Aw man not cool!

I have to say I'm definitely a fan of the Rouser

HA! I remember a few years back at some NCAA event a marginally angry ad from BU about BU. The whole ad was about how it was BOSTON UNIVERSITY, NOT BU.

so when are you ladies going to discuss which of the uniforms is prettiest?

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

Hockey This Week Magazine's Tim Rappleye caught up with the Ramseys for an in-depth article discussing Rachel's hockey upbringing and future ambitions.

http://hockeythisweek.com/mike-and-rachel-ramsey-gold-on-hold/

The most amazing thing in the article is how her father Mike progressed so quickly after first arriving at the U: "JV for the Gophers in the fall of ’78; Wins NCAA title over North Dakota in March of ’79; Gets drafted higher than any other American at the time–11th overall–by the Sabres in June; youngest player to make USA Olympic team and wins Gold as a teenager in February ’80; Embarks on a 30-year NHL playing/coaching Odyssey later that month."

Also, this ringing endorsement from Rachel Ramsey could be used by the Gopher coaches as a recruiting tool:

“Oh, it’s absolutely incredible. For me being in the WCHA, in my home state, with the staff and the trainers and everything, it’s been absolutely incredible. Being in Minnesota we are very, very fortunate with what we get. In the four years you feel like you are a pro. It’s pretty cool.”

I'm worn out. Twelve goals is 108 god****ed letters plus before and after periods. My voice needs a nice 2-0 game tomorrow.

We were sitting next to a Huskie players family so we sort of quit spelling after 81. Not only saving my voice but maybe their feelings a little. BAd enough having a daughter going to SCSU they should have to suffer more than that.

After that drubbing it will be interesting to see how both teams come out today. Certainly the Gophers were firing on all cylinders last night. Their passing was very quick and sharp and they were making lots of heads-up plays all over the ice. And perhaps what bodes well for the future is that they were finding lots of different ways to get the puck in the net, in contrast to previous recent games when they were having all sorts of difficulties converting even the best opportunities...in particular #7 who had been totally snake bitten as of late. But overall, it's hard to tell - for me at least - how much of last night's lopsided result was due to the Gophers playing so well vs. the Huskies playing so poorly. Even though they didn't score they competed so much better in last Sunday's game, which from a (neutral) fan's perspective was a much more entertaining game to watch. I think today will depend on what happens early: the longer the Huskies can keep the Gophers off the board the more their confidence will grow which would make it a tougher game for the Gophers.

Also, not to be overlooked when your offense scores 12 times is the shutout Sidney Peters posted while making 18 saves: congrats to her!

I thought #7 turned a corner with her season during the series in Columbus. The points have come steadily since then, even if the goals haven't always done so. Part of that is she and Lorence were put on Pannek's wings, and Kelly's game has really started to click. If they get enough chances, some will go. I don't know that last night was groundbreaking in regards to Bona scoring. Her first goal was a bit of a bounce, and the second was classic Hannah Brandt putting the puck on a tee for someone else. The key is that Bona doesn't try to do too much herself or get too locked into always trying to get the puck to Lorence. The current line with 19 and 20 is coming along nicely in that regard.

I was very encouraged by the energy that Haley brought to last night's game. She seemed freed up to just go play, more so than at D, and it was a good fit. Hopefully, she continues to get the opportunity to get onto the ice and makes the most of it.

Make it rain Teddies!

I didn't see the game in Columbus. But my thought was that anytime one of your best forwards increases her goal production by 50% 18 games into the season it would indicate a break-through type of game no matter how the goals were scored. She was certainly way overdue for some good luck for a change because she's just missed on so many great chances in the games I've seen, which is to say most of them. Just looking at her individual stats, she currently has the 3rd highest number of shots on the team (83) but the lowest goals-to-shots percentage of any of the top three line forwards (.082). Before last night it would have been 4/76, or .053, so last night boosted her conversion percentage by 55% which again at this stage of the season with those high numbers is pretty remarkable when you think about it. ANYWAY, whether the Ohio State or last night's game proves to be the more pivotal, all Gopher fans can only hope her recent success continues in the second half! She's got individual skill up the wazoo so you knew it was just a matter of time.

You're right. :)

I agree Mister Walker. It was nice to see Nina rewarded for all her hard work this year and Paige, too. 17 to 0 combined for my two favorite teams last night!

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!

The Gophers started the season with 4D, 4 D/F and 10 F

For most of the first half most games were played by mostly 9 F and 5 D. Most often a 6th saw duty as D and sometimes the rest got shuffled out there as forwards for a 4th line.

Now they have one of the F on crutches and another not dressed for this weekend. Down to 16 skaters tonight they went ahead and acknowledged the 5 D are the ones that are actually going to get the ice time as D and designated everyone else as a F.

11 F and 5 D.

It will be interesting to see as the season moves forward how well the Gophers cope with this shortened bench.

As for tonight, almost from the opening face off but clearly from 2-0 it was a fairly low intensity exercise for both sides. Saint Cloud never ever seemed like they believed they had a whisper of a chance and the Gophers never gave them even that much.

I disagree with this. They've gone with 6 defensemen for almost the whole season. At first it was Ramsey/McMillen/Stecklein/Baldwin/Cline/Garzone, in roughly descending order of ice time but they all got regular shifts. Garzone struggled and was replaced with Wolfe, who has also gotten plenty of time.

As for today, according to Joel Johnson, putting Cline up front today was a temporary thing just to keep people fresh and she'll be back on defense when they return from break. Given that I think she's looked very good back there, I consider that to be a positive.
