2016 MN Boys Hockey Tourney- Let the Good Locks Flow

No repeat champion in either class as both Lakeville North and East Grand Forks didn't make it this year and for the first time in 7 years Duluth East didn't make it, so two new teams in the AA Championship game.

As has been the case every year since around 2004 I'll be at every game at the Excel, although we'll probably skip both 3rd place games on Saturday.

Class A tomorrow

Mankato West (15-11-2) vs. #2 Breck (24-3-1)
Princeton (21-7-0) vs. #3 Thief River Falls (22-6-0)
Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato (20-8-0) vs. #1 Hermantown (24-2-1)
#5 St. Cloud Cathedral (20-7-1) vs. #4 St. Paul Academy and Summit School (23-5-0)

Class AA Thursday

Farmington (18-8-1) vs. #2 Stillwater (26-1-1)
Burnsville (16-10-2) vs. #3 Wayzata (19-8-1)
Anoka (18-9-0) vs. #1 Eden Prairie (19-7-2)
#5 Bemidji (23-2-2) vs. #4 Grand Rapids (21-6-1)

Just a note that our own MavHockey14 is an assistant coach of the Mankato West team who opens the tourney tomorrow at 11 AM. Good luck to the Scarlets tomorrow!

I'm a Northfield resident, my daughter (6 years) and I went down to Rochester for the section final, even though we didn't know anyone connected with the program.

It was an enjoyable game. My first game at that arena; like it a lot, other than the parking

Bemidji vs. Grand Rapids should have been one round later. But it is what it is.

Will be paying and watching on prep45.com

How does Hermantown screw it up this year? I'm guessing after winning Friday afternoon they say screw it, go back home and request the 2nd place trophy be mailed to them.

Guess we'll see. Keep in mind, they're the Moorhead Spuds of Class A. Although unlike the Spuds they actually won it once. :) :(

Thanks goldy. Looking forward to a great opportunity this week.

They're doing some construction this year near by.. I believe it's an old folks home or something like that. What a mess that created for parking. Thankfully we arrive early and I ride the bus, but that parking situation this year was unfortunate.

No cake eaters this year?

Edina lost in the regional finals to Eden Prairie.

Class A does have three private schools in the mix, and Wayzata in Class AA is pretty expensive.

I'll be watching

Anyone got extra tickets and not trying to pay off their student loans by selling them?

Cool joe. What's your connection to MN or high school hockey?

I run the MD High School league (www.mshl.org). Any idea that I can steal, I will. And since MN runs the granddaddy of all Hockey Tournaments, I'll play Willie Sutton and steal every good idea they have.

I stole the running clock, 4 man officiating, introduce the entire squads for the QF and Finals. Too bad we don't have cheerleaders for hockey in Maryland. I'm working on it, though.

I'd do the same. Ever come out for a tourney? Seems to me you could get backstage access and double down on your knowledge.
