2015 D1 Post - season Scores and Results

Re: 2015 D1 Post - season Scores and Results

Well the NCAA committee won't be able to use the Mercyhurst is a "West" team excuse when shorting the WCHA this year.
RIT, Syracuse, and Penn State are all West teams.

Re: 2015 D1 Post - season Scores and Results

RIT, Syracuse, and Penn State are all West teams.

Well, if true, it becomes even more of a farce then as far as geography goes....

Yes, after thinking about it, I guess I hadn't considered that CHA is a "West" conference. I suppose the WCHA is gonna get stuck again unless UND or BSU wins the league.

For NCAA purposes, the CHA is considered a Western league for representation on committees, etc. At least now with Lindenwood, it is clear that the average location of the programs is farther west than is the case for ECAC and Hockey East.

Re: 2015 D1 Post - season Scores and Results

If Minnesota wins the WCHA, they will get the CHA champ. If they don't, and BC wins Hockey East, BC would get RIT or Cuse and UM would get PSU.

Re: 2015 D1 Post - season Scores and Results

I don't know how Penn State is even still in this game. Shots are 28-8 for Syracuse after two periods. Penn State's normally good power play is non-existent. One thing that's bothered me all season is how the defense spends so much time playing around behind their own net, instead of moving the puck forward. That's given Syracuse all kinds of extra chances that they shouldn't be getting. Celine Whitlinger is having to stand on her head to keep them in this one, and she's getting no help.

This is the way the Minnesota defense plays all the time and they're very good at it. Teams have caught on and are applying more forecheck pressure than they did in previous seasons, necessitating a sometimes incomplete change in tactics. It can be very effective against teams that don't forecheck as aggressively and as Penn State adds talent it could start to be effective.

The forecheck pressure being effective isn't really a function of whether or not a team handles the puck below its own goal line. To break out successfully, you have to get the puck through that pressure at some point. What the Gophers are doing is resetting down low if they don't feel like a safe outlet is available. If the strategy is to avoid handling the puck behind the net, the risk is to turn the puck over more frequently and in higher-risk areas.

Re: 2015 D1 Post - season Scores and Results

So it is RIT versus Syracuse on neutral ice. Each took two games at home, so it'll be interesting to see who takes advantage of a new venue.

Re: 2015 D1 Post - season Scores and Results

This wasn't a good game for Penn State, but the season as a whole was a huge improvement over their first two seasons in D-1. Their special teams (despite tonight) were probably their biggest improvement overall as a team, and Celine Whitlinger's play in net was the difference maker in a lot of games. They can feel good about this season, for sure.

I am totally in the dark here. Can someone please explain why people are talking about having two teams advance from the CHA? How does that work?

TonyTheTiger knows not what he is saying. Rare, but true.

I think he was identifying the match ups given NCAA geography, for each of the 3 remaining CHA teams.

Re: 2015 D1 Post - season Scores and Results

Yes that -- I was saying that depending on who won the CHA, that would affect whether the CHA champion goes to Minnesota *or* to BC. Not that a CHA would go to BC *and* another CHA would go to Minnesota.

It's moot now though because the CHA champ will now go to the #1 seed regardless of who wins it since MU and PSU are eliminated.*

*Unless NoDak wins the WCHA, then the CHA champ is going to BC no matter what -- even if the Eagles lose to UConn.

BC 2
UCONN 1 13 minutes to go in third

Re: 2015 D1 Post - season Scores and Results

Cornell over Clarkson 3-1. Cornell scoring 3 third period goals to get the win.

Congrats to Cornell. Vorhees played really well in goal. Clarkson probably should have won this game 5 or 6 to 3 but shot wide on some great scoring chances or Vorhees made the critical save. Thank god Jenner, Saulnier and Poudrier are seniors

Poudrier is only a Junior. ;) But it'll be interesting to see what kind of offense Cornell will be able to generate next year without Jenner, Saulnier and Fulton. :(

BC 3
UCONN 1 Final

OOPS. :) Then put Fulton in her place. Jenner and Saulnier are just great players and it has been a pleasure to watch them. Yes, it will be interesting to see what in the way of offense Cornell will be able to generate next year without them.
