2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season: Non-Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

Re: 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season: Non-Minnesotans arguing about the weather...

I can't wrap my head around the amount of rain this storm has dumped...

1 inch of liquid rain is about equivalent to 10 inches of uncompressed fallen snow.

Houghton gets 150-200 inches of snow or so a year. (The all time record is 355.9 inches in 1978-79.)

Looking at it that way, Houston has received the equivalent of two Tech winters' worth of water in 4 days.

This is why I laugh when people criticize NIMBY. NIMBY means your kids don't grow up with two heads.

NIMBY generally means we don't care where it goes just not near me. The nimbies (is that a word?) will still demand, buy the product.

Heard on the radio this morning from a respected meteorogolist that with the amount of water Houston already has and the amount that's yet to come, given the size of the city, it's enough water to fill every NFL and Division I football stadium, and still have water leftover. Wow. Don't know how true it is though, but that's massive.

This is actually a case where NIMBY is appropriate. Zoning laws shouldn't allow plants that process large amounts of highly energetic material. This is basic city planning.

SOmething like a windmill? Kindly shut the **** up.

bigblue_dl posted this on one my Facebook posts: https://twitter.com/JJWatt

JJ Watt had pledged to match every dollar donated to his charity to help Houston. It's at $4.25 million right now and he's figuratively doubled down on his match commitment. His new goal is $5 million.

This will probably turn up as fake too, but incredible if it isn't:

Edit: Looks to be real or this is one HELL of a good edit job on the video

It wouldn't surprise me, that area has been getting hit hard for past 24-36 hours or so.

Looks like we are past the rain finally. Had a sunset this evening, first we have really seen the sun since Thursday night.

Water levels look like they are starting to recede. I would guess we peaked around 7-8' above normal. I hope I never live to see in the neighborhood of 4 feet of rain in less than a week ever again. Incredibly fortunate that I never felt I was in a dangerous situation, so many others can't say the same.

Grandmother in Arlington checking on her daughter in Beaumont gets help from 9-1-1 in Beaumont Alberta.

“It’s the Canadian way.” :)

True. But NIMBY also means that we're not storing nuclear waste in Nevada like we should. And that's bad. And the place in Nevada isn't even anyone's backyard but NIMBY turned into not in my State.

What happens if one of these coastal Nuclear Plants with all these spent rods gets hit by one of these storms like this chemical plant is in Houston?

Which is why I am not defending NIMS.

Shoot the waste into the sun.

Shoot the waste into the sun.

We're going to find a use for it eventually. Petroleum started out as a waste product. So did plastic.

I vote until then we spread word that the Bible never mentions "radiation." The slave states will assume atomic theory is a liberal plot and start hosting dump sites.

This will solve many problems.
