I'm not paying attention to you ;), but if you saw how well und played this weekend, there's no way they are unranked. There is very little gap between UM, UW and UND. How UND lost to Syracuse is beyond understanding. It will be fascinating to see how the UM/UND games go coming up, talk about giving pollsters a measuring stick....

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

I can see the love for NoDak (in fact, I plan on moving them up) but keeping UMD ranked just blows my mind. Having the toughest strength of schedule isn't enough to get you ranked on its own when you're 9-16-1 against that competition and riding a 6 game losing streak...

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

I feel like I'm starting to get a handle for how good everyone is.

Usually I take my previous week's rankings and adjust up or down based on weekly results, but this week I'm going to throw that out entirely and start fresh, going based on a little more recency bias and a little more gut. (I hate "gut," but given that polls are subjective in the first place, if there's any place for "gut" it's polls.)

1) Boston College -- Depth has started to show lately even with the superline being put back together which is great to see. Casually blowing bad teams out, and there's not much more they can do beyond that.
2) Wisconsin -- The top 2 are all alone right now. Could put them in either order, but even though UW D > BC D, I think BC O >> UW O. We may get a chance to see in a couple months.

3) Minnesota -- Brandt is back, and I expect they'll stay closer to 2nd than they will to 4th.

4) Northeastern -- 4 and 5 are about as close as 1 and 2 are and for the same reasons. I jumped NU all the way up to 4th because they are white-hot, and also because I asked myself "who do I think would be more likely to beat Minnesota?" And I would really like to see NU's top line horses up against the Gophers. I think that would be a goal bonanza. QU is really good but that KC and the Sunshine Band top line matches up with anyone's, including BC's, and that would be enough to give NU a shot.
5) Quinnipiac -- As in #1 vs #2, QU D> NU D, but NU O >> QU O. Nice blowout win over BU; they were doing God's work on that one.
6) North Dakota -- Could really be ranked as high as 4th, but NU and QU are more en fuego. Close, though. How this team got embarrassed by Syracuse is one of the great mysteries of our time.
7) Clarkson -- Another good team, also close to the teams in front of them, but going on that "gut" thing, I think they would lose to those teams above them more than they would win. Playing pretty well lately but not well enough to put them above the others.
8) Bemidji State -- Rounding out the middle cluster is the Beavers. Not as hot as they were earlier this year. Imagine if this team could score?

9) Princeton -- Might stay in 9th for the rest of the season.

10) Harvard -- Colgate's "meh" weekend means Harvard gets to sit here for now. I feel better about it anyway given the H2H result.

I rank based on which team I think is strongest, 1 through 10, regardless of record. If you have a multi-game round robin tournament between Harvard, Colgate and MD, I just think MD comes out on top. If I'm wrong, which of course I could be, I'm not wrong by much.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Got a rare look inside the coach's offices of the top ten teams in the poll and found some interesting framed quotes.

1. BC
- "To improve is to change. To be perfect is to change often."
2. Wisconsin
- "The ladder of success is never crowded at the top."
3. Minnesota
- "One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching."
4. Quinnipiac
- "Go for it now. The future is promised to no one."
5. UND
- "For true success ask yourself these four questions. Why? Why not? Why not me? Why not now?"
6. Clarkson
- "Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation."
7. Northeastern
- "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog."
8. Bemidji
- "Success is best measured by how far you've come with the talents you've been given."
9. Princeton
- "Leaders make thing possible. Exceptional leaders make them inevitable."
10. Colgate
- "I am neither an optimist nor pessimist, but a possibilist "

The way I try to evaluate this one is who do I think would win H2H. IMO, the Bobcats would force the Huskies to spend a lot of time in their own zone, and I don't see that as being a strength of NU. Coyne gives a lot of teams fits defensively, but I think that Q's blue line and back pressure match up well against her -- or at least as well as anyone does. BC solves the Coyne problem by possessing the puck most of the time, and I don't know that the Bobcats can do that, but I do think they'd be able to bottle Northeastern up quite effectively. It would be a fun game to watch. The fact that NU wasn't able to get much done against a so-so thus far Harvard doesn't bode all that well.

And since Northeastern's 0-2 Harvard/BC weekend, their win streak is against these teams: Vermont (2x), Dartmouth, UConn (2x), New Hampshire (2x), Providence, Maine (2x). I've got them at #7.

They haven't beaten a ranked team but Grant doesn't take SOS into account! :)

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

I don't get the diminishing love for Bemidji. They are 1-1-1 vs North Dakota and they've pretty much beaten every team they've played, with the exception of Wisconsin.

The Beavers are 0-6-0 against Wisconsin and Minnesota, 17-1-2 against everyone else (including 2-1-1 vs. UND). We'll see what they can do against the Gophers this week.
