Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Interesting Poll Results:

This Poll - UMD in 10th, with Princeton and Colgate out of Top 10.

USCHO Poll - Colgate in 10th, with Princeton and UMD out.

USA Today Poll - Princeton in 10th, with Colgate and UMD out.

You forgot whether to mention the number of first place UND votes.

You forgot whether to mention the number of first place UND votes.

How could I have missed that interesting stat?

This Poll - One vote for UND as #1

USCHO Poll - No votes for UND as #1

USA Today Poll - No votes for UND as #1

(Maybe there was some confusion about the polling question? Easy to mistake "Which is the best women's hockey team in the country?" with "Which is the best women's hockey team in North Dakota?")

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Dream games... as we take a couple of weeks off:

Bemidji or North Dakota vs Quinnipiac (have no idea who'd win)
Boston College vs Wisconsin or Minnesota (ditto)
Clarkson vs UM Duluth (just to show that Clarkson is over-ranked)
Colgate vs Princeton (oh wait, that happened - so why is Colgate ahead of Princeton in ANY poll?)

These are most likely first-goal-wins games. Then they become very hard to predict, because it isn't about being the best team over 60 minutes, but being the team that can make one play. BSU is great at locking it down once it has a lead, but of the these three teams, it has the hardest time scoring. I think the Beavers would struggle to score against Quinnipiac, just like they do against Wisconsin. BC would almost be a better match up for them, just like Minnesota is. UND has a better chance against the Bobcats, assuming UND is having a good day, which seems to be a 50/50 proposition.

Boston College vs Wisconsin or Minnesota (ditto)
It might depend on when the game happens. First semester, take BC, and in March, take the WCHA team.

Clarkson vs UM Duluth (just to show that Clarkson is over-ranked)
After Quinnipiac, everybody is overrated, because they all have issues. You just focus on Clarkson's and minimize those of a team like UMD. I don't think SCSU would be able to tie Clarkson. The Bulldogs have a great first line, but the rest of their forwards haven't done much. Mercer and Howe are very good for the Golden Knights, and they have more scoring punch on their blue line. It might come down to how well Shea Tiley plays, but I'd like Clarkson to win this one.

Colgate vs Princeton (oh wait, that happened - so why is Colgate ahead of Princeton in ANY poll?)
Have you watched Colgate play? The Raiders are young, they make mistakes, but there is a lot of potential. Princeton is better right now, but I think the Raiders have more upside, particularly with their freshman goalie, who doesn't have that many starts so far.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

ARM... really good post. Couple of quick additional thoughts:

Re: Clarkson. I do want to point out that I've seen a lot of them this season. Maybe they turn it on in the second half, but if they play like they have, they won't be beating top 10 teams.

Re: Colgate. I like them, just think Princeton has to be ranked higher right now.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Okay, I'll kick this off.

1 Wisconsin: Because undefeated is undefeated, but best is best.
2 Boston College: Because undefeated is undefeated.
3 Minnesota: The Minnesota State series next weekend is unlikely to affect this.
4 Quinnipiac: Seem to be having creeping difficulty with scoring, more likely to move down than up.
5 Clarkson: 7-0 -- yes, against Brown, but Ambrose seems to be back as an offensive threat and that's big.
6 North Dakota: Marked up for having a high ceiling.
7 Northeastern: A bit lucky to come up against a Chuli-free UConn. Still not convinced they're the real deal defensively.
8 Princeton: Took the foot off the gas against RPI but didn't suffer for it; and before that had got three goals past Selander, which is three more than Quinnipiac managed.
9 Bemidji: Have turned from a tough team who get wins you don't think they will into a tough team who beat the teams you expect. Marked down for letting in 4 goals from Lindenwood.
10 Harvard: Good on paper.

6. North Dakoty
7. North Easterny
8. Clarksony - I must comment and admit that my previous thoughts about Clarkson not deserving of this high of a rank may be absolutely wrong. Nice weekend.
9. Princetony
10. Harvardy

Interesting how it workeey for the top 5 and completely not for the 2nd fivey.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

Fair enough, but Lindenwood isn't quite as anemic as it used to be. Note that the Lions put up four goals versus each of their Hockey East opponents, and that was over 60 minutes, not 120. But yeah, the Beavers haven't quite discovered last season's defensive magic when playing teams not named UND or UMD.

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

4) Quinnipiac
5) Bemidji State
6) North Dakota
7) Clarkson
8) Princeton
9) Harvard
10) Northeastern

Re: 2015-2016 USCHO Posters Poll

1. BC - With Hockey East being so bad, they should go undefeated at least until the semi-finals
2. Wisconsin - 2 games better than the Gophers and as far as I know, not gutless and fraudulent.
3. Minnesota - Gutless and fraudulent among their many faults, ...They would make great Star Wars villains.
4. Quinnipiac - Occupying this spot for now but as things play out, this spot could become another ECAC team by seasons end.
5. Bemidji - Slightly more consistent of the three green teams in spots 5, 6, and 7. Plus they have a better nickname.
6. North Dakota - The fighting Hawks...enough said. Wins over Minn and Wis land them here
7. Clarkson - One of the two teams that have the most ceiling to move up the poll...Time to make a move.
8. Northeastern - They are Hockey East's second best team...For whatever that is worth.
9. Harvard - Reputation and talent is there. What will they DO with it?
10. Princeton - I should probably consult a preschooler because I'm really not sure who belongs here.

Colgate over Harvard even though Harvard beat them 6-2? You're probably right next year, but now?

I hadn't realized those 2 had just played. I just don't like Harvard this year and I buy Colgate toothpaste, that was the logic.
