Hey, I know you're a BC booster, but let's not get carried away. Slowe was not on the U-18 team. She is on the Assabet U19 roster for NAHA, but they are notorious for cutting 2 or 3 players off that roster when they finalize their team at the end of September, so the jury is still out there....

Not sure what your point is - yes,it's tryouts - only pointing out that players can't be assumed to be on the Assabet U19 team at this point because the Assabet tryouts continue through the end of September (and roster changes have been made as late as December in the past - I think MassHockey may have put a stop to that practice though).

As an aside but related, no other US club program that I'm aware of drags kids that far into the season before confirming their spot on the roster - others can decide if that is reasonable or not. I doubt any other US club team at NAHA this year will field a final roster different than the one they use at NAHA.

Assabet's try-out policy is crazy! You would think it would hurt them but they do continue to win (disclaimer: no MN teams are there or NAHA, referring to USA Hockey Nationals)

Other club teams in MA used to wait until the end of Sept for the "final cuts" and then scoop them up and Assabet tried to wait until the absolute last day to cut kids so they couldn't sign on with one of the other programs and would have to play on one of the Assabet minor teams. You don't see that as much anymore - the kids still get cut but the other club teams aren't holding open spots for them because there are more quality players than there used to be.

Setting all of that aside, you can't argue that they are successful and that is why kids are willing to take the risk fo getting cut too late to catch on somewhere else. In my years paying attention (10+), the Assabet U19 team has regularly and consistently beaten NAHA both at their own tournament and up at NAHA. Also historically, Minnesota doesn't have any teams that can beat Assabet consistently. Assabet ALWAYS beats SSM in any game that counts, the Thoroughbreds are a joke, Assabet pretty much always beats the MN teams at the NAHA tourney, and please don't try and tell me that a MN HS team would be competitive with Assabet - they regularly have 12+ D1 players on the roster and would kick the crap out of any Minny HS team. Assabet is basically an all-star team of the best NE prep players with a core group that has been playing together since they are 12 (or younger) and play the same system. If Minny could put together a state all star team that stays together through their high school years then you would have a game.

East...If my memory serves me correct NAHA '13, in a first round game, the MN Whitecaps beat your Assabet 19U 10+ D1 squad with a team composed of 16 girls ('97-'98's) that were thrown together for the weekend Tournament. Never had a practice, and aren't really coached at that tournament.
Drag your team out here to "Minny" & you can play Shattuck & few of our local "Summer" squads for a true assessment of how dominate Assabet is!
Lastly, A local High School team (BSM) beat Shattuck 19U two years ago when they actually were allowed to play each other....

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Commitments

Not so fast "Dust Bucket"!! I happen to live in the Minneapolis area (part time) and I remember a game in December of 2011 between Shattuck and BSM that Shattuck won 3-0. The following year they played in January of 2013 and the teams tied 4-4. A very good game - lots of back and forth action. This past season I don't believe they played! Just had to point that out....

You are correct and I was not aware of the 2013 game. 1 win falls into the exception from "pretty much always beats", so I'll stick by what I said. Assabet pretty regularly plays SSM at Nationals and beats them.

The only result on the SSM website against BSM I see is listed as a win for SSM, so I can't comment on that. If memory serves me that wasn't one of SSM's finer teams but I could be wrong or have the wrong year. Regardless, not sure it proves anything.

Lastly - Assabet in not MY team - UCONN Fan will be happy to attest to that :)

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Commitments

For what it's worth, SSM had a 4-2 record in last fall's Elite League schedule, outscoring the three MN high school "all star" teams 16-12 (2.67-2.0 avg.). After the league finished play, SSM played the MN Black team twice more in the NIT tournament, splitting with them 0-5 but coming back and winning 2-1 in the championship. In their final game of the 2013-14 season, SSM lost to Assabet 0-2 in the U19 National Championship game. The point here is that all of these teams are pretty competitive with one another. The Minnesota teams did very well especially considering they split the chosen "elite" players into three teams that don't play with one another the rest of the year (no systems to practice on, etc.) and a fair number of good athletes either don't participate or miss games because they are playing a fall sport (typically soccer) for their high school.

.... you mean like Assabet.

Now that (most) of the 95-96's have moved on to college it'll be interesting to see how Assabet 19U does this season.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Commitments

Remember NAHA, SSM & Assabet are built by recruiting. The MN Teams at the NAHA Tournament are there for exposure. Hockeyeast33, if someone in MN put together a team to win the USA Hockey u19 National Championship… ummmm Game OVER!!! And in some years the USA U18 team would lose too.
