2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Boston?

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Bosto

Wonder how many times in the past 20 years there's been more than one first time #1 over the course of a season? Congrats to Mankato.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Bosto

I smiled all day on Monday. Now the Mavs need to keep building! NCAA wins not win.

Go to Ferris, keep the streak alive and get a minimum of 3 points!

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Bosto

The Mavs picked up a couple more wins against Ferris State. Although, I'm a little more concerned/nervous for the coming weekend - north star college cup. Even though UMD, Gophers and Bemidji has been pretty 'average' lately.

You're nervous? I'm concerned about (potentially) playing you guys again!

You have to forgive us. Being on top is not something we're used to yet.

I was explaining to my wife the possible ramifications if we lose Friday and Saturday. After a couple minutes of patiently listening, she said, "But we could win both, too." And all I could say was, "Well, yeah. But when you cheer for MSU-M and the pro sports teams in Minnesota, you're not conditioned to thinking that way."

Sad, but true!
Hopefully this will be the year of the turning point where we can really gain some confidence, win both games at xcel and go far in the NCAA tourney.
For some reason, I feel like we are really bad on neutral ice games (xcel and NCAA) - although, @xcel vs gophers is still pretty much a home game for the gophers.

Certainly the X record hasn't been good, and the 0-for-NCAA record speaks for itself, but at least with this team, there is experience in these types of games. The 2 wins in Grand Rapids last year are also something to build on.

I thought Purple Cow fans might get a kick out of this.

I attended the Omaha Lancer/Muskegon Lumberjacks USHL game here in Omaha last Friday night at Ralston Arena.

UNO was playing on the road playing, late, at CC, and it was good chance to get a look at Omaha Lancer & UNO recruit Steve Spinner of Eden Prairie (as well as an eyeful of Omaha Lancer & North Dakota recruit Shane Gersich of Chaska).

Mrs. Red Cows and I sat on the opposite side of the arena from where we normally sit in this facility. In fact, we've never sat on this side of the rink before. The Lancers have won so much hardware since the '89-'90 season and beyond that there isn't a flat surface large enough in the entire facility for all their championship banners. So, they have them hung down the center of the rink from the roof, back to back, the length of the ice on each side. So, whatever side of the rink you are on are the banners you see.

Up there, on one end, is a banner (that I took a picture of) that reads:

Mike Hastings

Regular season

529-210-56

Playoffs

75-55

Something to think about, maybe, as the post season draws nearer for you guys?

Crazy. Every time I get to talk with Coach, he's a first class kind of guy. Just someone you love listening to because it's so obvious how high his character is.

As we sit here at #1 towards the latter half of January, what are everyone's expectations?

Expect:
1. The McNaughton - I think we have a slightly tougher schedule than BGSU and Tech, but you have to like how focused the boys have been
2. An NCAA bid
3. An NCAA win

Hope for:
1. Another Broadmoor
2. Multiple NCAA wins

I suppose I define "expectations" as things that will disappoint me if they don't happen. The "hope fors" are gravy.

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Bosto

Congratulations on being Ranked #1 for 2 weeks in a row now? That is great for then WCHA until the Mavs leave it!

I have only seen Hastings in action about 4 Times. 2 at MSU and 2 at Tech. He always seems to be in control and never gets to high or low. And his guys work their tails off for him. What is the secret?

Re: 2014-2015 Minnesota State University, Mankato Season Thread: Shipping up to Bosto

I seem to remember something Darth Vader once said.

Hmmmmmm.... now, just what was that? Was it.........? Oh, yeah.

"Impressive"

I had a buddy of mine over to watch this game because he doesn't have Directv and I do. And, for the first 4 years I held UNO season tickets, it was he and I that had them together (pre-Mrs. Red Cows.)

We've been to a ton of Omaha Lancers game together, too, particularly pre-UNO hockey.

All during the game tonight we talked about how that game looked like vintage Mike Hastings. Omaha Lancers fans have been to this rodeo many times before. Ralston Arena (the Lancers new home the past two seasons) should have been called Hastings Arena.
