2016-17 Schedules

Re: 2016-17 Schedules

I am assuming (dangerous, I know!) that the Commonwealth Coast Conference hockey schedules are complete since Curry College has posted their schedule on their site. I notice a lot of week night games. It also appears there are no travel partners. This schedule may take some getting used to!

The CCC is basically the old ECAC Northeast. Most teams play in rinks that they don't control and for that reason, play a lot of week night games. The ECAC NE was a cost control league - the teams made very few road trips requiring overnight stays, so a typical schedule had a bunch of Tues/Thus/ and maybe Saturday games. UNE is going to be different in terms of facilities because there are not a lot teams with what you have. It will be a league that has a very different look than the NEHC/ECAC E that you became accustomed to.

Agree - think another MASCAC with the teams that own their own barns rising to the top.

However the CCC should have an AQ right off the start.

Re: 2016-17 Schedules

I feel UNE may have exchanged a walk on part in the war for the lead role in a cage. The sudden arrival of Endicott definitely makes the CCC more interesting but Endicott will experience growing pains. I think there were 28 freshman on the 15-16 roster----many of them will be bumped for the next years incoming group and inevitable discontent.

It's very hard to understand regular match ups with Norwich, Babson, and UMB being replaced by Curry, Endicott, and Nichols.

They didn't have a choice. UNE's main conference is the CCC. The NEHC is a single-sport conference. When your primary conference sponsors a sport, you must join that league. It's in every real league's by-laws.

The CCC will be a fine conference IMHO. UNE and Endicott should be borderline or in the top 15 most years and then programs like Nichols and Curry have had good years in the past.

Re: 2016-17 Schedules

Two questions:

1. So will the games against Daniel Webster actually count towards the NEHC standings? This schedule lists them as conference games. I'm not really clear on what being a "scheduling partner" means. I thought it just meant they would be put on the schedule so that the NEHC schools wouldn't have to go out and find non-conference games to fill their schedules in place of UNE, but that DWC wasn't actually joining the conference.

2. Does anyone know which Champlain College they're playing for the exhibition game? There are two. Champlain-Lennoxville and Champlain-St. Lawrence.

Daniel Webster is NOT part of the conference for 2016-17 but the games against them WILL COUNT in the standings.

Basically they won't be eligible for the postseason tournament or the league awards.

I believe it's Champlain St. Lawrence

Prez I should be coming up to Norwich for a reunion in Sept, probably the last for my dad he is 85 and not to many left from the class of 55', etc, hope to run into you then, and will also look to make that tourney in dec.

Awesome! Look forward to meeting you.

Re: 2016-17 Schedules

The one thing that jumps out at me, is that the travel partners, Fredonia and Buffalo State, play each other in a home-and-home on the same weekend. is that going to be the new scheduling format this year? Plattsburgh-Potsdam, Geneseo-Brockport, and Oswego-Cortland in a home-and-home on the same weekends?

I actually don't know if I like that...

Tough to have a travel partner schedule with an odd number of teams. Thats why the NEHC brought in Daniel Webster as a space filler/"schedule partner"

Re: 2016-17 Schedules

Does Daniel Webster becoming a schedule partner mean that they will become a full member of the NEHC for the 2017/2018 season?

My guess is that it is a test for both sides. There is a bit of possible flux in conference alignments and neither side wanted to commit for a long term agreement.

Re: 2016-17 Schedules

Slight mistake on the Plattsburgh schedule. It says they're playing Concordia University (QC) from the CIS. They're actually playing Concordia College (MN) from the MIAC.
