2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

This doesn't come from hating either the Kings or the Hawks, but if Montreal made I wouldn't really have much interest either way. I don't dislike the Canadiens, but it would have been a wash if they got there. The Rangers are the only NYC team I cheer for. They are my father's favorite team, because the North Stars didn't exist when he was growing up. Spent many nights of my childhood watching Rangers games with my dad.
Perhaps your Dad was also a St. Paul Rangers fan? If I've got my hockey history straight, they were the NYR's farm club before the '67 expansion.

Either way, congrats to your Dad on last night's win.

Don't care who wins, just hoping for seven games worth of the first OT of game five of Hawks-Kings. I heard that it took only 26 minutes of clock time. The players must have been sucking wind and wondering where the TV timeouts were when you need them.

I was actually wondering what the actual clock time of that OT period was... So few whistles...

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Anyone have any suggestions on trying to acquire tickets for the three games that will be at Madison Sqaure Garden that isn't stubhub? They are already listed at $1600 per ticket right now.

I'm going to be down in NYC the weekend of June 13-15 and would stay an extra day on Monday to go to Game 6 if I could get a ticket for a semi-reasonable amount of money. Or is that just a pipe dream to even think that's possible?

A game 6 against the western champ?

Yes... a pipe dream. :p

Hey, Rene Bourque. Is Henrik Lundqvist elite?
He didn't say Lundqvist isn't elite, he said Lundqvist hadn't been any better than Tokarski over the course of the series, and honestly I can't really say he's wrong. Tokarski was great to keep the Habs in the game last night.

I thought the NYR #1 farm club was Providence (Reds).

So would you rather have the Blackhawks lose to the Kings and then have the Kings beat by the Rangers or would you rather the Blackhawks just get beat out right by the Rangers? :)

If the Kings eliminate the Hawks, I will likely pull for the Rangers coz they're the underdogs and the better story etc...

To be honest though, I lose a lot of interest each season once my team is eliminated unless a team I hate is in the Finals like the Canucks a few years back.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

According to The 538, no matter which team the Rangers face in the Finals, it will be the toughest team they will have faced all playoffs, and the Rangers will be an underdog either way.

I think Chicago - New York is a more natural rivalry (where do you think the nickname "The Second City" came from?). I heard someone talking about a map of the US that showed concentration of fans for each NHL playoff team this year, and there was a footnote that said neither the Ducks nor the Kings had enough fans to appear anywhere on the map.

That being said, I'd have to want to see the Rangers beat the Kings if the Hawks can't pull it out, just because I think it is ridiculous for teams from southern California, Texas, or Florida to have professional hockey teams in the first place. It is the reverse of cheering for the Jamaican bobsled team if you know what I mean....one "requirement" to have a hockey team, for me, is that you actually have below-freezing weather during the winter!

What a ridiculous statement...

I wouldn't hold my breath. The bandwagon is pretty strong here with the Knicks and Mets cruddy as usual, the Nets already out of the playoffs, and the Yankees mediocre.

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

The nickname "The Second City" was appointed by Chicago itself, as a nod to the great Chicago fire. It has nothing to do with New York. But, good luck convincing a New Yorker of that.

The Rangers split the pair they played against the Kings this year (with the win coming during the stretch early in the year when the Rangers were getting steamrolled by everyone before they figured out AV's system, and the loss a 1-0 shutout by a goalie who's no longer with the Kings, in which the Rangers outshot the Kings). They beat the Hawks both times they played during the regular season. I agree that they're underdogs nonetheless, but I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility that it will be a competitive series.

My heart tells me you shouldn't have hockey games in buildings where there are cheerleaders. Fortunately, my heart is not the only organ that has a say in such matters.

Now. Back in the day Rochester was Bruins AHL team.

Back in the day the Reds were the Rangers farm team while Hershey and Oklahoma City in the Central league were the Bruins top farm team.In the early 70's the Bruins had the Boston Braves for a few years until mthey folded and used the Rochester Amerks. The team in Providence now is called the Bruins and has been since they started in 92.
