2016 Pairwise Calculator

Re: 2016 Pairwise Calculator

Fair point. It really does seem like the stars are aligned for BC to win it all this year as they are pretty much a lock for the #1 seed.

I came up with a new formula that explains how BC is still undefeated.
I threw in all of the opponents, their RPI, KRACH, USA Today poll, SOS, USCHO poll, coaches poll, players poll, , Zamboni driver's poll, WCHA attendance and finally the ECAC ref's poll and came up with the following formula;

BC vs opponent with Grant absent = undefeated.

it was his presence that accounted for the losses all along.

I started a go fund me page to come up with some money to send him to NASCAR for the next 3 weekends. any takers?

If the top seeds win, Princeton is still in good shape to get in. I don't remember a (women's) team missing the conference semis and still making the NCAAs before.

Can 't see how . If you look common opponents in Ecac final four . Quinnipiac ,st Lawrence and clarkson. Princeton has a tie vs Qu and OTW vs St L and 4 losses.Colgate has only one loss vs Clarkson, 3 wins and and 2 ties in the other games.

Re: 2016 Pairwise Calculator

Wouldn't that be something!

It's not a totally crazy thought....the sue have beat both UM and UW, UMD has not, but they are still dangerous, though not as dangerous as BSU. The odds of UMD or the sue getting through both M and UW are slim.

I like it. If he'll take me along to one of the summer races (after March 20), I might contribute.
(Emphasis on "might".)

Those odds came into play for Bemidji last year and it did them in.

I would consider funding some kind of a ride (Uber/Limo/Bus, depending on how far away he is) to get him to North Andover this weekend. :)

I know you're joking, but oh my God, do you have any idea how bad their record is when I'm there vs. when I'm not over the last couple years?

Last year I was at 2 of the 3 losses and 1 of the 2 ties. The only other games I went to were 1 of the games against Cornell and the quarterfinal against Clarkson. So last year they were 2-2-1 when I went and 31-1-1 when I didn't.

The year before I don't remember how many games I went to, but the record was similar, and one of the games I was at was the nightmare 2-0 loss at UConn.

Amazingly, I think I've only gone to one game all year and it was the game BU took us to overtime. Maybe one or two others, tops, I don't remember.

I am seriously tempting fate the rest of the year, because starting at the WHEA final I will be at every game.

The rest of their games count, too. Aside from Princeton sweeping the two head-to-head games, Colgate shouldn't have lost to Mercyhurst or Merrimack. That would have helped their chances a lot.

Re: 2016 Pairwise Calculator

I think the field is set (almost)
1. BC has clinched and will host Mercyhurst
2. Winner of Minny/Wisconsin
3. Loser of above
4. Winner of Clarkson/Quinnipiac
5. Loser of above
6. Northeastern
7. Princeton unless BU wins WHEA
8. Mercyhurst

Actually if BC wins Hockey East, the Eagles will probably get Princeton. The Tigers can bus to Boston; Mercyhurst has to fly either way, so they would get sent to face whoever is No. 2, Minnesota or Wisconsin, and Northeastern would get sent to play whoever is No. 3. I could also see them deciding to fly Princeton and avoid a long bus ride there and send Northeastern to BC, which would truly suck. And if BU wins Hockey East, the Terriers would play the Eagles next week.

No chance of NU coming to BC. The committee has shown in the past that the length of the bus ride does not matter more than bracket integrity.

There are only two directives: 1) minimize flights, and once flights are minimized, 2) they will keep bracket integrity as long as it does not increase the number if flights.

The field is pretty close to set, but it will definitely be:

(7) BU/PU @ (1) BC
(8) MU @ (2) WCHA champion
(6) NU @ (3) WCHA runner up
(5) ECAC runner up @ (4) ECAC champion

I'm surprised that I haven't heard any moaning from the Eastern time zone about the fact that there will be at least one and possibly two intra-conference match-ups in the quarterfinal round. Of course, even if there was a complaint, my reply as the fan of a WCHA team would be "Welcome to our world." :p

They should send Clarkson/Quinnipiac loser to Madison or Minneapolis, and send Northeastern to play the winner. Instead of 3-vs-6 and 4-vs-5, it would be 3-vs-5 and 4-vs-6, but no intra-conference. And no worse travel in toto.

Not going to happen unfortunately.

Next year they're putting up a big wall around the ECAC and HockeyEast and the WCHA and CHA is going to pay for it. Believe me. And it's going to be a big wall, not some wall you can climb over with a Home Depot ladder. It's going to be the best wall and they'll pay for it.

I like the way you think, do you have a Presidential campaign I might donate to?

That's because we read the rules beforehand and know how it works and then don't act surprised when it plays out exactly how it's expected to :D ;)

They have had that ECAC Final repeat the next week in the NCAA quarters in the past. IIRC it was in 2011. Not sure about longer ago history.

Late to the party on this but UND and BSA have never been able to take 2 consecutive games from MN or WI but more than capable of dropping games to SCSU or OSU. I think it says something about the coaching that can wind them up for one game a week against a couple of the best in the nation but no more. No way either wins the tourney anytime soon unless they can overcome that.
