2015 WCHA Offseason

Re: 2015 WCHA Offseason

BG is Bleacher Creatures. Wisco is Crease Creatures.

Speaking of the Bleacher Creatures, we're planning some trips as well. We'll go to Columbus, Kalamazoo, and Oxford for sure, with possible trips to the Soo over winter break and Huntsville over spring break.

What about the Misfits? That's always fun...

Re: 2015 WCHA Offseason

Any word on if the America One / Eversport / WCHA collaboration is continuing for a third year? After the hot out of the box start in 2013-14, 2014-15 started with a huge stumbling block that they worked hard to amend by the end of last season.

If the partnership continues, I do hope that continued upgrades are realized throughout the league. There seemed to be plenty of good and steady progress at the end of the season.

What I'd like to see most is an iTunes / Google Play app built around the video feeds. Especially if the new AppleTV coding allows for an app store as rumored. Airplay and streaming to set top boxes work okay, but having dedicated apps on them could/should allow for wider adoption of the WCHA.tv package.

We set the bar for streaming (that was broken by NCHC.tv), I'd like to see the WCHA reclaim the title as best college hockey streaming platform.

Re: 2015 WCHA Offseason

How many horses in the race for the WCHA title this year.

5 or less, what does everyone think?

Mankato, Tech, BG, Alaska, Bemidji??
Will Ferris be back?
Can NMU challenge?
Will UAA bounce back?
UAH should rise in the standings?
LSSU should improve?

Re: 2015 WCHA Offseason

I haven't talked to Matt at the league offices (if I had, I wouldn't be able to say anything), but I sure hope that it gets there. But there needs to be some parity across the league. UAH has one of the worst broadcasts, and it's not just because of the guy they had doing it: it's coach's camera high, single shot, with no replay and no ads. Having been a part of it, I'd describe the production as bare-bones.

I would be very surprised if we're anywhere but where we were last year.

Re: 2015 WCHA Offseason

So you're a top city if you win. Got it. It's a metric. It's maybe an interesting metric. I just don't know that it's a valuable one. (I'd say that if Huntsville were higher.)

I got word from the league, with respect to WCHA.tv, that we should "stay tuned". That's not what I got last offseason.

I'd put Anchorage, Huntsville and Marquette as my top 3 in the league.

if you win and don't charge an arm/leg (see Ann Arbor, Grand Forks, Duluth...).
or maybe even if you don't win so much, but offer cheap tix and easy access.
but yeah, it's the slow season. ;)

speaking of metrics, the BG players are wearing training shirts printed with ".0002" this summer. ouch.

Houghton ranked #3 for most accessible rink. So they're saying we're easy? I'm not sure I want to be highly ranked in that category.

I can tell you from personal experience that walking up the hill from Wadsworth Hall for games was NOT easy. Shuttle buses now for dorm students because they don't want to walk up the hill?? Man this generation needs to toughen up. Back in my day... [insert story of Western settlers, harsh weather, uphill both ways, no self-propelled ice resurfacing machines, etc.]

Each city in the WCHA has many positives. Some have a few negatives. Like rapidscity, I really enjoy Huntsville and Anchorage, even though they are long trips. Bowling Green also stands near the top of my list as well.

Yeah, I get that. But what they're saying is that the value proposition is in winning for a reasonable price. I maintain that you can have a good time while you're not winning, but yeah, winning is nicer.

We were ranked #1 for "Best Performing" teams? Sadly, this must be "regular season only"
