Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota Women's Hockey: The Maroon & Gold Strike Back!
Interesting stats, thanks for posting KTDC. This year's team, despite not being as "dominating" as the past few years, perception-wise at least, does have a higher number of average shots per game and also a higher differential in shots per game than the teams enjoyed during the streak. And yet the average number of goals scored and the percentage of shots resulting in goals are each running behind those posted during the past three seasons. Or, in other words, they are not as efficient thus far in converting their opportunities as we've become used to seeing (as yes, there is no doubt that we as a fan base have become very spoiled over the past few years!). Part of it I think you can attribute to some bad puck-luck, with this past weekend being a prime example...SO many near-misses with pucks just sailing wide of open nets, hitting pipes, rebounds coming back but going between where our players are stationed in front, etc. But over the course of a season the stats do tell a story, and there are some things the Gophers can do better to improve their scoring efficiency over the second half. Hopefully we'll start to see some of that as early as this coming weekend when St. Cloud State comes to town.
