What she will have is the reality that the higher hockey and academic performers who see life beyond hockey will tend towards the Ivies or other schools I listed. So she is left fighting for the strong players who are the lower academic performers with the rest of the MN schools and some others scattered around the country.

Hey, she's got her time to do something - she's already hired. One of the fun things on this forum is predicting how it will go prior to it happening. Some of us think it will go well, others not so much. .

you Ivy people keep telling yourselves how much smarter and better you are, I guess if you say it often enough, you'll believe your own BS

we all know it's just to make yourself feel better about getting your rear end handed to you on a platter year after year

the only question I have about UMD is who will be more pleasantly surprised:
Cromwell, or whatever her name is, over the quality of the players she has inherited
or the players at what it's like to have a good coach

My daughter likely will not go Ivy because I cannot afford over $60,000 per year. If I could going to an Ivy makes a lot of sense. Honestly, you really cannot do any better to set yourself up for your future than going to one of the finest academic institutions in the country. To discount that is silly.

My daughter likely will not go Ivy because I cannot afford over $60,000 per year. If I could going to an Ivy makes a lot of sense. Honestly, you really cannot do any better to set yourself up for your future than going to one of the finest academic institutions in the country. To discount that is silly.

it looks to me like the cost at Harvard & BC is roughly the same, $65,000/year
so I'm thinking it's not cost that is keeping her out

More accurate - relentlessly combative and needlessly abrasive. I get that we all from time to time might have a heated debate but I expect if someone posted about a lovely sunrise pokey would find an insulting way to disagree.

yeah, because your comment adds so much to the conversation

it cracks me up how quite a few of you make posts saying NOTHING BUT insults (many of which have to be deleted) and combative comments
pot calling the kettle black

so what we've learned is:
a Harvard education sets you up for life
but not so much, apparently, that you are capable of being a successful assistant coach at UMD

UMD plays all 4 of last years teams that made it to the NCAA tournament, they could possibly lose 12 of their first 16 games
but last years team underperformed, I suspect this coach will get them to play up to their potential, and more importantly, play defense
they could easily steal some games against teams many expect them to lose

Of the Minnesota D1 teams, UND, and UW- UMD is the only one with a female head coach. That might help differentiate Crowell/UMD and her program.

Obviously I was just considering campuses within 5 hours and 27 minutes of MSP, thinking of the battle for those Minny kids that don't want to go too far away from home to go to school. My poor intelligence just limps along, getting beaten and battered, preferably oblivious to when it's being insulted

Do what i do, skip over Pokey's posts. They add nothing so don't read them. He only wants a fight so why give him one? He can rage into the wind all he wants but can only make headway if you give him a sail. He can post all he wants but my guess is he gets bored once he does not get the reaction he wants. If he doesn't he can leave his little t urds all over threads and we can not step in them.

That's exactly what I do. I don't read his posts anymore. I only see that he has posted and I go directly to the next person's post and I'll sometimes add onto that one especially if that person has posted a criticism of peckerchecker too. Hehehe.

Well I suppose, in a way you did.

I had occasionally read posts in this forum, mostly to find out what was going on with the team I follow, but resisted registering or posting because of the general idiocy here. But I made the fateful step of registering and making my first post before the 2013/14 season and was treated to a response from the village idiot himself, whom I promptly put on my ignore list. Problem was/is, you have to be logged in for someone to be ignored. Then I made a comment that using a mathematical model to predict the outcome of hockey games (ranking) was fruitless and all hell broke loose, you’d think I had waved a Confederate flag at a NAACP meeting and pizzed on a statue of MLK. (I didn’t realize how devoted the faithfull here are to rankings).
I think Tony/Grant’s therapist eventually told him he’d have to stop responding to my posts or risk a stroke and/or a total mental break down (as opposed to a partial, for which he has already succumbed).
So yeah, I guess you could say I am an invention of yours.

It would be fun to revisit the thread, Tony/Grant screaming, demanding, that I respond to his questions are hilarious. For a good year he could only respond by calling me a troll. Then he was dellusioal about me being a collective invention of you guys in order to cure him.

And the attempt by Eeyore to impress people with statistical knowledge in that thread is almost as funny as Eeyore’s attempt to impress with legal knowledge. Good stuff, sure beats watching TV, and makes for a nice little break from the stress and pressure at work. (and there Tony/Grant is your answer)
