2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

Once a player leaves college, I let those rivalries go.

If anything, Toews (and Belfour before him) makes me more tolerant of the Sioux.

I also let allegiances go. I don't pull for a team simply because a former Badger or two skates for them.

Don't pull for Canada when Toews is playing for them either.

A short Summer and half the team playing through the Olympics are really showing now... You can't deny that... It sucks
This, and there's more. For all intents and purposes, the Hawks led the NHL wire-to-wire last year. Even in a strike shortened year, sprinting through an entire NHL season is a monumental feat. IMHO the particular accomplishments of 2013 have had a negative impact on the energy available to the 2014 Hawks. Even professional athletes have human limitations.

If I'm watching two teams I don't have a strong feeling about, I always root for the team with the former Terrier. But if the team is a rival, then that rule goes out the window. As far as my team, I tolerate former Eagles. (Nice goal last night Ben.)

Heart of a champion last night. And props to Coach Q on the Kane-Shaw-Saad line. They were absolute BEASTS last night.

Agree with the general thrust of this. I wouldn't add or drop an NHL team based on where a couple of guys went to school. But it needs to be pointed out that there's a world of difference between lending a cheer to a worthy team and claiming bragging rights.

If you're just lending a cheer, players' resumes can be a factor. Or not. Viewer's choice.

On the other hand, to legitimately claim bragging rights, that means you're in for the long haul. Even if you personally would have chosen a slightly different roster, that kind of commitment shouldn't waiver.

Precisely what constitutes a "real fan" with legitimate bragging rights is a complicated question. This has come up a couple of different ways this spring; a detailed look might make for a good off-season topic.

Don't pull for Canada when Toews is playing for them either.
We've had Buckeyes represent other countries in international competition, particularly on the Women's side. That doesn't change my support for Team USA. But it does change the flavor of the viewing, if only a little. If I've spent 4 years solidly supporting players like Natalie Spooner (Canada) and Emma Laaksonen (Finland), I want them to play honorably and play well, whatever the current sweater. And I do notice when that's the case.

With all the anthem talk, how has nobody posted this yet?

Your welcome! :)

Regarding the other anthem clips: That 1991 Anthem at the All Star game was a national sensation. #ChicagoPride. What a poser that Toronto dude is. Embellish much?

It kills me when some Blackhawk "fans" come to the Chicago Wolves games and after seeing Wayne Messmer sing the anthem say "Oh, they got the Cubs guy to sing the anthem? Way to copy the Blackhawks."

If they're wearing pink hats, I know their port of origin.

Embellish? ******off. For every Wayne Messmer or Whitney Houston who have sung the Star Spangled Banner to perfection, there are a dozen Steven Tylers and Christina Aguileras who have butchered a beautiful anthem!

Not even going to go to Carl Lewis and Roseanne Barr.

For what it's worth, this Canadian gets as emotional for the US anthem as I do for Oh Canada..... except during the Olympics. ;)

For the sake of discussion...

As of this post there are still four teams remaining in the playoffs. Pick one player from each of the four teams you would name as that team's leading candidate thus far for the Conn Smythe Trophy.

Rangers playing with fire. Crappy PP, then almost give up a goal.

So my bad feeling about this may be right. Better win tonight because they ain't winning in Montreal.

EDIT: I need to be negative more often.
