Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll
I feel like I'm starting to get a handle for how good everyone is.
Usually I take my previous week's rankings and adjust up or down based on weekly results, but this week I'm going to throw that out entirely and start fresh, going based on a little more recency bias and a little more gut. (I hate "gut," but given that polls are subjective in the first place, if there's any place for "gut" it's polls.)
1) Boston College -- Depth has started to show lately even with the superline being put back together which is great to see. Casually blowing bad teams out, and there's not much more they can do beyond that.
2) Wisconsin -- The top 2 are all alone right now. Could put them in either order, but even though UW D > BC D, I think BC O >> UW O. We may get a chance to see in a couple months.
3) Minnesota -- Brandt is back, and I expect they'll stay closer to 2nd than they will to 4th.
4) Northeastern -- 4 and 5 are about as close as 1 and 2 are and for the same reasons. I jumped NU all the way up to 4th because they are white-hot, and also because I asked myself "who do I think would be more likely to beat Minnesota?" And I would really like to see NU's top line horses up against the Gophers. I think that would be a goal bonanza. QU is really good but that KC and the Sunshine Band top line matches up with anyone's, including BC's, and that would be enough to give NU a shot.
5) Quinnipiac -- As in #1 vs #2, QU D> NU D, but NU O >> QU O. Nice blowout win over BU; they were doing God's work on that one.
6) North Dakota -- Could really be ranked as high as 4th, but NU and QU are more en fuego. Close, though. How this team got embarrassed by Syracuse is one of the great mysteries of our time.
7) Clarkson -- Another good team, also close to the teams in front of them, but going on that "gut" thing, I think they would lose to those teams above them more than they would win. Playing pretty well lately but not well enough to put them above the others.
8) Bemidji State -- Rounding out the middle cluster is the Beavers. Not as hot as they were earlier this year. Imagine if this team could score?
9) Princeton -- Might stay in 9th for the rest of the season.
10) Harvard -- Colgate's "meh" weekend means Harvard gets to sit here for now. I feel better about it anyway given the H2H result.
