Re: 2017 MLB Season - The Goat Memorial Thread

Let the Twins selling begin:

Report: Twins agree to trade Jaime Garcia to Yankees
Michael BradburnJul 30 2017, 7:56 AM
With rumors swirling in the small hours of Sunday morning that the Minnesota Twins would trade Jaime Garcia, the New York Yankees have reportedly reached an agreement to acquire the 31-year-old left-hander according to a report from Jon Heyman of FanRag.

Pretty good turn around for the Twins. Garcia was a rental for the rest of the season, and the Twins were able to get a Lefty reliever (Dietrich Enns) who has been strong in Triple A, and a solid Right-handed starter (Zack Littell) who has torn up the minor leagues this year (14-1, 1.87 ERA). Both could easily find themselves in the major leagues in the next couple seasons. With the Twins on the verge of dropping out of playoff contention, this was a really good deal for the club.

Adrian Beltre: 3,000 hits.

Albert Pujols is on the clock, 89 hits away.

Earl Weaver is the god of cussing in baseball

I wonder what Billy Martin was like.

In the days before technology allowed us to hear so much, the language must have been pretty entertaining.

Martin seems to me somebody who would be quantity, not quality. Ted was apparently a master at the proper turn of phrase. It wasn't just f-bombs with him, it was poetry and similes.

We have lapsed since the Heroic Age. It may be because the greats of yesteryear were blue collar, and all true geniuses of obscenity come from the working class, where cursing isn't ironic, it's sincere.

Competitive profanity needs to be made into a professional sport. We must recapture this art and create new legends.

OTOH, we are probably in the Golden Age of Spanish Obscenity. Another reason I regret having only one language.

A move Terry Ryan would of never done.

WGN is reporting that Steve Bartman is going to get a 2016 World Series ring.

Perhaps. Ryan did make some really good moves in his time as GM, particularly in his first stint.

Rumors are swirling that the Twins are going to trade Brandon Kintzler. Given that his contract is up at the end of the season, might be a good move, particularly with Glen Perkins potentially coming back next season.

Yanks land Gray, 1.5m in Intl pool money from the A's, send Fowler, Mateo, and Kaprelian back. 2 of those 3 prospects have season ending injuries.

If true, good. That man has gone through so much abuse at the hands of that fanbase. Great end to a horrific story.

Not too bad of a pickup. Watson is a 20 year old Lefty, currently in Single A (6-4, 4.35 ERA, 9.5 K/9). Probably at least a few years away from the majors, but someone to keep an eye on.

Gio Gonzalez with nothing interesting at all in the ninth, right now.
