2015-2016 Division I Commitments

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Commitments

Does that mean the new coach doesn't take the previous coach's recruits?

As noted in another reply, if the player signed a NLI then she is committed to the school and vice-versa (assuming she is a scholarship player - I don't know if that is the case here). If there is no NLI, well.........

In any case, my comment was related to the fact that the commitment appears to have been made in the last few weeks and then the coach resigned -a bummer regardless of whether the player is still committed or not.

With the incoming class consisting of all Canadians, next year's team will be down to just two players from the U.S.
I understand coaches are in the business to win. But this still sucks.

You would think their coaches would have at least one player from New York, or from someplace in New England.

maybe one of the Canadians on the board can enlighten us whether Canada still has the one in six rule, that is, for every foreign athlete on a college team, there has to be five Canadians, I think it is playing time

maybe the coach doesn't know Potsdam is in the US?

no, as ridiculous as it sounds, it's true

BTW, if you don't read Canadian newspapers, you really should. Unlike the US, they still know how to write and report rather than simply publish someone else's PR. And they have a sense of humor, not that it would do most of the people here any good.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Commitments

There are certainly several arguments that can be made in favor of limiting Canadian/foreign players. First, from an equitable standpoint, any country that has such rules should be subject to the same from US schools. Second, any schools that receive US taxpayer money could arguably limit foreign players in favor of US taxpayers. Of course, since Canada is really the 51st state, the counter argument is that it really doesn't matter :)

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Commitments

One has to ask why would you play in Canada if you are a foreigner?

I can perhaps understand why the athlete in the first article is in Canada. The education opportunities are likely greater than his home country, and given the choice between Canada and the US, and the difference in the two $$$, Canada is the cheaper choice, while still getting a good education. But Americans have lots of educational opportunities, so financially, it doesn't make sense to go north. Canadian schools don't have scholarships, and the foreign athlete pays twice the fees, as non residents.

It's funny that Canada actually finds it necessary to limit foreign athletes, as there are not likely many who can afford to play and live in Canada.

I always thought that Puerto Rico was the 51st state and Canada was, well...Canada. I guess I have been mistaken all these years.

Favourable exchange rate.

Have you been to Potsdam? It's not for everyone. I loved it. Others could not wait until January to transfer out.
