2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Ready or not, here we come!!

I believe if Brazil and Iraq tie their games versus Denmark and South Africa with the same scores, it will go to a drawing of lots to decide who goes thru to the knockout stage.

Kazakhstan with an upset win, first ever swimming gold.

NBC: *zooms and focuses on USA silver medalist for 20 seconds*

You and I both know that the olympics are nothing like they were almost 40 years ago.

I'd have to think the Asian market is rather huge for TV. Yes, USA drives the Olympics, but they'd survive with the Asians.

It makes sense to me? WTH does the average American viewer care about a swimmer from Kazakhstan? To that point, I think it was their first ever swimming medal period, let alone gold medal.

And further to your point, they didn't entirely ignore him with the camera. He was shown hugging the Ruskie in the lane next to him (also a medalist), panned to the American, then back to the 'Stan.

Not something to make mountains out of mole hills about at all.

You actually think any of the Asian stations are paying north of $7 billion for broadcasting rights?

Um, I was kind of saying that. The US drives the Olympics, but for viewership (and therefore dollars) the Olympics wouldn't die. Less prominent? God yes. Dead? No.

Oh stop it. Without the US the IOC would wither and die. The olympics would be viewed like the Paralympics today. Completely irrelevant. Commonwealth games, whatever the Prince Harry games are, etc.

The Olympics are he world's way of allowing the US to bribe them and continue saying "WE'RE #1!"

Keep going on with your bad self. Paralympics aren't dead. They just aren't the Olympics.

Sitting with a stopwatch and watching every sportscast in America to make sure they don't show too much Olympics footage must suck.

A friend of mine had a tweet showing the start of Aly Raisman's floor routine that went viral with over 30K retweets. She was forced to delete it after her vine account was suspended. Fortunately none of my posts have gone viral so I am still under the radar.

Without the US (and China and Russia) the Olympics would be what they were intended to be.

Bigger is rarely better. All the $7B did was turn it into yet another money pump for sponsors while completely destroying the amateur ethic, and a circle jerk for the super powers to pet themselves.

Ban the Big Three. Everybody else will be a lot better off.

Even though Americans are famously parochial and ignorant of other countries, it still makes sense for NBC to turn the Olympics into homer coverage even if they meant well. What's the actual American audience for the Olympics? Say 50M. Of those, how many are watching it as a dick measuring contest? 90% or more. The network has to make their $7B back and they do it by selling brainwashed boobs to advertisers.

The only reason the Canadian and UK broadcasts are better is they have less money to buy domination in more sports, so you wind up with a larger percentage of "non-partisan" events. But watch TSN cover Olympic hockey and it's wall-to-wall "Oh Canada."

The price of evolving from apes is most haven't.

You can't make this stuff up!

@mihirsv: Reuters reports Kenya #athletics coach John Anzrah has been sent home from #Rio2016 after he posed as athlete & gave urine sample

Shouldn't that mean the athlete who was supposed to take the drug test is automatically disqualified?

Aly Raismans parents could possibly be the most annoying thing on tv
