2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Fixed your issue :)

As for me, switch Prinney and Harvey and you have my top 10.

Darn, why didn't I see that??? Nice fix. I'll use that next week.

And regarding the switch between Prinney and Harvey - > I buy into that. My brain says your right, it's just my muscle memory from last year has a hard time with it.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Observations:

1. Everyone seems to be lining up with similar top 10. Exception is some Colgate love.
2. BC vs Wisconsin - Can we just get on with it? We know Wisconsin is the real deal. It's hard to judge just how good BC is except by looking at the colossal margins of victory against over-matched opponents.
3. Lots of concern about QU for 2nd half. I looked at box score and they outshot RPI 40 to 15 or something like that. Did not see Cianfarano in line-up. So maybe it was a case of hot goalie and leading scorer out.
4. Clarkson - I've been critical of high ranking. But 12-2 vs Yale/Brown is BC-like. However, Stanz wasn't in line-up. Sort of takes a little of the "wow" out of it. Harvard this weekend, Colgate next. That should give me a better read.
5. WCHA - I love this conference. 4 to 5 very good teams and every weekend there are season-making (and breaking) match-ups. ECAC seems similar but no superpowers. This weekend features Wiscky at Bemidjy and North Dakotey at Minn-Deey. Good stuffeey.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

BC is the 2nd team in the modern era to enter the 2nd half with a perfect record.
BC also has a very similar SOS compared to Wisconsin based on every statistical model.

I'm just sayin'.

Hey... BC is great. The only question is "are they #1 or #2?" That's why all games should be cancelled this weekend for a BC vs Wisco matchup at a neutral site. Find a rink 600 miles west of Chestnut Hill and 600 miles east of Madison.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

I'm not going to have the poll today -- should be able to do it midday tomorrow.

Pokey, I'm curious as to the rationale to put Minnesota #1. I'm guessing Wisconsin's finish to the 1st half has something to do with it.

I no longer poll, I did in the past but am no longer interested enough in which eastern teams are good to try to fill out a top ten. I am not trying to judge any of the rest of you, that is just the state of my current interest in eastern hockey below the very top tier.

If I was polling I would vote:

1-Boston College
2-Wisconsin
3-Minnesota

And no clue whatsoever beyond that.

My vote would be based on season record to this date.

But if you asked me which team I think is the most likely national champion I would reel off the following list:

1-Minnesota
2-Wisconsin
3-Boston College

Wisconsin beat Minnesota twice in very close games in Madison. I do not see those results as indicative of a probable season sweep by the Badgers. I think Minnesota should be favored to win each of the games at the end of the season in Minneapolis. Maybe they won't and if they do not Wisconsin is the probable WCHA regular season champion and the favorite for games between the two from there on out.

If Minnesota wins both they are probably the WCHA regular season champion and an easy pick in any game against Wisconsin from then on out.

Which doesn't mean that Wisconsin couldn't reverse that trend and win again.

However those pre-NCAA tournament games between the western powers work out I just think based on the history of the game that Minnesota and/or Wisconsin should be viewed as a more likely national champion until such time as Boston College makes the break through and wins.

Which I hope leaves open that I think there is a good possibility that this is the year.

But until they do it they haven't done it and I favor the pattern of history.

yes, it's part of it, and if you say WI & BC are even, I guess that makes MN #1
the other part is seeing MN steamroll OSU with their 2 best players out of the lineup
and perhaps hoping the reason Kessel had such a huge smile on her face Saturday was because she's pleased with her progress and will return
what hoops fan didn't want to see Jordan return? what puckster didn't want to see Mario return?
like the Wizard of Oz above, having never seen any of the eastern teams play except Harvard it's pretty difficult to give an accurate ranking, so my ranking is who is most likely to win the NCAA

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

It's going to be a mess deciding what team is at #10.

Colgate? But Harvard beat them 6-2 just 8 days ago.
Harvard? But they just got swept by SLU and Clarkson.
Minn Duluth? But they split with Harvard in November.

I'm leaning toward MD, unless Harvard pulls out the miracle on Tue vs BC.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Important ones too.
The weekend's results made them slightly less important. BU settling for a tie at Vermont and Harvard getting swept in the North Country don't make one believe that an upset is looming by either of those teams.

Also why is BU/QU at 11am on a Wednesday??
I was told by a supporter that QU is planning a field trip day for local schools to visit campus and attend the game and it is expected that ~ 800 students will participate.

Brilliant idea. HockeyEast, ECAC and CHA should consider doing this once a year at every school. Gives the students exposure to universities and colleges, as well as women's hockey. That's a two-fer. (WCHA - you can do it too, but I don't think attendance is a problem, right?)

I don't know about school field trips, but the sports marketing department at Minnesota strenuously courts local youth hockey associations. At any given game, there are at least two sets of teams in attendance. Today, girls from Chaska-Chanhassen took to the ice for the introductions, wearing stupendous green and purple jerseys. They were fabulous, reminding me a bit of the ones the Slovenian men wore in the last Olympics.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Grant, I assume this week's poll will wait until after Harvard's upset win on Tuesday? :p
