2014 UNH Wildcats: Ending Strong and Starting Fresh

Re: 2014 UNH Wildcats: Ending Strong and Starting Fresh

IMHO, she seems to have done herself a grave disservice (regardless of whether she is right or wrong).
Are you kidding me HE33??
Honestly now, with all kidding or attention seeking writing on hold here...The emperor is truly naked. We're talking about a STUDENT.. Was she out of line?? Disrespectful?? Maybe...For the sake of this conversation I'll even give you that she may have stepped over a line as well... Did it get too far?? Obviously. Whose responsible for making sure it doesn't get too far?? Who is responsible for ensuring that any behavior deemed random from the guidelines set forth by the coach is followed??? The coach. The disservice here is whatever levels of frustration boiled over, it went too far and on that note, in my opinion based on what I've read, seen, and observed, he went too far. The entire situation STINKS but it happened and at the end of the day a coach is responsible for the actions of his team and him or herself... and any coach worth a **** will state that willingly, not try and put forth excuses for actions.
This is reflection on the program NOT an individual... This is a reflection on the culture that has seemingly developed. This is a RESULT of something..Was the coach frustrated and was this a bad fit for all involved?? Quite possibly... In fact I'll even go a bit further and say maybe the player just didn't fit well with the culture that was established... Fine...HANDLE IT PROFESSIONALLY...Handle it appropriately...don't manhandle it and look for reasons why it should be deemed appropriate.

I think I'd rather watch UNH at this point than my TiVo'd Olympic hockey game. :(

Re: 2014 UNH Wildcats: Ending Strong and Starting Fresh

Bump part trois ;)

The last couple of weeks have been rough on the 'Cats, as the outcomes of the games are not what any of us hoped for. Looking past that, this team has battled a short bench, a mid-season coaching change, and numerous injuries, yet has still managed to come out fighting every game. One of the reasons for this is the solid leadership of our 2013 - 2014 Senior Class.

Sunday at 2pm marks the last game at the Whitt for this class, and the last regular season contest. To celebrate the class of 2014, there will be a ceremony on the ice prior to the game, so plan on getting to the Whitt early to honor three special Wildcats. After the game, join us at the Alumni Center for a reception to continue the Senior Day celebration. If you would like to bring a dish to share, please do. If you have questions about how or what to bring, please contact me at this email, and I'll help you out!

Nicole Gifford
Giff has worn a letter on her sweater for three of her four years, and has grown as both a player and a leader during her time at UNH. Voted Best Defensive Forward beginning her Rookie Season, Nicole has taken her game further, and at the time of this writing, leads the Wildcats in points (21) and goals, (11). She has scored in three of the last four games, and has reduced her penaly minutes from a season high of 26 as a sophomore to just 12 this year, while logging many minutes on both special teams in addition to her regular shift. She also ranks 10th overall among Hockey East players and 9th in Hockey East only in face off wins.
In this, her Senior year, as sole Captain, Nicole Gifford has had to deal with many obstacles both on and off the ice, and has done so with strength and dignity, traits that not only enabled her to face the challenges of this year, but serve as an example to those who follow in her footsteps, and will lead her to success as she steps into her future.

Arielle O'Neill
Arielle exploded onto Lake Whitt in her Rookie season, finishing as the second highest scorer on the team, and the highest among her classmates, but what set her apart from all is her ability in the faceoff circle. This year, O'Neill sits atop the list in Hockey East, having the highest winning percentage both over all, and within the Hockey East schedule. With the shortage in the ranks, Arielle was asked to make the change from forward to defense, and did so naturally. Some might argue that playing from the back with her vision and experience made her even a greater offensive threat. as she led all defensemen in goals before being moved back to the forward line a few games ago. Her career numbers of 28 goals and 25 assists speak to her ability to set up a play as well as finish.

Jessica Hitchcock
By the grace of the hockey gods in Niagara came Jess Hitchcock, and in the two years we were fortunate enough to have her in blue and white, she certainly made a name for herself. Currently one point behind leader Nicole Gifford in points, Hitchcock leads the team in helpers, with 13. She is also on the top of the career points list with 73, and shots on net, with 120,and the leader in plus/minus. Two years in Durham were not enough for Wildcat fans, but we are grateful that she chose to finish her career at UNH!

I wrote that I am of the opinion that the player's decision to pursue criminal charges does disservice to herself because it is more likely to harm her than the coach. That's it. I can honestly say that I have absolutely no idea what your point is or if it has anything to do with my post (even the one line you decided to extract out of context).

like I stated earlier...Hawkieguy is an idiot...a moron...and a maroon.....

Re: 2014 UNH Wildcats: Ending Strong and Starting Fresh

Czarry my strong suggestion is to stop calling names and getting defensive..try, and I do mean TRY, coming forth with substance. Now I know that is a new concept for you... It's obvious that you have little to put forth but try to stop being a complete waste of time for all out here.. What's the matter?? Never played in a game that meant anything?? Are you still up in the stands with your big #1 finger having multiple conversations with yourself?? I have no problem debating with you but at least do so with some self respect.

Re: 2014 UNH Wildcats: Ending Strong and Starting Fresh

It's not about harm.. it's about having the right to defend yourself according to the law... The disservice was done by an employee of the college towards a student athlete. That is inexcusable.

I'm new to this board and although I joined to read, I felt compelled to respond to this particularly uneducated thread. Where do I begin:
I'm getting the sense that somehow you are VERY close to this situation. 21 posts all on this subject.

Re: 2014 UNH Wildcats: Ending Strong and Starting Fresh

Heading into the final weekend, UNH could finish anywhere from 5th to 8th. Is there an opponent from the top half that fans see as being a better matchup stylistically?

I'd rather watch the game over ten more times than read another hawkieguy post. Even if he learned to quote, so that which is being quoted doesn't string right into the response, and even if he could construct a cohesive, intelligent sentence, and even if whatever point he is trying to make was comprehensible. All I get is that he is trying to insult anyone who has a differing opinion. :(

Did you get someone to write this for you? There are actually complete sentences. That said, you are just about to become the only person I have ever blocked.

Senior weekend always adds a twist, whether it is the emotion of being the home team on senior day, or the tedious part of being a visiting team and having to stand through the host's presentations. Despite that, I don't see the standings changing given the game pairings.

Maine and Connecticut play two in Storrs, and that may well be the series that is the most impactful. Both teams have surged in the second half, and should Maine sweep and Providence and UNH fail to get points, then UConn and Maine are tied for fifth, and they tied the first game, but UConn would win the tie breaker on HE wins.

I don't see UNH sweeping Northeastern this weekend, which is the only way we can make any appreciable standings change, and that's if Maine sweeps on the road, so we will almost certainly play either BC or BU. Personally, I think we play better against those two teams than we do against Vermont or Northeastern, so I would feel as confident either way.

Re: 2014 UNH Wildcats: Ending Strong and Starting Fresh

Ditto DC's thoughts....it's either BC or BU for us with either game stealable....I do believe that the team has been skating under mucho duress....I really hope that they still find solace at the rink, and on the ice! For everyone who has posted their thoughts here over the past 3 months, come out to Lake Whitt on Sunday and show your Wildcat pride! Yes, I'm ambivalent towards my UNH right now, but as for my dedication and belief in the Ladies and how they have persevered throught this crappy year, they deserve our respect! So if you like to vocalize, come do it so it makes a positive statement....honour Nicole, Arielle and Jessie and send the team off into the playoffs on a high note!!!
