCAA hopes of all the other MIAC schools - 3-2 OT

West rankings will be a disaster. I know we'll never see them but it'd be interesting to see. Will they rank a 14-10 St Thomas team? If they don't rank St Thomas, nothing really changed. Middlebury loses and they very likely get the other Pool C with Elmira. They win I wouldn't be shocked to see Endicott in the NCAAs.

Actually the rankings are supposed to be released Monday after the bracket is announced.

So if both River Falls and Adrian win their quarterfinal games, Adrian would be favored to host based on them being ranked higher regionally, right?

You would assume so. ITs hard to say who will come out on top there. Adrian's SOS should take a hit for playing Lake Forest while River Falls might go up. I sort of expect Lake Forest to drop out of the rankings, which in turn would hurt Adrian again. If St Thomas replaces Lake Forest that would take away most of Adrian's wins against ranked opponents. While adding a couple to River Falls.

Assuming Eau Claire stays ranked that would make River Falls 5-2 and Adrian 1-2 (I'm not sure if Utica stays ranked out east...so maybe 2-2.).

That would definitely swing things In River Falls favor. They have the same record, same record with common opponents, River Falls wins SOS and then would win RNK

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

Does the facility at Adrian qualify considering that it has a capacity limit of 500?

The attendance for yesterday's Adrian/Lake Forest game was 815. The men's game attendance was noted as a "sellout" with 915. So it seats 500 but has much more "standing" room. I'm sure its an issue though

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

So if Middlebury pulls this out, is Gustavus the 8th team or does Eau Claire sneak in there in since Endicott choked?

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

Caveat: the Men's Championship manual says that the final rankings will be published. The Women's equivalent has no such added language.

Let's flip it...What's good for the gander is good for the goose ??? I can't imagine they would release one and not the other.

I think Endicott losing helps them out. The NCAA, I'm sure, wanted 4 western teams considering the finals will be in the west. With the results of the weekend, if Endicott had won today, they probably would have been the criteria favorite as the 8th team. Now with them losing the criteria favors a western team. So releasing them won't "hide" anything.

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

Why isn't Lake Forest still in consideration? The system seems a bit flawed when a team that has been ranked in the top 10 all year suddenly is knocked out due to ONE loss to a team other than Adrian? Why isn't the ENTIRE season looked at for all teams, rather than just their wins against ranked teams in the last week of the season?

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

Middlebury wins the NESCAC. 4-1 over Amherst.

Pool A (automatic bid) teams are:

Plattsburgh (ECAC West)
St. Thomas (MIAC)
Adrian (NCHA)
Norwich (NEHC)
Middlebury (NESCAC)

pretty much a lock for Pool B:
UW-River Falls

I think for Pool C:
Elmira
UW-Eau Claire

The Top 10 rankings all year don't have any bearing on the committee. Those are just coach/SID polls. Lake Forest doesn't make it because in the regional rankings they sit behind Augsburg and UW-Eau Claire. I think with this weekend that UW-Eau Claire jumps Augsburg who lost to an unranked St. Thomas. With only 8 bids and only 2 Pool C bids with one all but assuredly going to Elmira I don't think LF can jump both of those teams. Eau Claire far outshines both Augsburg and Lake Forest in SOS

Go here for the explanation: http://www.d3hockey.com/bracketology/women/2017/womens-ncaa-tournament-selection-process

I have to agree with you.

Re: 2017 Women's D-III NCAA Selection Thread

Thanks for the explanation. Eau Claire and Lake Forest have almost identical SOS. Eau Claire has 7 losses to teams other than RF and a tie against Marian. Seems to be a flawed system but it is what it is.

How does Eau Claire jump ahead of Gustavus? Gustavus won its conference. Eau Claire did not win Conference or Playoffs. Gustavus won head to head this season.

Criteria before weekend

WIN SOS RNK
Elmira .7690 .5720 .3125 (1-4-3)
Endicott .8910 .4660 .0000 (0-1-0)
Utica .6480 .5630 .0714 (0-6-1)
Lake Forest .7960 .4730 .0000 (0-3-0)
Gustavus Adolphus .7120 .5200 .5000 (3-3-0)
UW-Eau Claire .6600 .5180 .4285 (3-4-0)
