Leafs extend Carlyle

I find this rather odd. Seems to me, regardless of whether the Leafs' problems could be pinned to Carlyle or not, Shanny would want to start with a clean slate. Are they saying he's OK, but the assistants sucked? The fact that the GM, not Shanahan, made the announcement implies to me that his (the GM's) job is safe also, which I also find odd. Seems to me this team needs some shaking up. But I don't them closely. Curious what Leafs fans have to say.

Not really. I don't talk about the UM pre-NCAA hockey stuff nor about UM FB titles from the 40's. But I understand douchey is a typical Whioux trait.

I'm surprised. I recall a tweet during the latter stages of the meltdown that basically said Carlyle hadn't forgotten how to coach. Farrish has been his long-time sidekick going back to their Leafs playing days and the Cup winning Ducks team. Cronin & Gordon were Burke hires, so no surprise they're gone.

As Mike Zeisberger wrote in the Toronto Sun:

In bringing in new assistant coaches, what is needed is a variety of personalities who can try to reach the players in different ways than Carlyle’s often-gruff delivery. Moreover, an influx of ideas that range outside the box is key, such as being more open-minded toward analytics.

In addition, an assistant coach who can fix the ailing penalty kill is paramount. The Leafs’ penalty killing plopped from second in 2013 to 28th last season.

I know that this is a couple of days late but if game 3 were a regular season game, would soup can (Subban) have gotten s delay of gamer penalty? Thoughts?
