2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!!

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

Crazy finish to the race and championship!

Dixon wins, and closes the 47 points to tie, and take the championship.

Montoya just didn't have the car to close on Briscoe to just get *one* more spot.

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

Wow...Great race today (except for Bourdais punting Rahal)!!!! Some great moves throughout the field and stellar driving from Kanaan and Dixon (of course). Newgarden drove great and was once again screwed by his pit crew.

I'm so sick and tired of Will Power though. The guy is such a whining asshat. Unless he's punting people out of the way he cries like the world is ending and it's getting exhausting to watch over and over.

" it's a race or a casino"??? what? he thinks the yellow flags were the result of circus-type calls? Really the only remotely questionable yellow flag was when one car was underpowered and going quite slowly around the track. Yes, that driver probably should have been told to pull off but for chrissakes he takes out Montoya and blames their misfortune on yellow flags?

You know who never complains about officiating or yellow flags or someone punting him off the track? Scott Dixon and now Dixie has won 4 Championships. Power is a disgrace to Penske and he should be replaced by either Josef Newgarden or Sage Karam but the captain doesn't like Newgarden and Karam is probably tied up for a few more years as a 4th driver at Ganassi.

Speaking of disgraces and Penske...they absolutely should be penalized for Pagenaud's actions on pit road. He knew **** well Newgarden pitted right behind Power and he chose to stop not just to let Power go but he HAD to know it would **** up Newgarden's pit exit. What a chump.

Penske used to win on their speed, intuition, brains and they also did it (except for 1994) with class. That pit road situation was classless.

He seemed to forget that Juan won a double points race due to very good yellow flag management. Had it not been for the I500, Juan would not have had that lead in the points. Sometimes it works for you, but Power shows that it's ok to whine about it when it works against you.

In hindsight, it was really good to see Montoya to take out Power- putting both of them at the back of the pack.

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

WOW. I. CANNOT. believe. what. happened.

1. Seeing an Indycar Bill Buckner moment happen to Montoya... couldn't happen to a bigger dbag. "Dixon had a ***** season all year and had one good race, and we paid the penalty."
LOLOLOLOLOLOL. Jerk.

2. Really, to see Power and JPM take each other out was pretty much amazing. WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP. Suck it Penske.

3. Disappointed Rahal didn't have the car yesterday to make things even more exciting (if that is possible). Bummer there.

4. Bourdais really just had to go make things interesting there with a few laps to go. Jesus. I almost had a hysterical 7 year old, thank God for Ryan Briscoe.

5. Servia did a great job considering the circumstances. I think all in all the exciting race, the tributes, etc were all a good step forward after the Justin Wilson incident for Indycar and the drivers.

6. Not to be lost in all the whining from everyone about double points, JPM choking, etc is that Dixon was just dominating yesterday, adding seconds to his lead while conserving fuel.

Looks like Sonoma is in the works to be the final race next year again (instead of Boston). Which is disappointing because I was planning to go out there for that to visit my brother in SF and go to the race with the kid but not while school is in session now obviously.

Wow just seeing that Power quote. Jesus the Penske kids are sour patch kids when they don't win.

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

I am a loyal Penske Tifosi, but the Captain needs to make changes. He needs drivers like he used to have who didn't F up all the time. Power screws himself all the time with boneheaded moves. 3 years ago all he had to do was stay with Hunter-Ray and he wipes out. All Juan had to do is keep his nose clean, and he fs up. *** were you thinking Juan? That was a dumbass move if I ever saw it. Penske needs a clean sweep of the line-up. I thought Juan wasn't washed up, but he is, he's lost his edge. Pagenaud was entirely underwhelming and he brought his engineer with him. Helio, who I have a lot of respect for, has also just lost his edge. Power is just Power, mega fast bit mistake prone. Mears, Sullivan, Fittiapldi and all the Unsers, DeFeran, even Hornish never screwed up or were horribly under performing unless their cars were dogs. I'd take Karam & Newgarden yesterday, maybe even Rahal. I am sick and tired of watching these guys pea their pants under pressure.

All double points races are stupid. Period. Stop the gimmicks.

Race control....that first yellow was a crock is sheeit. The car never stopped, give me a break. The last incident where the car got stuck at the hairpin should have been a yellow. What in the world is going on here? With the departure of Walker and seeing how poorly these cars are built to handle crashes, and seeing how poorly these races are officiated, for the first time, I am losing confidence in this series. Things are only going to get worse from here.

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

Anyone here ever been to an Indy 500? Just curious.

BOS to O'Hare flights around that weekend are so cheap it's stupid and I just may try to do some sort of Chicago/Indy500 trip for a Christmas present for the 7 year old.

Been a while, but twice. Since it's more spectacle than race (you see it better on TV), I'd go in a heartbeat, if you can swing it. Parking is nuts, and the traffic is worse. But still worth it.

Last time we went- fresh into work, and friends left in the dead of morning to go down. Made it through the race, only to take a nap at our car after. Which made the traffic a lot easier to deal with. If you can turn it into a long Chicago weekend- even better- so if the race has changes, you can be flexible.

Doesn't Southwest fly to Indy??

Did the 500 in 1999... Also went to Pole Day yearly from 1997-2005.... Got several 400's under my belt as well... Chicago is about 3.5 hours out from Indy once you clear traffic, FYI... It's long enough to give problems if weather becomes an issue...

I think you're right about the Penske drivers...He needs to shake it up. Pagenaud was pedestrian all season. Power is a headcase. JPM is still very very good IMO. Helio is not what he used to be but he's still better than 20 of the other drivers imo.

I say ditch Power and Pagenaud and sign Conor Daly and Sage Karam (the future of Indycar) so he pairs two young lions with two middle-aged vets with the experience to help mold the kids.

HOWEVER...Robin Miller thinks Carlos Munoz is pursuing a ride with KV and that would open the door for Conor Daly to Andretti. Ganassi is pairing down to 3 cars and unfortunately that leaves Karam w/out a ride in Indycar unless there's a new opening somewhere.

Honda wants Newgarden back and they want to pair him with Rahal according to Miller. that would be awesome!!!
If that happens then Karam to CFH?

It's going to be an interesting off-season and with Pocono and Milwaukee in the balance they could be down to 3 ovals quickly...ugh

Not a foregone conclusion from what I'm seeing that Ganassi won't run a 4th car. Just that the other 3 are all set and they have to figure out if they go back to a 4th car. If they go with 3, Karam to CFH...? Boy I don't know about that after his run-in with Carpenter this season.

Looks like Gabby Chavez will be back with Herta again next year from what I'm reading.

Jeez I'm so into this stuff now, it's going to be a long offseason.

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

Monza weekend!

Weekend starts off with some interesting news from Mercedes- partially thanks to their reliability, they are able to do some major engine changes. To a 2016 spec. Yes, Merceds has used up their tokens for the 2016 season, and brought ahead next year's engine to this weekend and the remainder of the season. 8 races to test with. And boy are they powerful. This weekend, where power is very key, only the factory Mercedes team will get the engine- the rest of the teams will theirs rolled out to them as the season goes on.

So far in qualifying (watching Q2 at the moment) Ferrari also looks quite fast.

On the other end of the grid- Honda's great improvement has them farther back than normal....

Carpenter is saavy with regard to business (very smart to leave the road and street racing to the guys who are weened on it for instance) so I think if Newgarden is available he'd go for it and it doesn't hurt that JNew is an American.

The past 3 seasons have been incredible and finally it appears the t.v. numbers are climbing for real.

What I don't understand is what the hell is Verizon doing for this series exactly. They have close to 0 advertising presence as does Target w/Dixon or any of the drivers. Verizon should be activating and doing commercials more often and running them during football season to gear up for 2016. Target should activate and get the target cars in the toy sections and have cardboard cut-outs of TK, Scott Dixon, Charlie Kimball and Sage Karam at the front of the store to greet the customers as it were. NAME RECOGNITION would help tremendously.

I like Gabby Chavez and I'm glad Herta will bring him back. Honestly if Colton Herta doesn't make F1 racing for his dad could be a great option.

Imagine an Indycar in 2017 or 2018 with

Sage Karam full-time on Ganassi or Penske
Conor Daly full-time with Andretti
Graham Rahal and Joseph Newgarden teamed up @ RLL
Ryan Hunter-Reay @ Andretti
Colton Herta @ Herta Mortosports
maybe add Matthew Brabham @ Andretti as well
along w/Gabby Chaves remaining @ Herta

that's an American contingent that could capture the hearts of U.S. sports fans again like Sneva, Andretti, Foyt, Gurney, Parnelli, Unsers, Mears et al used too

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

Not much of a race.

The interesting parts can be summarized-

Rosberg did not finish due to a grenading motor. With fire. Which made Mercedes nervous for Hamilton's win.

Kimi had a terrible start. Didn't move for a while, and ended up last. And still managed to finish 5th. Great drive.

Otherwise, with the 2016 spec motor, Hamilton totally dominated the race. And the post race confusion about pre-race tire pressures- didn't result in anything. Which was the result of Pirelli raising their min pressures after telling us that their tires were fine.

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

What a SHOCKER! Ferrari outright beats Mercedes @ Singapore. Obviously RB and Ferrari are better than Mercedes on the high downforce tracks. I'll have to see what races are left and if they suit Ferrari or Mercedes better. Vettel is not dead just yet....

It will be fascinating to see whose engine RB gets for next year. If I were Ferrari I'd not get involved with them.

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

Newgarden confirmed back with CFH for one year. As speculated, he'll look to move on in 2017 to possibly an open seat with Ganassi or Penske.

He also had some cool first-person footage shot and released yesterday from testing at Road America.

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

Kind of a snoozer race at the front but some really nice dicing back in the pack.

I kinda like Alonso...hated him when he was fighting against Schumi, loved him in the Red Stallion, but his complaining about the Honda engine publicly is not a good idea. He's the best talent on the grid, he just needs to conduct himself a little more professionally.

Grosjean to Haas, a little underwhelmed by the choice. I would have preferred Hulkenberg, but I guess he wanted to be able to race in other series. I also would have preferred Sutil, he has the kind of experience Haas was looking for in their lead driver. Maybe my pro-German anti-French bias is showing just a little too much. That Treaty of Versailles still makes me mad. :)

Re: 2015 Open Wheel Racing - The Devil comes to Ferrari & the return Wayward Driver!!

Sochi has come and gone.

Not much of a race in the front- but once again, the racing in the back was pretty amazing. Botas and Raikonnen passing Perez on the last lap then having Kimi take out Valteri. Perez for third. Kimi's 5th is in question.
