2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin in Border Battle Semifinal

Re: 2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin in Border Battle Semifinal

One additional thought. It would never occur to me to call the Bemidji women's team the Beaverettes. Minnesota Duluth the Bulldogettes. St. Cloud the Huskyettes. Minnesota State the Maverickettes...because I would think that chauvinistic, demeaning and fairly offensive. That's just me I suppose.

Nope, not just you. Though I would say the use of the term rodentettes in this case is meant to be a sort of deliberate trash talking rather than patronizing women.

Equally, I can't stand it when the terms "too many players/women" for TMM penalties, or "odd player/woman" rushes are used.

Including layovers, it's about a 36-hour trip. Getting to New Haven on Thursday night.

Wow, that's a loooong trip. But the good news I suppose is that the 'cost per hour' is very reasonable! ;)

Re: 2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin in Border Battle Semifinal

The quality possessed by Wisconsin that concerns me is the proficiency for burying rebounds / garbage after initial saves are made. More so than pure sniping. Gophers have to keep the house clean in that respect.

And in the games I saw (in Madison), Leveille gave up a lot of rebounds. The Badgers weren't able to take advantage in that series, but I'd agree that this could be a factor and I'd imagine will be something UW focuses on in prep.

I will say that the Friday game in Madison is certainly the best I've felt about UW's chances. The Badgers were in that game from start to finish and that game is part of what gives me hope for this semi-final. It lets me know that UW isn't totally overmatched and can play with this Minny team.

Re: 2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin in Border Battle Semifinal

Which of those six teams is playing this week.

LOL

Although the Badgers do concern me, they are a very good team and beating them a 5th time will be tough, it is the battle of the bands that really concerns me, I cannot bear to see our band beaten twice in a row.

UW bands will be spread pretty thin - women's Frozen Four, men's hockey Big Ten Tourney, and NCAA mens basketball. Gopher bands only have to cover two of those three. :-)

:)

I will forward that to my friends who actually care about hoops

Well, Timmy is pretty offensive, so I'm not surprised by it.

Geez, I never thought I would be considered the "Dirty" of the women's board, though the posters on this side of the tracks are more touchy, so I do feel a little like Dirty every once and awhile. Or maybe your taking a shot at my sig? That's ok, whatever turns your crank.

I honestly didn't come up with the term rodentettes to be sexist or anything. Earlier in another thread I was talking about the male and female rodent teams, so I had to differentiate between the sexes. It's a lot less typing just calling them the rodents, which is ok by me.

In the true spirit of Dirty.......Badgers sweep.

I've read that Joe Senser's Roseville and Bloomington locations will be hosting a viewing party for the semifinal on Friday.

Could be fun for those not traveling to Hamden.

Do they understand that it is internet only, i.e., not televised, and they are providing WebTV in some fashion? Or do we all bring our laptops/tablets/phones and sit and stare at our personal screens? :p

I assume they have the capability to stream to their TV screens. I'd want to know before I traveled to either location. Probably require a phone call.

With the possibility the first 4-5 staffers you talk to are going to say...huh?

Re: 2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin in Border Battle Semifinal

Really really poor that this is not televised. Not even the championship. Just crazy. With all the crap on 150 channels 24 hours a day.

Totally agree. Pathetic, actually.

According to the GWH Facebook page, they will have the stream shown on tvs at both locations.

Any chance any place around Madison is doing the same thing? Based on the confused/annoyed looks I get whenever I ask for a hockey game to be put on a bar tv anywhere in Wisconsin, I'd be a bit shocked that anyone would do the work to actually put up a webstream of a womens game, but it could be fun. I'd even offer to lend my Chromecast to make it happen!

Might have to go there. I spend a lot of ime at Joe Sensers in Roseville watching Gophers/Wild Hockey Championships as I have no cable.
by the end of some seasons I have spent enough on food to afford cable.

Agreed 1000%, especially coming off women's hockey being a huge story in the Olympics and men's college hockey all over CBS, Fox and NBC Sports all year. Even the freaking world university games (hockey) are on tv for cripes sake. I am shocked the NCAA doesn't have it's own channel yet for the "fringe" sports. Too bad the BTN couldn't/can't pick the game (s) up either.

Re: 2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin in Border Battle Semifinal

Do you guys know who is streaming the games? Which site? Amazing how the NCAA disregards most of its sports if they don't make much revenue....how did softball become so popular, and hence the coverage....

I thought Brooky was just pulling your chain ... maybe not. Really, if you are thin skinned you should probably not attend a Gopher - Badger game.

I thought the term was pretty lame, ... now Fighting Suzies ... that's a great name, surely you can come up with something better if you put your mind to it :)

I think one thing safe to say, which ever side loses, the losing side won't be saying how close the game was and how they won the battle of the bands. When you lose a Badger/Gopher contest ... you lose!

BTW, I hear Amy Sensor will be a designated driver if you are looking for a ride home from Sensor's Bar & Grill.

Wouldn't surprise me if BTN would pick it up if one of their schools made it. Maybe MI will mysteriously put it on the agenda when Red retires.

Re: 2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Minnesota vs. Wisconsin in Border Battle Semifinal

The good old days...when the semifinals and final were in fact broadcast on the tube. Later no semifinals...just the final...then nothing. Progress eh?

Seem to recall Minnesota vs. UNH...Minnesota vs. Brown on the tele even prior to NCAA.
